NCT ID: NCT03218605 Completed - Physical Activity Clinical Trials

Which Physical Activity Influences Achilles Tendon Blood Flow the Most?

Start date: March 2014
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Previous studies have shown that a decreased blood flow is a risk factor in the occurrence of Achilles tendon (AT) injuries. Based on the current literature, no consensus was reached as to the most solid warming-up of the AT. Therefore, knowledge about activities which increase blood flow in the AT could be useful in the development of a solid warming-up programme for the AT. The aim of this investigation was to define the influence of different kinds of physical activity on the vascularisation of the AT in a healthy asymptomatic population. Subjects performed five activities in randomized order: running, static stretch, dynamic stretch, cycling and rope skipping. The vascularisation of the AT of the dominant limb was measured with the non-invasive oxygen-to-see (O2C) device. Blood flow was measured before, immediately after, five and ten minutes after activity to investigate the duration of the vascular response to activity.

NCT ID: NCT03213873 Completed - Parkinson Disease Clinical Trials

Neuroplasticity in Parkinson´s Disease After Training

BETA-PD
Start date: August 15, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This project aims to determine the effects of the HiBalance program on neuroplastic changes in people with mild to moderate Parkinson´s disease. The main hypothesis is that highly challenging exercise will lead to greater gait and balance ability, increased levels of physical activity and an improved health related quality of life. The investigators further hypothesize that neuroplasticity changes will be seen in corresponding areas of the brain, neuropsychological changes on cognitive test measures, and that exercise will inhibit the degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the brain through the mediation of neurotrophic factors.

NCT ID: NCT03212859 Completed - Physical Activity Clinical Trials

Coach2Move: Sustainable in Daily Practice

Start date: November 6, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Implementation of a previously shown (cost-)effective physical therapeutic treatment strategy for community-dwelling older adults.

NCT ID: NCT03205878 Not yet recruiting - Clinical trials for Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Telecoaching to Improve Physical Activity in Patients With Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Start date: July 1, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are less physically active than healthy controls. First choice of treatment for OSA is continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy with an improvement in oxygen saturation and sleep. No improvement on physical activity has been shown. The current study would randomize patients in a standard care group (CPAP) and an intervention group (CPAP + telecoaching). Telecoaching will be performed for 3 months, with physical activity assessment before, after 3 months and 12 years.

NCT ID: NCT03205293 Active, not recruiting - Physical Activity Clinical Trials

School-Based Intervention Program to Promote Healthy Eating and Physical Activity

Start date: March 1, 2011
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this research is to develop, apply, and evaluate a school-based intervention program in East Jerusalem schools, designed to increase knowledge and to improve the attitudes and healthy behavior of schoolchildren, their teachers and their mothers' with regard to healthy eating and physical activity habits. The study tested the hypothesis that the impact of the entire school intervention program on students' lifestyles is mediated by their teachers' engagement in health promotion and by their mothers' involvement in school activity.

NCT ID: NCT03200639 Completed - Physical Activity Clinical Trials

Cachexia in Gynecological Cancer and the Preventive Role of Weight Training

Start date: May 30, 2015
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The study aim was to compare the effectiveness of combined training (CT; aerobic + resistance exercises) and high-intensity interval body weight training (HIITBW) on body composition, metabolic and inflammatory profile, physical function and quality of life in older women with gynecological and breast cancer and their pair-matched controls (older women with no cancer). The hypothesis of the present clinical trial is that HIITBW is effective as well as CT for improvements on body composition, metabolic and inflammatory profile, physical function and quality of life in older women with gynecological and breast cancer.

NCT ID: NCT03196570 Completed - Physical Activity Clinical Trials

Increasing Physical Activity in Latino Men

Start date: March 12, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of a web and text-messaged based intervention designed to increase physical activity among Latino men in Rhode Island. The study will also examine potential moderators of treatment effects including demographics, acculturation, and environmental variables such as the neighborhood built, social and economic environments.

NCT ID: NCT03192475 Completed - Obesity Clinical Trials

The Pitt Retiree Study: A Diabetes Prevention Program for Medicare Eligible Older Adults

PRS
Start date: January 28, 2013
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The Pitt Retiree Study (PRS) disseminates a novel, yet practical, diabetes prevention program among Medicare eligible adults in Western Pennsylvania. This study will provide 4, and 12 month outcome data (with a no treatment follow-up assessment at 24 months) to help determine whether a continued contact group telephone intervention is feasible and effective in enhancing health outcomes and physical functional ability in high risk adults (aged 65-80) with obesity and cardiometabolic risk factors .

NCT ID: NCT03191968 Completed - Quality of Life Clinical Trials

Prostate Cancer Survivors and Exercise and Behavioral Counseling

BOOST
Start date: July 6, 2017
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

This study will evaluate the feasibility of delivering a supervised physical activity program plus standard exercise counseling (SPA+EC) versus a supervised physical activity plus motivationally-enhanced behavioral counseling (SPA+BC) in prostate cancer survivors (PCS). Fifty participants (n=25) will be randomized to receiving SPA+EC or SPA+BC (n=25). We hypothesize that PCS receiving the SPA+BC intervention will result in greater increases in objectively-assessed physical activity compared with PCS receiving the SPA+EC intervention.

NCT ID: NCT03191630 Completed - Clinical trials for Cardiovascular Diseases

Increasing Activity Post-Kidney Transplant With SystemCHANGE

CHANGE
Start date: October 1, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Inactivity is a common problem among older kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) and is associated with their high incidence of obesity and cardiovascular problems which are the leading cause of death for KTRs. However, the combination of SystemCHANGE activity trackers holds promise for increasing physical activity of KTR patients post-surgery. This pilot study will incorporate Fitbit health trackers with an intervention of questions about influences to physical activity in a population of kidney transplant recipients who are at particularly high risk of cardiovascular disease and death.
