Tolerability of Three Local Anesthetic Formulations in Conjunction With NGX-4010 for the Treatment of Neuropathic Pain

Start date: n/a
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

This study is a randomized, open-label multi-center evaluation of the tolerability of treatment with NGX-4010 in conjunction with pre-patch topical application of one of three 4% lidocaine-based local anesthetic products. Eligible subjects will have moderate to severe neuropathic pain secondary to painful diabetic neuropathy (PDN), postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) or HIV-associated neuropathy (HIV-AN), with average numeric pain rating scale (NPRS) scores during screening of 3 to 8 (inclusive).

NCT ID: NCT00082290 Completed - Pain Clinical Trials

Massage Therapy in Treating Patients With Cancer Pain

Start date: May 2003
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Massage therapy may help lessen pain caused by cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase II trial is studying how well massage therapy works in treating patients with cancer pain.

NCT ID: NCT00080912 Completed - Pain Clinical Trials

Single vs Multiple-Fraction Therapy in Treating Patients With Previously Irradiated Painful Bone Metastases

Start date: January 22, 2004
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. It is not yet known whether single-fraction (single-dose) re-irradiation therapy is as effective as multiple-fraction (many small doses of radiation therapy) re-irradiation therapy in relieving bone pain caused by bone metastases. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying single-dose radiation therapy to see if it works as well as multiple-dose radiation therapy in treating patients previously irradiated with painful bone metastases.

NCT ID: NCT00076544 Completed - Pain Clinical Trials

Ziconotide Effectiveness and Safety Trial in Patients With Chronic Severe Pain

Start date: February 2004
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this open-label study is to give chronic severe pain patients with existing intrathecal pump systems access to ziconotide.

NCT ID: NCT00073905 Completed - Pain Clinical Trials

Adjuvant Palliative Capecitabine and Gemcitabine in Treating Patients With Locally Advanced or Metastatic Biliary Tract Cancer

Start date: April 2003
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as capecitabine and gemcitabine, use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Palliative chemotherapy may improve the quality of life in patients who have locally advanced or metastatic biliary tract cancer and may help them live more comfortably. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of adjuvant capecitabine and gemcitabine in improving quality of life in patients who have locally advanced or metastatic biliary tract cancer.

NCT ID: NCT00068445 Completed - Pain Clinical Trials

Lamotrigine in Treating Peripheral Neuropathy Caused by Chemotherapy in Patients With Cancer

Start date: February 2004
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Lamotrigine may be effective in reducing pain, numbness, tingling, and other symptoms of peripheral neuropathy. It is not yet known whether lamotrigine is effective in treating peripheral neuropathy caused by chemotherapy. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying how well lamotrigine works in reducing pain, numbness, tingling, and other symptoms of peripheral neuropathy caused by chemotherapy in patients with cancer.

NCT ID: NCT00068081 Completed - Pain Clinical Trials

Controlled Study of NGX-4010 for the Treatment of Postherpetic Neuralgia

Start date: n/a
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of the study is to assess the efficacy, safety and tolerability of NGX 4010 applied for 60 minutes for the treatment of PHN.

NCT ID: NCT00065195 Completed - Pain Clinical Trials

REST: Reducing End-of-Life Symptoms With Touch

Start date: November 2003
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine whether massage therapy is effective in reducing pain and distress and improving quality of life among cancer patients at life's end.

NCT ID: NCT00064623 Completed - Pain Clinical Trials

Study of NGX-4010 for the Treatment of Painful HIV-Associated Neuropathy

Start date: August 2003
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of the study is to determine if an investigational drug, NGX-4010 (high-concentration capsaicin patch), is effective in treating painful HIV-associated neuropathy.
