Filter by:The use of mobile applications to promote the practice of physical activity has begun to be used in the adolescent population in recent years. This has made it possible to carry out interventions inside and outside the educational setting, the latter being the ones that have brought the greatest benefits. Thus, it has been observed that the promotion of the use of mobile applications in out-of-school hours from the subject of physical education has reported significant benefits on body composition and fitness in the adolescent population. However, there is no known research that has analyzed whether the effect achieved with mobile applications when their use is mandatory disappears when they are no longer promoted from the physical education subject. Therefore, this project goes further and tries to find out whether after the ten-week period of mandatory use of the applications, adolescents continue to use the applications autonomously and the beneficial effects achieved are maintained or disappear due to the lack of use. For this purpose, a 10-week intervention was planned in which the adolescents used the mobile applications. Prior to the start of the intervention, the adolescents' body composition and fitness (pre) were measured. At the end of the intervention of mandatory use of the mobile applications, the adolescents were measured again (post). And after the post measurement, the adolescents were left for 10 weeks during which they could use the applications autonomously. A third measurement of the adolescents was performed after this 10-week period (post 2). The aim of this project was to find out the effects of stopping the use of the mobile fitness apps on body composition and fitness of the adolescents.
The goal of this observational study is to investigate the specificity of the growing up process in young people with disabled siblings. The functioning of adolescents with disabled siblings as a person growing up in three environments will be examined: family, peers and school. The main questions it aims to answer are: - Does having a disabled sibling influence the functioning of a healthy child in the family system? - Do siblings of disabled children show a higher level of maturity than their peers with properly developing siblings? - Does having a disabled sibling modify a child's functioning among peers? - Does having a disabled sibling modify healthy adolescent's educational experience? - Is there a greater risk of psychological disorders among siblings of disabled children than among siblings of normally developing children? The 160 participants' dyads will take part in the study: healthy adolescent having disabled sibling and one of his/her parents. The parents' participation is necessary to assess the presence of possible internalizing and externalizing disorders among adolescents taking part in the study. The healthy adolescent will be filling out questionnaires regarding the remaining studied variables: functioning in the family - siblings relations, parental attitudes; at school - school achievement, extracurricular activities; relations with peers - time spending with peers, number of friends, as well as the growing up process trajectory - parentification and the way of going through an adolescent crisis. Researchers will compare four groups (40 dyads in each group): three groups of adolescents having disabled sibling 1) intellectual disability, 2) motor disability, 3) chronic somatic disease, and 4) control group - healthy adolescent having sibling without any disability, to see if they differ from each other referring to the studied variables.

These concerns extend to their impact on interpersonal relationships and mental well-being. The Zep Foundation's World Digital Detox Program to address the challenges posed by excessive screen exposure, social media usage, and digital screen dependency. This study aimed to assess the efficacy of the digital detox family intervention, endorsed by the World Digital Detox Day program, in curbing the use of digital devices-specifically smartphones and social media-and enhancing the overall well-being of youth and families.
A primary factor in preventing diseases in adulthood, as well as overweight and obesity, is the promotion of physical activity from childhood and adolescence. Although the recommendations for practicing physical activity at this stage are broad, low rates of practice that do not comply with the recommendations are reported. There is a high percentage of use of new technologies, particularly mobile applications, they have been used with some success to improve the health of similar populations, although its use for this purpose has certain limitations. Therefore, this project will investigate whether the use of various mobile and wearable applications can be an effective way to periodically increase physical activity levels and establish new healthy habits that improve the present and future health of adolescents. Several secondary education centers in the Region of Murcia will participate in this project. The objective is to obtain relevant results that can serve as a starting point for other interventions at a national or international level.
The purpose of the study is to rigorously evaluate Next4You, an innovative, fully mobile program featuring 6 content modules, each containing 8-10 microlessons intended to reduce rates of unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STI) and increase essential knowledge, attitudes, and skills among young people aged 16-19 currently in the foster care system in California.
The primary goal of this study is to test the effectiveness of the iDECIDE (Drug Education Curriculum: Intervention, Diversion, and Empowerment) curriculum, a novel drug education and diversion program, in approximately 300 middle and high school students, who have violated their school substance use policies in the past month, as an alternative to punitive school responses for school-based substance use infractions. This randomized controlled trial will test the hypothesis that adolescents randomized to the iDECIDE curriculum will have improved substance use outcomes (i.e., knowledge, attitudes, and behavior) compared to adolescents in a waitlist control group. The outcomes of this study will measure knowledge of drug effects and brain development, perceptions of harm from substance use, willingness to quit or reduce use, and substance use behavior.
The goal of this observational study is to develop a questionnaire to assess a child's concept of pain and to evaluate its psychometric properties in schoolchildren aged 8-17 years. The main question[s] it aims to answer are: - Validate to Spanish language the Conceptualization of Pain Questionnaire to assess a child's concept of pain. - Conduct an analysis to evaluate its psychometric properties. Participants will respond a questionnaire of 15 items and asks respondents to respond if they believe the items/statements to be true or false, although they are allowed to respond undecided.
This is a multi-country prospective intervention study, with a mixed-method process evaluation to assess the implementation, effects and short-term cost-effectiveness of Y-Check. The intervention involves screening, on-the-spot care and, if needed, referral of adolescents through health and wellbeing check-up visits in early adolescence (10-14 years) and older adolescence (15-19 years old). In each city, the intervention will be delivered to 2000 adolescents recruited in schools (both age groups) or community venues (older adolescents only).
the investigators will use 4 technology based tools (combinations of youtube videos, links to online resources, tiktok videos, and other media) in a study of 96 Sexual and Gender Minority Youth (SGMY) to determine the effectiveness of them in helping youth to seek out mental health help. Participants will be divided into 1 of 16 groups and will interact with other participants anonymously on Discord. Each group will have access to 1, 2, 3, or all 4 of the tools which are categorized by a specific subject (except for one group who will have no access to the tools in order to compare this outcome against those who use the tools). There will be a survey before starting the Discord portion which will last 4 weeks, and a survey afterwards.
This study will deploy a scalable secondary prevention program that leverages existing foster youth transition services to improve mental health functioning and service use before and after exiting foster care. Our short-term objective is to remotely test a group intervention called Stronger Youth Networks and Coping (SYNC) that targets cognitive schemas influencing stress responses, including mental health help-seeking and service engagement, among foster youth with behavioral health risk. SYNC aims to increase youth capacity to appraise stress and regulate emotional responses, to flexibly select adaptive coping strategies, and to promote informal and formal help-seeking as an effective coping strategy. The proposed aims will establish whether the 10-module program engages the targeted proximal mechanisms with a signal of efficacy on clinically-relevant outcomes, and whether a fully-powered randomized control trial (RCT) of SYNC is feasible in the intended service context. Our first aim is to refine our SYNC curriculum and training materials, prior to testing SYNC in a remote single-arm trial with two cohorts of 8-10 Oregon foster youth aged 16-20 (N=16). Our second aim is to conduct a remote two-arm individually-randomized group treatment trial with Oregon foster youth aged 16-20 with indicated behavioral health risk (N=80) to examine: (a) intervention group change on proximal mechanisms of coping self-efficacy and help-seeking attitudes, compared to services-as-usual at post-intervention and 6-month follow-up: and (b) association between the mechanisms and targeted outcomes, including emotional regulation, coping behaviors, mental health service use, and symptoms of depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Our third aim is to refine and standardize the intervention and research protocol for an effectiveness trial, including confirming transferability with national stakeholders.
