There are about 3576 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in South Africa. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
The purpose of this trial is to determine if intravenous administration of the metal ion trapping agent DP-b99 up to 9 hours following acute ischemic stroke onset, and then for 3 additional days (4 consecutive days in total) is effective in improving long term outcome. Patients will be followed up for 3 months after the stroke.
This study assessed the initial efficacy and safety of canakinumab over a 4 week period in patients with systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (SJIA) having a flare. Response to treatment will be according to the adapted American College of Rheumatology(ACR)Pediatric 30 criteria at Day 15.
This study will answer two separate questions. The first question is to test the cardiovascular effects of long-term treatment with rosiglitazone or pioglitazone when used as part of standard of care compared to similar standard of care without rosiglitazone or pioglitazone in patients with type 2 diabetes who have a history of or are at risk for cardiovascular disease. The second question will compare the effects of long-term supplementation of vitamin D on death and cancer
The purpose of this study is to monitor the performance and determine the metal ion release of the DePuy ASR™ System in the treatment of patients with hip joint disease requiring hip resurfacing surgery. Patients who enter the study will be evaluated at regular intervals following hip surgery using patient, clinical and x-ray assessments. A subset of patients will also have blood samples taken at regular intervals to allow the metal ion levels to be determined and undergo scans to allow the bone mineral density of the bone surrounding the implant to be monitored. DePuy decided to close this Study in 4Q 2009. The Study was terminated with effect from November 2010 to allow for the completion of the 5 year follow up assessments. Please note that subsequent to this decision DePuy voluntarily recalled the ASR products on 24 August 2010. Additional information regarding this voluntary recall and the follow-up of patients affected by the recall can be found at the following links http://www.mhra.gov.uk/Publications/Safetywarnings/MedicalDeviceAlerts/CON079157 and http://www.depuy.com/countries_list.
This is a study in patients with chemotherapy induced anemia receiving multi-cycle chemotherapy for the treatment of stage IV non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The primary objective of the study is to demonstrate that overall survival (OS) is not worse in participants on darbepoetin alfa treated to a hemoglobin ceiling of 12.0 g/dL compared to participants treated with placebo.
The purpose of the study is to determine whether desmoteplase is effective and safe in the treatment of patients with acute ischaemic stroke when given within 3 to 9 hours from onset of stroke symptoms.
The purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy of CT-322 comparative to bevacizumab, both in combination with carboplatin and paclitaxel in the treatment of chemonaive subjects with recurrent or advanced non-squamous NSCLC
This is a multicenter, randomized, efficacy and safety trial to evaluate Mycograb®. Subjects will be randomized to one of the 3 arms: 1/ Amphotericin B (0.7 mg/kg/d) plus 5-flucytosine (100 mg /kg/d); 2/ Amphotericin B plus Mycograb® (dosed 1 mg/kg via a central line or peripheral venous line twice daily for 7 consecutive days); 3/ Amphotericin B plus 5-flucytosine plus Mycograb® (dosed 1 mg/kg via a central line or peripheral venous line twice daily for 7 consecutive days). After 2 weeks, all patients will be switched to fluconazole at 400 mg/d for 8 weeks and 200 mg/d thereafter. The total duration of the study will be approximately 24 months
Magnesium iron hydroxycarbonate is a phosphate binder that absorbs phosphate from food, reducing the amount that the body can absorb. The purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy of magnesium iron hydroxycarbonate in subjects requiring haemodialysis, compared with a marketed phosphate binder, sevelamer hydrochloride.
