Filter by:Dual diagnosis refers to patients with both severe mental illness and substance abuse. Dual diagnosis is therefore a challenging condition to treat, and the group typically represents the most vulnerable individuals in society. Historically, research on dual diagnosis has been underprioritized, and thus, we still do not know enough about how to best assist this vulnerable group. However, new studies indicate that virtual reality programs can reduce anxiety in patients with psychotic disorders. They achieve this by providing access to a virtual therapist and lifelike environments where patients can challenge their thoughts about the dangers of navigating the world. For both psychotic disorders and substance abuse, we know that anxiety often plays a role in the clinical picture. Therefore, anxiety almost always has an impact on dual diagnosis patients, where it is crucial in maintaining substance abuse and functional impairment. Despite this, anxiety is rarely a focus in existing treatment options, as it is too resource-intensive in addition to an already intensive treatment process. This study investigates whether the resource barrier can be overcome and whether hospitalized dual diagnosis patients can experience reduced anxiety, fewer relapses, and better outcomes after discharge when their anxiety is treated through partially automated virtual reality therapy.
This research will be conducted to determine the effect of stress ball intervention during NST on anxiety and fetal well-being in high-risk pregnant women. Women with high-risk pregnancies randomly assigned to intervention (n=43) and control (n=43) groups at a state and a faculty hospital in Turkey will be included in the study. Pregnant women in the intervention group will be told to squeeze and release the ball once after counting to three, to inhale each time they press the ball, to exhale when they relax their grip and to focus only on the ball. Pregnant women will be instructed to continue this practice throughout the NST procedure (approximately 20 minutes). Pregnant women in the control group will not receive any intervention other than routine hospital care during the NST procedure. Data on anxiety and fetal well-being outcomes will be collected before and after NST.
The aim of this study is to assess the cost-effectiveness of schema therapy compared to treatment as usual (TAU) in patients with treatment-resistant anxiety disorders. In a multicenter randomized controlled trial, patients will be assigned to receive individual schema therapy (maximum of 40 sessions) or treatment as usual (control group) within one year. The primary outcome is the difference between ST and TAU conditions in anxiety symptoms as measured with the Beck Anxiety Inventroy (BAI) at post treatment. Secondary outcomes include quality of life, societal costs, general mental health, remission from the anxiety disorders and/or comorbid affective disorders, positive and negative effects of psychotherapy, schemas and schema modes, and satisfaction. Measurements take place at baseline and after 1, 3, 6, 12, 24 and 36 months (follow-up of two years).

Purpose of the Study This study aims to determine the effect of mindfulness-based stress reduction program given to infertile women on perceived stress, anxiety, depression and salivary cortisol. Materials and Method It will be conducted in a randomized controlled experimental design. This randomized controlled trial will follow the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) 2010 guidelines.
The goal of this clinical trial is to test a new brain stimulation treatment target for individuals with depression plus at least one additional psychiatric disorder. The main question is to understand the safety profile of a non-invasive form of brain stimulation called accelerated intermittent theta burst stimulation when it is targeting the posterior parietal cortex. Additional questions focus on whether this stimulation improves symptoms of depression and other psychiatric disorders as well as whether this stimulation changes brain function.
The purpose of this study is to use transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to better understand the neural circuits associated with social motivation. Participant includes four study visits each that range from 1.5 - 3.0 hours in duration over approximately a one month period. The first study visit involves answering survey questions, a clinical interview, and computer tasks. The second study visit involves a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan, computer tasks, and a brief TMS protocol. The second and third study visits involve a full session of TMS followed by an MRI scan and computer tasks. Adults in the Auburn/Apelika area who avoid social situations, experience symptoms of depression or social anxiety, and are between 25 years old and 50 years old are eligible to participate.
The goal of this clinical trial is to test a brief, behavioral telehealth treatment program (STEP-UP) for depression and anxiety in youths (age 8-16 years old). Youths and families will be recruited through participating community health centers and will be randomly assigned to either: (a) receive STEP-UP care from providers at their health center or (b) be referred to care from local community mental health clinicians. Youth and families will be interviewed before treatment starts, 16 weeks later, and 24 weeks later to assess how youth are feeling. The main question the study aims to answer is whether STEP-UP improves youths functioning in daily life, anxiety symptoms, and depression symptoms. Researchers will compare STEP-UP to referral to community treatment-as-usual mental health services to see if STEP-UP is more effective.
The proposed project aims to test the cognitive and neural effects of a cognitive training in a sample of individuals seeking treatment for anxiety, depression, or traumatic stress symptoms. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. Group 1 will receive a computer-based program that is designed as a cognitive training intervention and Group 2 will receive a similar computer-based exercise that researchers think will be less effective in training thinking skills (also known as a control or sham condition). Participants will be compared on cognitive performance and brain response during cognitive tasks from baseline to post-treatment.
