Safety and Efficacy Study of Qualia Mind on Cognition in a Healthy Population

This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study designed to investigate the safety and efficacy of Qualia Mind on cognition in a healthy adult population between ages of 18 and 75 years. Qualia Mind is a nootropic supplement containing a complex mixture of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, choline donors, and herbal ingredients. These components have been demonstrated to exert their cognitive effects through distinct mechanisms of action involving cholinergic, glutamatergic, and dopaminergic receptor signalling; neuroplasticity; and modulation of cell membrane structure and metabolism.

Mass Balance Study of [14C]-Orvepitant Oral Solution in Healthy Male Subjects

This is a single centre, open-label, non-randomised study to assess the mass balance recovery, absorption, metabolism, and excretion of a single oral dose of [14C]-orvepitant in healthy male subjects. It is planned to enrol 6 subjects. Each subject will receive a single dose of 30 mg [14C] orvepitant containing not more than (NMT) 3.7 megabecquerel (MBq) [14C], administered as an oral solution in the fasted state. Subjects will be admitted in the evening on the day prior to [14C]-orvepitant administration and will be dosed in the morning following an overnight fast. It is planned that subjects will remain resident in the clinical unit until 168 hours post-dose (Day 8) when they will be discharged from the clinical unit. Through the resident period samples (blood, urine, faeces) will be collected and analysed for mass balance, total radioactivity, orvepitant levels. Metabolite profiling and ID will also be performed.

Subjects are randomly assigned in double-blind manner to one of five conditions: 1) 2 grams Advanced Ambrotose, 2) 4 grams Advanced Ambrotose, 3) 2 grams Ambrotose LIFE, 4) 4 grams Ambrotose LIFE, or 5) placebo. Subjects ingested their assigned condition daily for eight weeks.

Studying the Role of Brain Molecules for Decision Making

The aim of the present project is to elucidate the neuropharmacological mechanisms underlying value (choice preference) and attention (choice randomness) processing in humans. More specifically, the investigators test whether dopaminergic, noradrenergic and cholinergic interventions affect neural and behavioral processing of valuation and attention during decision-making. The investigators do this by up-regulating dopaminergic, noradrenergic or cholinergic neurotransmission pharmacologically through administration of methylphenidate, reboxetine, or nicotine. We test the hypothesis that methylphenidate, reboxetine, or nicotine reduce choice randomness and that this effect is underpinned by an effect on attention and/or value processing.

Pharmacokinetics of Omega-3 Monoglycerides

North American diets have insufficient omega-3 fatty acid (n-3 FA) content. Consequently, they display low plasma concentrations of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), the two main long chain n-3 FA. A quick and easy way to increase the level of dietary n-3 FA is to take supplements. However, people report side effects in using the currently available supplements, such as gastrointestinal discomfort, nausea and gastric reflux; especially those where EPA and DHA are esterified as ethyl esters (EE). Moreover, EE supplements are less absorbed compared to other esterification forms, such as mono-, di- or triglycerides. The objective of this study was to test the pharmacokinetics of a new n-3 FA supplementation formulation rich in FAs esterified as monoacylglyceride (MAG).
