Filter by:The principal objective of Tennessee Youth Prepared for Success is to pilot, implement, and test innovative adolescent pregnancy prevention strategies using a randomized controlled trial (RCT) to effectively educate youth on both abstinence and contraception with the goal of reducing youth pregnancies, births, and STIs. Tennessee Youth Prepared for Success will address Adulthood Preparation Subjects (APS) to promote youths' successful and healthy transition to adulthood; include a Positive Youth Development (PYD) approach to engage youth and provide positive influences and skill building opportunities; and implement activities/interventions within a trauma-informed approach to account for the mental health needs of those who have experienced maltreatment, abuse, or violence. The project's goals and principal and subordinate objectives align with the PREIS program's goals/objectives and purpose, including (1) targeting high-risk youth to prevent pregnancy and STIs, including HIV/AIDS; (2) rigorously evaluating interventions using an RCT; (3) manualizing/packaging curriculum; and (4) disseminating lessons learned, best practices, and relevant findings. Tennessee Youth Prepared for Success will serve 1,200 youth ages 14-19 in 9 primarily rural counties in East/Middle/West Tennessee, targeting high-risk/vulnerable youth, including rural youth, those residing in counties with high teen birth rates, and/or hard-to-reach youth (e.g., systems-involved).
The investigators will conduct a cluster randomized controlled trial in secondary schools in Nigeria to evaluate the impact of school-based life skills training delivered in safe spaces with and without digital literacy training. This study aims to estimate the causal impacts of the training on adolescents' school performances and retention, socio-emotional skills, digital skills, health, marriage, fertility, and labor market outcomes.
The aim of this study is to adapt the Parenting for Lifelong Health for Parents and Teens (PLH) with the Helping Adolescents Thrive Comics in North Macedonia and the Republic of Moldova and conduct a pilot feasibility study of the adapted version. The program will be delivered by ALTERNATIVA in North Macedonia and Health for Youth Association in the Republic of Moldova. The intervention and training materials will be adapted for the local context and languages (Romanian, Macedonian, and Russian). Facilitators and coaches will be trained to deliver the intervention in the fall of 2023. A pre-post pilot study will be conducted testing the feasibility of the program and the assessment measures with caregivers (30 per country) and their 10-14-year-old children (30 per country). This includes examination of outcomes related to implementation fidelity, program acceptability, and preliminary program effectiveness in improving teens' behavioral and emotional problems. This feasibility study is part of a larger implementation science project using the MOST framework (Multiphase Optimization Strategy). This specific protocol is for the preparation phase of MOST (Phase 1). There are two more phases of MOST that will follow: the optimization phase (Phase 2) and the evaluation phase (Phase 3). The results of Phase 1 will be used to inform any changes to the intervention and assessment measures that may be necessary before testing the intervention in Phase 2, which will involve a randomized factorial trial.
The study aims to implement Using the Connect (UTC), an innovative, game-based intervention designed to increase protective factors and decrease adolescent pregnancies. This intervention will be implemented in Texas middle schools and community-based organizations. The long-term goal is to promote optimal health in youth and prevent adolescent pregnancy in populations disproportionately impacted by adolescent pregnancy and sexually transmitted infection (STI) rates. The short-term objective is to conduct a robust, multi-site clustered randomized controlled trial to evaluate implementation outcomes and the impact of UTC, a novel theory-based game developed using powerful and effective human-centered design (HCD) strategies, on intention to delay sexual activity.
The aim of this study is to assess the impact of an in-person multi-component Advanced Cooking Education (ACE) 4-H after school program. The ACE Program consists of mindfulness, nutrition education, cooking labs, and professional development activities.
This study will evaluate the use of publicly available free sunscreen dispensers at Maine beaches and Boston parks. Aim 1: Determine the impact of DFS+ (dispensers, flyers, enhanced signage, + a social media component delivered by teen ambassadors) sun protection education on the use of free sunscreen dispensers by adolescents ages 12-18 compared with DFS (dispensers, flyers, standard signage). Aim 2: Outcomes evaluation to assess the effects of the sunscreen dispensers and the sun-safety educational intervention on sun protection knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors within the community. The aim of this study is to look at outcomes related to diet and nutrition, mindfulness, and cooking skills amongst middle school students who participated in a 12-week 4-H after school program called the Advanced Cooking Education Program.
PURPOSE: In the proposed project, the investigators seek to examine whether the SWIFT Program might be efficacious to improve students' prosocial skills and emotion and behavior regulation and improve home-school communication and the use of positive parenting practices for families. The investigators will also test whether the SWIFT program might be efficacious to improve students' longer-term school adjustment and parents' involvement in school. SETTING: Study activities will take place in ten school districts in Lane County, OR. The districts have approximately 10,000 middle school students (Grades 6-8), and approximately 60% of students are eligible for free and reduced price lunch. Some participating districts participated in the IES-funded Goal 2 study to develop the SWIFT Program. POPULATION: 320 students in Grades 6-8 who are receiving special education services for emotional or behavioral disorders, and transitioning or at risk of transitioning between school settings and placements will be recruited. Parents and content area teachers of all participating students will be recruited to complete assessment measures. It is expected that up to 15% of the children in the study will be of Latino ethnicity and approximately 60% will be European-American and 10-20% will be of other or multiple ethnicities. INTERVENTION: The SWIFT Program is a 9-12 month intervention that includes four components: (a) behavioral progress monitoring, (b) case management of the intervention elements and coordination with the school, (c) parent support to promote parent engagement/collaboration with the school and study routines in the home, and (d) behavioral skills coaching for students. SERVICES AS USUAL (SAU) CONTROL CONDITION: The SAU students and families will continue to receive any services that they were receiving prior to their entry into the study (as will the SWIFT students and families). These may include school-based interventions and supports and related services as required in the student's IEP.
This study consists in the the design, implementation, and evaluation of the first web-based computer tailored intervention program aimed at the prevention of cannabis use in Spanish adolescents (ALERTA CANNABIS). A Cluster Randomized Controlled Trial is conducted to test the effectiveness of ALERTA CANNABIS in students aged 14 to 18 years across 34 high schools from Andalusia (southern Spain), which are randomized either to the experimental or the control condition (EC and CC).
A controlled pre-post design study on Take it Personal! has demonstrated effectiveness in reducing the frequency and severity of youth use of alcohol, cannabis or other illicit drugs. Take it Personal! is an existing indicated prevention programme for substance use in youth with a mild intellectual disability or borderline intellectual functioning that addresses each participant's high-risk personality traits for substance abuse. The current Take it Personal! programme is further developed and optimized in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. In particular, the investigators aim to integrate personalized daily diary monitoring in the programme so that trainers can monitor client progresses closely and gain insights into change mechanisms, providing starting points for therapeutic efforts in programme sessions. The investigators conduct a series of case studies with a non-concurrent multiple baseline design to evaluate the effectiveness of Take it Personal!. The baseline lengths are randomly determined, and therefore the start of the intervention is staggered across participants.
