Pilot Testing of Baby Feed: A Web Application for Health Professionals and Parents to Improve Infant Diets

This project will pilot test "Baby Feed" online web portals among clinicians and parents to learn about their experience with the portals. Baby Feed evaluates infant diets online using a validated Infant Food Frequency Questionnaire, provides immediate results online to health care providers on nutrients and foods/beverages consumed above or below the recommended levels, provides current diet recommendations by infant's age online, and helps track progress at home. The investigators will recruit 2 clinicians from Borinquen Health Care Center in Miami and 50 of their patients (parents with infants) scheduled for a routine Well-Child Visit when infants are 4-12 months old. Participants will be equally randomized to the intervention group or the control group. If randomized to Baby Feed, parents will discuss the results with the healthcare professional and track their infants' diets at home. Parents in the Control group will only complete the infant FFQ online but will not have access to the other features of Baby Feed. After 3 months, the investigators will evaluate the infant diet and weight gain during this period.

Obesity leads to physiological imbalance resulting in hyperglycemia, dyslipidaemia and inflammation and can generate systematic oxidative stress through multiple biochemical mechanisms. Oxidative stress (OS) can induce DNA damage and inhibit DNA repair mechanisms. Very low calorie diet (VLCD) have rapid positive effect on weight loss, glucose homeostasis, insulin resistance, inflammation and OS. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of a three-week VLCD on anthropometric, biochemical and genomic parameters in individuals with BMI ≥ 35kg/m2.

Research Study Looking at How Well Semaglutide Works in People Living With Obesity and Prediabetes

This study looks at how well a new medicine, called semaglutide, works at helping people with obesity and prediabetes. This study will look at how much weight participants lose, and if participants can go from having blood sugar that is higher than normal (prediabetes) to having normal blood sugar. Semaglutide is compared to a "dummy" medicine. The "dummy" medicine looks like semaglutide but has no effect on the body. In addition to taking the medicine, participants will have talks with study staff about healthy food choices, how to be more physically active and what participants can do to lose weight. Participants will either get semaglutide or "dummy" medicine - which treatment they get is decided by chance. Participants are 2 times as likely to get semaglutide as "dummy" medicine. Participants will need to take 1 injection once a week. The study medicine is injected with a thin needle in a skin fold in the stomach, thigh or upper arm. The study will last for about 19 months. Participants have to take the study medicine every week for the first 12 months. The last 7 months participants will not take any medication. Participants will have 14 clinic visits and 1 phone call with the study staff. At 9 of the clinic visits Participants will have blood samples taken. Women cannot take part if pregnant, breast-feeding or plan to become pregnant during the study period.

This study determines the feasibility of a telephone-based weight lost intervention in reducing cancer risk and health disparities in rural Ohio. Obesity is the leading preventable cause of cancer, and obesity-related inflammation is linked to elevated cancer risk, independent of obesity itself. Rural populations are a vulnerable population in need of increased access to tailored strategies and benefit from weight loss interventions. This study aims to see whether a telephone-based intervention may help obese people in rural area to reduce body weight, so as to prevent obesity-related cancer.

Effect of Sea Grapes-antioxidants Extract in Obese Men : 4 Weeks Randomized-Double Blind Controlled Trial

Doses of 150 mg/kg BW (30 mg/200g BW) sea grape extract in a previous pre-clinical trial, showed that it could improve blood glucose, total cholesterol and serum PGC-1 levels in rats fed a diet high in fat and cholesterol. In addition, you also have hepatoprotective activity (aka non-toxic) in diabetic mice. Previous research, is an in vivo (Pre-clinical) study that has not represented the benefits or efficacy of sea grape extract on variables tested in humans. Therefore, this clinical trial was conducted to support the effect of sea grape extract-antioxidant on blood glucose, total cholesterol, and PGC-1 levels in obese men for 4 weeks using a Randomized-Double Blind Controlled Trial.

Refining Novel Culturally Tailored Behavioral Weight Loss Treatment Components for Sexual Minority Women With Obesity

Obesity disproportionately impacts sexual minority women. Behavioral weight loss programs are the gold standard treatment for mild to moderate obesity. The investigators have developed an online behavioral weight loss program that is effective, low-cost, and highly scalable. However, existing research suggests that tailoring treatment to address 3 well-established weight loss barriers in sexual minority women will be critical for maximizing the relevance and efficacy of behavioral weight loss for this group. The goal of the first phase of this K23 is to develop 3 novel treatment components targeting sexual minority women's weight loss barriers (i.e., minority stress, low social support, and negative body image), to pilot the program in sexual minority women with overweight/obesity, and to conduct individual qualitative interviews to elicit feedback on the intervention's acceptability, cultural relevance, usability, and feasibility that will be used to refine the program. After a pre-piloting phase (consisting of initial content piloting, interviews, and intervention refinement; anticipated n=12), 8 participants will pilot the full 3-month weight loss program and will be randomized to pilot 0-3 novel tailored components (targeting minority stress, negative body image, and social support) over the 3-month period. Participants will complete quantitative and qualitative assessments of intervention acceptability and appropriateness post-treatment and the intervention will be refined.

Research Study to Investigate How Well Semaglutide Tablets Taken Once Daily Work in People Who Are Overweight or Living With Obesity (OASIS 1)

This study is being conducted to see if semaglutide tablets can be used as a treatment to help people living with overweight or obesity lose weight. This study will look at the change in participants body weight. Participants will either get semaglutide tablets (new medicine) or placebo tablets ('dummy' medicine that looks like semaglutide but has no effect on the body). For a fair comparison, people are divided into two groups at random by a computer. This process is called randomisation. Semaglutide tablets are new medicine being tested to treat overweight and obesity. Doctors in many countries can already prescribe semaglutide tablets at lower doses to treat type 2 diabetes. Participants will get semaglutide or placebo tablets for 68 weeks and will need to take 1 tablet every morning In addition to taking the medicine, participants will have talks with study staff about: - healthy food choices - how to be more physically active - what participants can do to lose weight The study will last for about 1½ year.Participants will have 14 clinic visits and 7 phone calls with the study doctor. Blood samples will be taken at 10 visits. Participants will have a test to check their heart done at 3 visits. Women cannot take part if pregnant, breast-feeding or plan to get pregnant during the study period. If participant is a woman and is able to become pregnant, participant will be checked for pregnancy via urine tests.
