Filter by:Currently, there are no specific guidelines or best practice suggestions for best male catheterization as fat as insertion technique. There is however, information as to reducing infection, and as to recommended lubricant. From our experience, the investigators have noticed that when requesting the patient to attempt urination while inserting a urethral catheter, the level of pain and discomfort is reduced. In this study, the investigators will evaluate the pain level during male urethral catheterization in each technique. Our hypothesis is that the level of pain will be much less if the in the study group where the act of urination will be requested from the patient.
Pain exerts a tremendous cost in healthy care, rehabilitation and lost productivity. It is is associated with a wide range of diseases and their social consequences is a public health problem. With the progress of neuroscience and studies on the plasticity of the central nervous system, it has been provided a better understanding of the neurobiological mechanisms of pain. The neurohormone Melatonin stands by having systemic and diverse mechanisms of action, both in physiological and pathological situations, with modulating effects on the process of nociceptive signaling and neurochemical mechanisms such as serotonergic, opioidergic and GABAergic, exerting anti-inflammatory action, analgesic activity among others. The advent of neuromodulation techniques such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), which promote changes in neuronal activity and signaling to be effective in conditions of chronic pain by attenuating changes in cortical excitability. There is clinical evidence of the analgesic effect of Melatonin and tDCS alone. Thus, considering the potential for each isolated intervention and the lack of knowledge of their combined effect, the authors propose the present study to investigate the effect of this combination on the heat-pain detection threshold and the neuroplasticity in the healthy subjects.
This is a survey study that will be given to patients who have been prescribed a topical compound for pain management, wound care or scar care or to patients who have been requested to do a urinary drug test (UDT) by their provider. The initial survey for pain management, wound care, scar care or UDT will be given to the patient by their providers during their office visit.
The purpose of this study is to determine if a smaller needle size reduces discomfort suffered by patients both during and following intravitreal injections. It is the investigators belief that using a smaller size needle will help patients to be less fearful of intravitreal injections and more amenable to treatment. This study will also evaluate the effect of needle size on post injection intraocular pressure, to see if smaller needles may reduce wound leak and increase the intraocular pressure following injection. The investigators hypothesize that subject eyes injected with the smaller size needle will result in greater patient comfort both during and after their injection as compared to the eye injected with the larger needle. The investigators objective is to reduce any discomfort felt by patients who receive intravitreal injections. The investigators also hypothesize that the smaller needle will result in higher post injection pressures, and another objective is to determine if this can affect patient comfort and increase the risk of glaucomatous optic nerve damage.
Pain after amputation is a significant problem among amputees. Phantom limb pain may appear in up to 85% of patients and is usually resistant to a wide variety of treatments.It is believed that regional anesthesia, by preventing the establishment of central sensitization, may play a role in reducing the incidence of acute and chronic pain. Therefore the investigators will compare two methods of postoperative analgesic after after amputation by their efficiency and complication.
This study aims to investigate the effects of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) in reducing the symptoms of pain and numbness and improve the daily lives of cancer patients who have Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN).
This study's aim is to use hypnosis in cancer patients, in order to reduce the level of pain, as well as anxiety and depression, as compared to the control group. For this evaluation development the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale ( HADS) will be used.
Postoperative pain after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) can be difficult to manage and may delay recovery. There are multimodal postoperative pain management after TKA, including intravenous opioids, epidural analgesia, peripheral nerve blocks or periarticular infiltration with local anesthetics. All of these treatments may lead to side effects such as nausea, headache, hypotension, urinary retention, partial motor block and infection of the knee. Therefore the investigators will compare three methods of postoperative analgesic after TKA by their efficiency and complication.
The aim of this study is to investigate comparison of preemptive analgesic effects of dexketoprofen versus dexmedetomidine on the patients that is undergoing abdominal hysterectomy.
Both intravenous and oral acetaminophen have been shown to reduce post-operative pain scores when given preoperatively. This study investigates if there is a difference between the intravenous and the oral forms when given preoperatively to patients undergoing lumbar microdiscectomy. We hypothesize that the intravenous formulation does not improve pain scores or decrease opioid consumption during the first postoperative day compared to the oral formulation.
