NCT ID: NCT00004014 Completed - Prostate Cancer Clinical Trials

Liposomal Doxorubicin in Treating Patients With Prostate Cancer

Start date: April 1999
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of liposomal doxorubicin in treating patients with prostate cancer that has not responded to hormone therapy.

NCT ID: NCT00004001 Completed - Prostate Cancer Clinical Trials

S9916, Combination Therapy in Treating Patients With Advanced Prostate Cancer That Has Not Responded to Hormone Therapy

Start date: October 1999
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy and hormone therapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug and giving drugs in different ways may kill more tumor cells. It is not yet known whether estramustine plus docetaxel is more effective than mitoxantrone plus prednisone for prostate cancer. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to compare the effectiveness of estramustine plus docetaxel with that of mitoxantrone plus prednisone in treating patients who have stage IV prostate cancer that has not responded to hormone therapy.

NCT ID: NCT00003915 Active, not recruiting - Prostate Cancer Clinical Trials

Chemotherapy and Hormone Therapy in Treating Patients With Prostate Cancer

Start date: May 1999
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Androgens can stimulate the growth of prostate cancer cells. Hormone therapy using bicalutamide and leuprolide may fight prostate cancer by reducing the production of androgens. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of chemotherapy consisting of docetaxel and estramustine plus hormone therapy in treating patients who have previously undergone radiation therapy or surgical removal of the prostate for stage I prostate cancer.

NCT ID: NCT00003903 Completed - Prostate Cancer Clinical Trials

Effect of Androgen Suppression on Bone Loss in Patients With or Without Bone Metastases Secondary to Prostate Cancer

Start date: July 1999
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Assessing the effect of androgen suppression on bone loss in prostate cancer patients may improve the ability to plan treatment, may decrease the risk of fractures and bony pain, and may help patients live more comfortably. PURPOSE: Clinical trial to determine the effect of androgen suppression on bone loss in patients who have prostate cancer.

NCT ID: NCT00003871 Completed - Prostate Cancer Clinical Trials

PSA Vaccine Therapy in Treating Patients With Advanced Prostate Cancer

Start date: September 24, 1999
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Vaccines may make the body build an immune response to kill tumor cells. PURPOSE: Randomized phase II trial to study the effectiveness of different regimens of PSA vaccines in treating patients who have advanced prostate cancer.

NCT ID: NCT00003858 Withdrawn - Prostate Cancer Clinical Trials

Mitoxantrone Following Surgery in Treating Patients With Prostate Cancer at High Risk for Recurrence

Start date: n/a
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Giving chemotherapy after surgery may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of mitoxantrone given after surgery in treating patients who have prostate cancer that is at high risk for recurrence.

NCT ID: NCT00003819 Completed - Prostate Cancer Clinical Trials

Vaccine Therapy Plus QS21 in Treating Patients With Progressive Prostate Cancer

Start date: June 1998
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Vaccines may make the body build an immune response to kill tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of vaccine therapy given with QS21 in treating patients who have progressive prostate cancer.

NCT ID: NCT00003781 Completed - Prostate Cancer Clinical Trials

Docetaxel in Treating Patients With Stage IV Prostate Cancer

Start date: December 1998
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. PURPOSE: Phase II trial of docetaxel in treating patients who have stage IV prostate cancer that has not responded to hormone therapy.

NCT ID: NCT00003740 Completed - Prostate Cancer Clinical Trials

Trastuzumab in Treating Patients With Prostate Cancer

Start date: October 1998
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Monoclonal antibodies can locate tumor cells and either kill them or deliver tumor-killing substances to them without harming normal cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of trastuzumab in treating patients who have prostate cancer that has not responded to hormone therapy.

NCT ID: NCT00003734 Active, not recruiting - Prostate Cancer Clinical Trials

Combination Hormone Therapy Followed by Radiation Therapy in Treating Patients With Prostate Cancer

Start date: December 1998
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Androgens can stimulate the growth of prostate cancer cells. Hormone therapy using triptorelin and flutamide may fight cancer by reducing the production of androgens. It is not yet known whether giving hormone therapy for 4 months is more effective than giving therapy for 8 months prior to radiation therapy for prostate cancer. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to study the effectiveness of combination hormone therapy for 4 or 8 months followed by radiation therapy in treating patients with prostate cancer.
