The Effect of Different Irrigation and Disinfection Methods on Post-operative Pain (PP)

Aim: The aim of this study was to examine post-operative pain (PP) severity after conventional irrigation and sonic activation methods, with and without laser disinfection in mandibular molar teeth diagnosed with symptomatic apical periodontitis. Methods: In total, 80 patients with symptomatic apical periodontitis were included in this randomized clinical study. There were four different irrigation and disinfection groups. In group 1, conventional irrigation only was applied. In group 2, EDDY (VDW, Munich, Germany), a sonic irrigation activation system, was applied. In groups 3 and 4, irradiation with a 980-nm diode laser was performed, following irrigation with the conventional method (needle irrigation) and EDDY (VDW) irrigation system, respectively. PP was assessed using a visual analogue scale (VAS). The patients were instructed to record their PP using this scale 8, 24, 48 hours and 7 days post-procedure, in addition to their analgesic intake. A chi-square test, Fisher's exact chi-square test and Fisher-Freeman-Halton exact test were used to assess qualitative data. Inter-group and intra-group parameters were assessed using the Kruskal-Wallis test and Wilcoxon's test at a significance level of p < 0.05 (for both).

Research hypothesis H0: Postnatal mothers who apply dry heat on their episiotomy wound experience the same wound healing and pain as those who apply moist heat. H1: Postnatal mothers who apply dry heat on their episiotomy wound experience faster wound healing and less pain than those who apply moist heat. H2: Postnatal mothers who apply moist heat on their episiotomy wound experience faster wound healing and less pain than those who apply dry heat.

Comparative Analysis of Three Locoregional Anesthesia Methods in Breast Tumour Pathology Surgery

The present study compares the Erector Spinae Plane (ESP) block, Pectoral (PECS II) block, and Serratus-Intercostal Fascial Plane (SIFP) block. This is the first article to compare these three locoregional nerve block techniques in acute and chronic postoperative pain in breast tumour surgery. From June 1, 2018, to June 30, 2019, 103 patients undergoing breast cancer surgery were randomised to undergo one of three locoregional techniques (35 for ESP block, 34 for PECS II block, 34 for SIFP block). Locoregional techniques were performed under light sedation and then, general anaesthesia was used for the breast cancer surgery. Outcomes measured included pain (visual analog scale [VAS] in immediate postoperatory and at 24 hours. It also was collected opioid use at 24 hours, adverse events, and length of stay (for acute postoperatory). Moreover, at 3 months, a telephone interview was conducted with the patient and VAS was questioned. A year later, the patient was questioned again and asked for VAS, location of her pain, and pharmacological treatment. It was collected if patients were assisted or not by a Pain Unit.

Analgesic Effect of Bilateral Erector Spinae Plane Block With Ropivacaine After Sternotomy for Cardiac Surgery

The sternotomy site is the most painful area after cardiac surgery. Erector spinae plane block is effective in thoracic and abdominal surgery, but literature is lacking in cardiac surgery. The bilateral erector spinae plane block could reduce pain at rest and during mobilization, reduce opioids consumption, decrease postoperative complications, improve respiratory outcomes and improve patient comfort and satisfaction. The research hypothesis is that a single shot bilateral erector spinae plane block could reduce pain during mobilization during the first 48 hours after cardiac surgery performed with sternotomy
