Musculoskeletal Nociceptive Pain in Participants With Neuromuscular Disorders

The primary aim is to characterize the prevalence, severity and quality of musculoskeletal nociceptive pain in adult patients with neuromuscular disorders (NMD). The secondary objectives are to evaluate whether severity and distribution of muscle pain is associated with muscle function, and to assess whether muscle pain is associated with alterations of muscle elasticity and muscle stiffness. Results of patients with neuromuscular disorders will be compared to age- and gender-matched healthy volunteers. Approx. 70 patients with neuromuscular disorders and 20 healthy volunteers will be enrolled, including patients with the following neuromuscular disorders: histologically confirmed inclusion body myositis (IBM), genetically confirmed late-onset Pompe disease (LOPD), genetically confirmed spinal muscular atrophy type 3 (SMA3), genetically confirmed facio-scapulo-humeral muscle dystrophy (FSHD), genetically confirmed myotonic dystrophy type 1 or type 2 (DM1, DM2). The duration of patient recruitment will be around 12 months.

A Study to Test the Effectiveness of Different Interventions to Improve Physical Activity in Adults.

During the initial months of the COVID-19 pandemic, physical activity (PA) engagement levels declined worldwide. Despite the overwhelming adoption of wearable fitness tracker (WFT) devices, it continues to be unclear as to their effect on PA engagement or PA motivation. Building on past research, we hypothesized that combining a WFT with a known impactful intervention, motivational interviewing (MI) would positively influence both self-determination theory (SDT) motivation and PA during an unprecedented global emergency. A four-group randomized controlled study was conducted amongst 40 inactive adults over a 12-week period during the COVID-19 pandemic. One group (WFT, n = 10) received a wearable fitness tracker, a second (MI, n=10) received bi-weekly MI sessions, a third (WFT+, n=10) received both, and a fourth (Education, n=10) received basic PA education. Outcome measures for motivation and PA were measured though an online survey before and after the 12-week period.

Temperature Variation During Meditative Practices

The practitioner is in complete rest for the time of the measure, and only mental activity is carried out. The COVID-19 pandemic process has created the need for social isolation and quarantine, and restrictions have occurred in access to healthcare services. In this process, the trend towards alternative methods that will provide access to health services and the need for telehealth services has increased. As a result of this, when we look at the literature, evaluation methods used in the clinical environment in physiotherapy are frequently encountered in tele-evaluation. There is a need for validity and reliability studies of these evaluation methods in terms of tele-assessment. This study was designed to determine the validity and reliability of trunk endurance and functional capacity tests applied by the tele-assessment method in healthy individuals.
