View clinical trials related to Obesity.
Filter by:The study was designed to explore an alternative approach to reduce weight in human beings using a polyherbal formulation. A polyherbal formulation named as Obesecure was developed after screening of local medicinal flora. The formulation was further improved after pilot studies and Phase-I Clinical Trials.
Bariatric surgery (BS) has a history of new procedures and techniques arising and then disappearing due to problems and complications. The present is no different with new and old procedures changing with the regularity of night following day. One of the important questions today in BS is the length and or need/value of the Biliopancreatic limb bypass (BPLL.) The Sleeve and the Band have "0" bypass, the RNY has a "short" bypass and the Biliopancreatic Diversion type procedures have a "long" (distal) bypass. The Mini-Gastric Bypass Original Technique (MGB-OT) version of the One Anastomosis Bypass (OAGB) includes a "medium" length of bypass, longer than the BPLL of the RNY and shorter than the the "Long" BPL of the BPD procedures. In addition, uniquely, the MGB-OT includes a "Tailored" BPLL. Not all OAGB surgeons use this approach and several have argued in favor of a "Fixed" BPLL of 150 cm. This paper is part of a series of studies of the "Tailored" BPLL specifically in MGB-OT patients. Notably it demonstrates in an online survey that patient reported weight loss and food choices change after MGB-OT and in addition the changes are related to the "Tailored" BPLL
This study will investigate the acute effect of three isocaloric meals varying in level of food processing, including a whole foods, gluten-free, and highly processed meal on energy metabolism and blood glucose in 8-12 young adult, normal weight females. A secondary aim of this proposed study is to compare palatability, satiety, and perceived energy ratings among highly processed, unrefined, and gluten-free unrefined isocaloric meals.
This trial is conducted in China. The aim of this trial is to investigate Safety, Tolerability, PK and PD for Multiple Doses of IBI362 in Overweight or Obese Male and Female Subjects.
The present study hypothesized that significant weight loss is associated with a reduction in the inflammatory markers, leading to diminished cardiovascular risks in patients undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LGS). We found a decrease in MHR at postoperative 6 months from baseline in patients undergoing LSG. The decrease in MHR was more remarkable with increasing percentage of EWL, but no relationship between the %EWL and MHR.
The induction of general anaesthesia is associated with a fall in lung volume due in particular to a decrease in muscle tone and the formation of denitrogenation atelectasis. Many recent studies insist on the need to apply a so-called "protective" strategy of intraoperative ventilation, which combines the use of recruitment manoeuvres, reduced tidal volume (Vt) (6-8ml/kg) and positive expiratory pressure (PEEP) to prevent these phenomena. However, the setting of PEEP remains debated and several authors agree on the need to individualize ventilatory parameters, particularly in obese patients, without describing the individualization tools. In the ICU, it has been shown that electrical impedance tomography (EIT) can be used to individualise the PEEP level in a simple and non-invasive way. Therefore, we wish to determine whether the use of this technique during general anaesthesia allows for the individualization of PEEP, and whether the value determined is correlated with the body mass index (BMI).
The prevalence of HIV-associated wasting declined dramatically with the introduction of effective antiretroviral therapy (ART), but as patients survive longer on treatment the proportion of overweight (body mass index [BMI] >25 kg/m2) and obese (BMI >30 kg/m2) HIV-infected individuals has been rising over time and is reaching parity with the general population. Adipose tissue has broad effects on immune function relevant to HIV infection, including the basal inflammatory state and peripheral lymphocyte populations, but there are few data on the effects of high adiposity on HIV immunology. This issue is directly relevant to promoting the long-term health of ART-treated individuals, many of which can now survive for decades on treatment, as emerging evidence suggests that increased immune activation is a major risk factor for the development of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases in this population. HIV-infected individuals on ART have an approximately 2-fold higher risk of myocardial infarction and a 4-fold higher risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus, and the proportion of deaths among HIV-infected individuals due to non-AIDS conditions now exceeds those due to AIDS. Despite the increasing proportion of overweight and obese HIV-infected persons, few prior studies have investigated the interaction between adipose tissue, immune activation, and risk factors for cardiovascular and metabolic disease in treated HIV. The overall goal of this study is to understand the complex relationships between adipose tissue, innate and cellular immune activation, and metabolic and cardiovascular disease risk factors in persons on long-term antiretroviral therapy. To this end, we will use an observational, cross-sectional cohort design to compare in vivo markers of immune activation, ex vivo cytokine expression, and metabolic and cardiovascular disease markers in HIV-infected individuals with a range of body composition profiles and between overweight/obese HIV-infected and uninfected individuals.
Cognitive dysfunction is the impairment of mental process of perception. memory and information processing which allow the human to acquire knowledge and plan for the future. The etiology of Post operative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) is unclear and seems to be multifactorial involving a combination of patient, surgical, anesthetic and environmental factors. The definition of day surgery in Great Britain and Ireland is clear; the patient is admitted and discharged on the same day.
Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) is a type of visceral adipose tissue (VAT), functioning as a metabolically active endocrine organ and suggested to play an important role in the progression of metabolic syndrome (MetS). Obesity and MetS are commonly associated with an inflammatory status. The aim of the study was to evaluate the association of echocardiographically measured epicardial fat thickness (EFT) and inflammation, on the basis of c-reactive protein (CRP) and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), with MetS and its components in people with obesity. A total of 104 patients with body mass index (BMI)≥30 kg/m² were enrolled to the study. In all participants, EFT was measured with transthoracic echocardiography at end-systole. The patients were then classified into two groups according to whether they had MetS or not. EFT, clinical and biochemical parameters were compared between the two groups
Forty women aged between 18 and 75 years-old with a BMI> 30kg/m2 are recruited to participate in the evaluation of their medical management. They participate in an 8-week protocol as part of hospital medical treatment for weight loss at the Oxford Polyclinic in Cannes (IPOCA). The effects of 2 independent variables will be studied: (1) an adapted physical activity program and (2) nutritional supplementation with R-α-Lipoic acid (2x300mg/d) versus placebo (double-blind). The volunteers are randomly assigned to the different groups: Placebo with or without exercise groups and ALA with or without exercise groups. At the start of the protocol (T0), at 4 weeks (T4) and at 8 weeks (T8), various measurements are carried out (physical capacities, nutritional status, body composition, distribution of adipose mass by CT-scan). A venous sample taken for all participants is done at T0, T4 and T8 to investigate the immune profile of circulating T lymphocytes. This project is part of a translational research project to assess current care and to investigate the immunometabolic effects of a non-drug medical care of obesity (adapted physical activities, nutritional supplementation with α-lipoic acid, quality of food intake).
