Improving Walking With Heel-To-Toe Device

Introduction: The purpose of this study is to test the efficacy potential of using real-time positive auditory feedback to improve gait pattern in people with Parkinson's Disease (PD). The components of walking are commonly affected in patients with PD. Gait training for PD is usually based on verbal cues from the therapist that are only moderately effective. Based on good principals of gait and neuroplasticity, the Heel-To-Toe (Heel2Toe) sensor was developed to provide real-time auditory feedback during walking training. Methods: A two-group, randomized feasibility trial is planned with repeated measures of gait parameters and walking outcomes. Participants will be assessed at baseline, 3 and 6 months. Outcomes after the 5 training days will be obtained directly from the Hee2Toe device for both groups (with and without auditory feedback). The primary outcome is walking capacity measured by the Six-Minute Walk Test and the Standardized Walking Obstacle Course. Gait parameters will be captured by the Heel2Toe device Expected Contributions: Gait training using the Heel2Toe sensor will be potentially effective for improving walking pattern in people with PD.

In-home Cycling for Individuals With PD: Feasibility

This study seeks to examine the reach and maintenance of an in-home cycling program for underserved individuals with Parkinson disease and to determine the effectiveness of a 6-month in-home, progressive, tele-exercise cycling program and 3-month health coach follow-up for those same participants. It will also examine the influence of social support on exercise frequency, duration, quality of life, and overall activity level.

Gait Characteristics and Cognitive Evolution in Parkinson Disease

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a chronic progressive nervous system disease with gradual motor impairment. Cognitive dysfunction is common in PD, even in the early stages, and it is characterized by impairments in executive, attention, memory, language and visuospatial function. Motor symptoms, in particular, alterations in gait, have been studied in clinical practice to assess disease progression, and its response to treatments, both farmacological and physiotherapeutic. Recent research on wearable technology in PD has shown that motor tests can be automated using wearable technology to eliminate human supervision and patient-reported data. Particularly, the quantitative gait analysis by using inertial devices has been proposed as a sensitive tool to longitudinally monitor gait worsening, response to dopaminergic treatment over time and cognitive dysfunction in PD patients. The aim of this prospective multicente observational study is to investigate whether the dysfunction of specific gait parameters may be correlated to cognitive impairment (Attention/Executive Function Domain) in a cohort of ambulatory PD patients followed for 3 years.

A 2-Part Trial of CVL-751 in Subjects With Parkinson's Disease

This trial will be a 2-part, adaptive, open label, single and/or multiple oral dose, safety, tolerability, food effect trial of CVL-751 in subjects with Parkinson's disease. Part 1 is a placebo-controlled, single dose cohort intended for assessment of safety and tolerability. In case of intolerable AEs, Part 2 would proceed as a multiple dose titration trial to achieve a 15 mg once daily dose while maintaining L-Dopa treatment (Part 2A). In case of a favorable tolerability profile in Part 1, Part 2B would proceed as a single dose trial (similar to Part 1), with discontinuation of L-Dopa for 24 hours (12 hours pre-Day 1 dose and 12 hours post-Day 1 dose).

Aquatic Group Exercise for People With Parkinson Disease

This study will investigate the impact of land based or aquatic based group exercise on the balance, walking, balance confidence, and quality of life of people with idiopathic Parkinson disease. Participants will be randomized to participate in a land based or aquatic based group exercise program 2 times per week for 12 weeks. Prior to and after participation, balance, walking, quality of life, and balance confidence will be measured by a blinded examiner.
