Filter by:The current study aims to test whether an online two-week positive psychological intervention can increase positive affect in college students. Participants will be recruited from the University of Pittsburgh undergraduate subject pool. Students will be ineligible if they are under the age of 18; currently prescribed medications for cardiac arrythmias; have a history of heart surgery, heart attack, or stroke; are currently pregnant; or currently have symptoms consistent with COVID-19. This study includes an active control arm and an intervention arm. Both arms will be required to complete writing activities every other day for two weeks. Participants in the control arm will list their daily activities, while participants in the intervention arm will complete various positive psychology activities. Questionnaires assessing mood, emotional well-being, social functioning and a few health behaviors will be administered pre- and post-intervention. The investigators aim to recruit 250 undergraduate students with the hope that at least 50 participants per group will complete the entire study.
The primary purpose of this study was to examine the acute effects of a multi-ingredient pre-workout supplement versus an ergogenic dose of caffeine (6 mg/kg) on energy expenditure during low-intensity exercise. The effects of these substances on substrate utilization, gas exchange, and psychological factors were also investigated. Twelve males (mean ± SD: age = 22.8 ± 2.4 years) completed three bouts of 60-min of treadmill exercise at 4.8-6.4 km/hr on separate days after consuming a pre-workout supplement, 6 mg/kg of caffeine, or placebo in a randomized fashion. The pre-workout and caffeine supplements resulted in significantly greater energy expenditure (p < 0.001, p = 0.006, respectively), VO2 (p < 0.001, p = 0.007, respectively), VCO2 (p = 0.006, p = 0.049, respectively), and VE (p < 0.001, p = 0.007, respectively), but not rates of fat or carbohydrate oxidation or respiratory exchange ratio compared to placebo (collapsed across condition). In addition, the pre-workout supplement increased feelings of alertness (p = 0.015) and focus (p = 0.005) 30-minutes post-ingestion and decreased feelings of fatigue (p = 0.014) during exercise compared to placebo (collapsed across condition). Thus, the pre-workout supplement increased energy expenditure and measures of gas exchange to the same extent as 6 mg/kg of caffeine with concomitant increased feelings of alertness and focus and decreased feelings of fatigue.

The purpose of this study is to test the safety and tolerability of LY3819253 when it is given by injection just under the skin to healthy participants. Blood tests will be done to check how much LY3819253 is in the bloodstream and how long the body takes to eliminate it. Participation could last up to 16 weeks and may include up to six visits to the study center, with a one-week overnight stay.

The purpose of the trial is to investigate the physiological, mental, social health effect among individuals with low physical mobility participating in one of the two pre-existing initiatives: the Danish 'Team Twin' and Cycling Without Age. In these, the individuals with low physical mobility are moved by and together with by normal functioning volunteers. Based on the above, this research project will answer the following research questions: 1. Does movement by others improves the quality of life (QOL) among individuals with low physical mobility 2. Does movement by others improves the physiological health among individuals with low physical mobility 3. Does moving individuals with low physical mobility improve health among normal functioning individuals (i.e volunteer runners and pilots)? 4. How does participation in the physical activity initiatives influence well-being, relations and attitudes among relatives (to the disabled individuals) and employees at nursing homes?
Approximately 12 adults subjects will be enrolled. Participants will be randomized to one of two directly observed dosing regimens with 2mg adenine 5+ (five stable-labeled nitrogens) as follows: 1 dose/week followed by 4 doses/week OR 3 doses/week followed by 7 doses/week. Each dose regimen will have a duration of approximately 12 weeks and will be separated by a 12-week washout period for a total study duration of approximately 36 weeks. Dried blood spots (DBS) and whole blood will be collect weekly. Urine will be collected less frequently, about every 2 weeks. The ratio of ATP 5+ to naturally occurring ATP 2+ is dried blood spots will be the primary outcome, as adenine is phosphorylated to ATP in red blood cells. Breakdown products will be measured in urine. Investigators will allow flexibility in terms of which days are used for dosing for the 1, 3, and 4 dose(s)/week regimens. This is scientifically justified as investigators expect a 20-30 day half-life of ATP 5+ in DBS.
The primary purpose of this study is to assess humoral immune responses of 3 dose levels of Ad26.COV2.S administered intramuscularly (IM) as a 2-dose schedule (56 days apart); Ad26.COV2.S administered IM as a single vaccination; safety and reactogenicity of Ad26.COV2.S administered IM as a 2-dose or a single-dose schedule in adults (18-65 years or older) and to assess the safety and reactogenicity of Ad26.COV2.S, administered IM as single dose in adolescents (12-17 years) and to test both compressed and expanded 2-dose schedules of Ad26.COV2.S (28 and 84 days apart) in adults (18-55 years and 65 years or older).
