Short Pulse Width Versus Low Frequency DBS in Parkinson's Disease

The aim is to compare the effect of reducing the conventional pulse width or frequency of stimulation for axial symptoms occurring after Subthalamic nucleus Deep Brain Stimulation (STN DBS) treatment. The participants will be assessed with chronic stimulation with conventional stimulation parameters, namely 60 us and 130 Hz, and after random allocation to short pulse width (30 us) or low frequency (80 Hz).

Imaging a Cholinergic Biomarker of Cognition in Parkinson's Disease

This is an imaging study designed to illuminate the function of the cholinergic system and its association with cognitive skills in people with Parkinson's disease. The hypothesis of this study is that there will be an association between cholinergic terminal density, sex hormones, and cognitive functioning. Participants will receive a PET and MRI scan along with a battery of neurocognitive tests at baseline and again at 18 months follow-up. Hormone levels will be measured at baseline.

Development and Application of Tele-Neuro Rehabilitation System

Disability due to neurological diseases is increasing in our country and world. With regular physiotherapy and rehabilitation, as well as patients' symptoms are brought under control, their affected functions in daily life are achieved and levels of independence and physical activity increase. Thus, the patients' quality of life and participation in social life is improved and patients are supported in physical, social and psychological terms. In recent years, it has been reported that exercise with telerehabilitation systems increase the compliance and participation of patients to the treatment, and even this system seems as effective as standard rehabilitation practices. Delivering the treatment through telerehabilitation system when that patients cannot receive it in the hospital due to epidemic, restriction, transfer difficulties, personal and environmental limitations will enable patients to receive the rehabilitation services.Telerehabilitation system is frequently encountered in the abroad, but there are limited systems with Turkish version specific to this patient group in our country. The aim of project is to develop and detect the efficiency of a telerehabilitation system which is used to assess, follow and design home-based rehabilitation program among individuals with chronic neurological diseases who have difficulty in participating in physiotherapy and rehabilitation services because of personal or environmental reasons.

Multisensory Training in PD

People with Parkinson's disease (PD) were characterized by many motor symptoms, including rigidity, postural instability, bradykinesia, and resting tremor. These motor symptoms might cause gait dysfunction. Gait dysfunction represented a common sign of PD, including reduced gait velocity, reduced stride length, reduced arm swing, and increased gait variability. Poor postural control in people with PD might result to increase gait variability and then increase fall risk. Previous studies reported that proprioceptive-vestibular multisensory training improved postural stability in people with PD. However, no literature investigated the effects of proprioceptive-vestibular multisensory training on gait variability. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the effect of proprioceptive-vestibular multisensory training on gait variability in people with PD.

Cognitive Testing Online in Parkinson's Disease

This is a feasibility and pilot study. Though large-scale online neurocognitive testing is increasingly being done in psychiatry, there are no such efforts in Parkinson's research. Thus a large part of this pilot study will be to demonstrate feasibility and reliability, and use this experience to develop a feasible protocol for ongoing research. The specific short-term objectives are: 1. To establish the feasibility of performing large-scale deep cognitive phenotyping using online cognitive testing. 2. To demonstrate that online neurocognitive testing is valid and reliable in a smaller sample of locally recruited participants tested both in-lab and online.
