Filter by:Chronic health conditions affect most older adults. Preventative medicine and risk management strategies, especially when applied earlier in life, are essential to altering the trajectory of a disease and ultimately improving health outcomes. Primary care providers (PCP) often provide most of these services, though younger adults are the least likely to receive primary care. This project leverages a period of high engagement and health activation during an individual's life (pregnancy) to nudge her toward use of primary care after the pregnancy episode. This randomized controlled trial will test the hypothesis that a behavioral science-informed intervention, incorporating defaults and salience, can increase the rates of PCP follow-up within 4 months following a delivery for individual with hypertension, diabetes, obesity. If successful, this intervention could serve as a scalable solution to increase primary care use and preventative health services in a population that currently has low rates of engagement and utilization of these services.
The purpose of this study is to assess which antidepressants work the best in older adults who have treatment-resistant depression (TRD), and to test whether treatment-resistant late life depression is associated with declines in memory and attention and brain structure and function.
Public safety personnel (PSP; e.g., border services personnel, correctional workers, firefighters, paramedics, police, public safety communicators) are frequently exposed to potentially psychologically traumatic events. Such events contribute to substantial and growing challenges from posttraumatic stress injuries (PTSIs), including but not limited to posttraumatic stress disorder. The PSP PTSI Study has been designed to evaluate an evidence-informed, proactive system of mental health assessment and training among Royal Canadian Mounted Police (www.rcmpstudy.ca) for delivery among diverse PSP (i.e., firefighters, municipal police, paramedics, public safety communicators). The training is based on the Unified Protocol for the Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders, adapted for PSP, and named Emotional Resilience Skills Training (ERST). The subsequent PSP PTSI Study results are expected to benefit the mental health of all participants and, ultimately, all PSP.
Investigators are evaluating a Technology Enabled Service (TES) to support the treatment of depression in the context of a collaborative care service in obstetrics clinics.
This study is a secondary data analysis of three of largest Randomised Controlled Trials (RCTs) of behavioural activation (BA) for older people with depression in the United Kingdom (UK) primary care. The analysis will aim to explore the impact of pain on depression outcomes of older people receiving BA and potentially identify sub-groups of people who may not respond as well to treatment.

The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effects of a game-based digital-therapeutics (DTx) medical software device on the symptoms of depression in adults with confirmed major depressive disorder.
As many as 1 in 3 women in Nepal suffer from perinatal depression however, they often go unidentified and untreated. Lack of knowledge limited trained human resources, and unavailability of specific maternal mental health services are some of the major barriers impeding help-seeking. To mitigate this gap, the World Health Organization recommended Thinking Healthy Programme (THP), a psychological intervention that can be delivered by non-specialists and has been proven effective for perinatal depression in a resource constrained context. The THP has already been translated and adapted to Nepali context. In this study, the investigators plan to pilot test the intervention and assess its feasibility, acceptability, appropriateness, and preliminary effectiveness when delivered by the Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs). The FCHVs are cadre of Nepal Government mobilized for the prevention and promotion of maternal and child health in the community level.
The main purpose of this study is to investigate the two different intermittent Theta Burst (iTBS) repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), its effectiveness in alleviating depressive symptoms. All patients are randomized to two different iTBS groups.
This is a single group study of a novel internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy program for older adults with elevated depressive symptoms. This study will enroll approximately 300 older adults throughout the state of Michigan to test the effectiveness of Empower@Home with older adults. The intervention will take approximately 10 weeks to complete. Participants will have lower levels of depression after completing the intervention than before enrollment. Participants will be able to use the internet-based platform with minimal support.
