Filter by:This trial aims to test the feasibility of Magnetic Seizure Therapy (MST) for Depression in patients diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease.
This paired set of studies seeks to establish the safety and efficacy of twice daily time-varying caloric vestibular stimulation (tvCVS) treatments using a solid-state Device developed by Scion NeuroStim, LLC (SNS), also known as ThermoNeuroModulation (TNM™), for treating symptoms associated with PD. The studies will be conducted at 15 centers, at minimum, in the United States and the United Kingdom. Up to 220 participants will first enter the double-blinded, controlled, randomized clinical trial (RCT) and will self-administer tvCVS treatments twice daily in the home setting over a period of 12 weeks (84 days). The RCT will be immediately followed by an open label extension (OLE) study during which all study participants will receive treatment for 12 weeks (84 days). Study participants will be followed for 16 weeks (112 days) post treatment-cessation and then the twice daily treatments will be re-introduced for the final 8 weeks (56 days). The RCT and OLE have been separated into two distinct studies with separate informed consent to enable the closeout and analysis of the RCT portion which will support regulatory submissions during the conduct of the OLE. However, participation in the OLE study will be a selection criterion for participating in the RCT, and thus, the two studies are defined within the context of a single protocol.
Dopaminergic drugs partially alleviate gait problems in Parkinson's disease, but the effects are not sustained in the long-term. Particularly, the freezing of gait, balance problems and other gait issues directly impacts patients' quality of life. Experimental epidural spinal cord stimulation studies have suggested positive effects on locomotion among PD patients, but the effects of non invasive stimulation have never been explored.
The objective of this study is to compare the effects of two similar long-term interprofessional programs, one of them delivers by in-person classes, and another delivers by online classes on the quality of life of people with Parkinson's. Method: People with PD will be randomized into 3 groups: (1) Face-to-face group, in which participants, in groups of 10 persons, followed a multidisciplinary health education program composed of 10 monthly face-to-face lectures; (2) Remote group, in which individuals followed the same lectures delivered by online; and (3) Control group, in which participants followed no lecture. The participants will be evaluated before (BED) and after (ABP) the education program conclusion (10 lectures). Health quality of life was adopted as a primary outcome. Independence in daily living activities, motor and non-motor symptoms severity, and global cognitive capacity was adopted as secondary measures, Besides, all participants will be asked to answer a survey to evaluate the knowledge improvement of key learning points of lectures. The results will be analyzed by ANOVA for repeated measures.
The overarching aim is to determine the benefits of Parkinson-specific exercise programs and general exercise patterns on physical function and disease-related quality of life among people with Parkinson Disease (PD). The significance of this project is that millions of individuals experience adverse consequences of PD and there is strong evidence that structured exercise programs have beneficial effects on motor function and PD-related quality of life. Participation in this study involves online surveys upon enrollment (i.e., baseline) and at 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, 1 year, and 2 years.
This study is investigating the impact of a boxing training program on people with Parkinson Disease. The investigators were provided data for the intervention group retrospectively by the organizers of the boxing club to assess participants' benefit from participation. The outcome measures were selected to measure different aspects of functional mobility. Of particular interest is the impact of challenging whole-body activities designed for boxing and their impact on turning speed and gait. The second phase of the study will gather control group information from people with Parkinson Disease who have not participated in a boxing program to compare differences in pre-test and post-test data over a period of 12 weeks. The specific population and study design are currently pending global pandemic restrictions. Subject recruitment will involve people who have never had access to a program of this nature. An alternative population for recruitment may involve the same participants from the boxing club in a crossover study format since the boxing club has been suspended for over a year due to health and safety concerns during the pandemic. The control group of either situation would be instructed to carry on with their daily activities as usual without changing their physical activity. We hypothesize that the intervention group would show greater improvements in functional mobility compared to the control group.
The ability to walk independently is a primary goal when rehabilitating an individual with Parkinson Disease (PD). Indeed, PD patients display a flexed posture that coupled with an excessive joint stiffness lead to a poor walking mechanics that increase their risk of falls. Although studies have already shown the many benefits of robotic-assisted gait training in PD patients, research focusing on optimal rehabilitation methods has been directed towards powered lower-limb exoskeleton. Combining the advantages delivered from the grounded devices with the ability to train in a real-world environment, these systems provide a greater level of subject participation and increase subject's functional abilities while the wearable robotic system guarantees less support. The purpose of the present work is to evaluate the effects of an Over-ground Wearable Exoskeleton Training (OWET) on gait impairments in comparison with a multidisciplinary intensive rehabilitation treatment. As gait is a complex task that involves both central (CNS) and peripheral nervous systems (PNS), targeted rehabilitation must restore not only gait mechanics (ST parameters) but also physiological gait pattern (joint kinematics and dynamics). To this aim the impact of OWET on both CNS and PNS will be evaluated. Thus, a quantitative assessment of an individual's gait and neuromuscular function to robustly evaluate recovery of altered sensorimotor function at both the PNS and CNS is proposed. To this aim, comprehensive GA (spatiotemporal (ST) parameter, joint kinematics, joint stiffness) and electromyography (EMG) will be combined to determine PNS improvements, and fMRI with EEG will be used to assess CNS improvements.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether the DopaFuse System can reduce the fluctuation of plasma levodopa levels compared to participants' standard intermittent doses of oral LD/CD tablets (background treatment). It will also assess whether the system is safe, well tolerated, and can relieve motor symptoms.
This is a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study that will evaluate the efficacy and safety of intravenous (IV) prasinezumab versus placebo in participants with Early Parkinson's Disease (PD) who are on stable symptomatic PD medication.
This Expanded Access IND is to evaluate the safety of multiple intravenous administrations of HB-adMSCs for treating Parkinson's disease in 10 patients between 76 and 95 y/o who do not qualify for other investigations.The dose to use for this expanded access is 200 million HB-adMSCs, administered through intravenous infusion only, with a treatment duration of 18 weeks. The program includes an up to 28 days screening period, an 18-week Treatment Period, and a 6-week Safety Follow-up Period.
