Task-dependent Effects of TMS on the Neural Biomarkers of Episodic Memory

Background: Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) of the brain has been used to change the activity and connections in the brain to improve memory. Researchers are interested in how these brain changes cause memory improvements and how activity at the time of stimulation may change the effects of TMS. Objective: To learn how brain stimulation can be used to improve memory. Eligibility: Healthy adults ages 18-40 Design: Participants will be screened with a medical record review. Participants will have 3 study visits. At visit 1, participants will have a physical exam and will talk about their health. They will have magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The MRI scanner is a metal cylinder surrounded by a strong magnetic field. During the MRI, participants will lie on a table that can slide in and out of the scanner. A coil will be placed over the head. Participants will be asked to keep their eyes focused on a small cross on a computer screen inside the scanner. The scanner makes loud noises. Participants will get earplugs. At visits 2 and 3, participants will have TMS and perform tasks. For TMS, a wire coil encased in plastic is held on the scalp. When the coil is triggered, a brief electrical current passes through the coil and creates a magnetic pulse that stimulates the brain. During TMS, an electroencephalogram (EEG) will record brain activity. For the EEG, a cloth cap with electrodes is fitted on the participant s head. Participants will complete a memory task and a spatial processing task. They will also complete surveys about their mental state. Participation will last 2-3 weeks. ...

Safety of RNS60 in Large Vessel Occlusion Stroke Patients Undergoing Endovascular Thrombectomy

A Phase II, randomized, blinded, placebo-controlled, parallel group study with patients experiencing a large vessel occlusion acute ischemic stroke who are selected for endovascular revascularization. Participants will be given a 48 h infusion of either 0.5 mL/kg/h RNS60 (up to a maximum of 60 mL/h), 1 mL/kg/h RNS60 (up to a maximum of 120 mL/h), or 1 mL/kg/h (up to a maximum of 120 mL/h) placebo (normal saline) starting within 30 minutes of consent after confirmation of candidacy for endovascular thrombectomy.

Novelty, Conformity and Trust in COVID-19 Vaccines

Despite their established benefits as public measures, vaccines continue to be treated with suspicion by many people, in the US and other parts of the world (Larson et al. 2014; Olive et al. 2018; Lazarus et al. 2020). Since the success of vaccines depends on their high uptake level (Anderson and May, 1985; Fine et al. 2011; Fontanet and Cauchemez, 2020), identifying factors that influence low trust and decision-making in relation to vaccines is essential in order to combat diseases such as the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). The investigators study factors that could potentially influence public's trust in COVID-19 vaccines through a large-scale online field experiment. The investigators conduct an online survey of 32,400 subjects in nine countries (USA, Brazil, Mexico, China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Germany, and UK). The investigators study how willingness to receive the COVID-19 vaccine is affected by (1) the "novelty" of the vaccine technology (conventional vs. RNA vaccines), and (2) the adoption rate of the new vaccine in the country. That is - the impact of controversial science and the force of conformity on the rates of adoption. The latter will also allow us to calculate the "tipping point" adoption rate for each country that will allow the country to achieve herd immunity from COVID-19. The investigators have four hypotheses, below. H1 (Conformity): People are more willing to receive a vaccine as the cumulative adoption rate in their community increases. H2 (Novelty): People are less willing to get a COVID-19 vaccine that uses the new RNA technology, compared to a conventional vaccine H3 (Interaction between H1 and H2): As the cumulative adoption rate in a community increases, the difference between people's willingness to adopt conventional rather than RNA vaccines decreases. H4 (Tipping Point): Each country will have a different "tipping point". This is the cumulative adoption rate after which unvaccinated people are significantly more willing to get the vaccine. Countries that have a higher "honesty index" will have the tipping point appear at a lower cumulative adoption rate. Please note that this study is not a clinical trial. This study is a randomized controlled trial in the form of an online survey.

The goal of this project is to develop a multicomponent stigma reduction intervention to address intrapersonal (individual) stigma regarding Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). The intervention will address this cost/benefit evaluation among individuals known to face intersecting stigma of OUD and African American race, with treatment elements chosen explicitly to increase the value of treatment using salient forms of reward, and to ease perceived costs through explicit services in an effort to encourage the occurrence of the first treatment visit for OUD.
