Pragmatic RCT Comparing Aripiprazole, Olanzapine and Haloperidol in the Treatment of Schizophrenia

The GiSAS study is a multi-centre randomized clinical trial that will involve about 80 italian community psychiatric services in Italy and will recruit 800 patients affected by schizophrenia. In a sample of schizophrenic outpatients, it is hypothesized that there are significant differences in the overall tolerability and effectiveness of aripiprazole, olanzapine and haloperidol at 12 months. It is a pragmatic trial. Thus, participants are selected to represent a broad range of "real-world" patients, all treatment medications are non-blinded and after randomization, the assigned drugs will be prescribed according to usual care practice. The measure for effectiveness is retention of patients on the assigned treatment. The measure for tolerability is the onset of metabolic syndrome.

A Study of Intravenously Administered Tamiflu (Oseltamivir) in Patients Over 13 Years of Age With Influenza

This partially randomized, multi-center parallel-group study will evaluate the safety, pharmacokinetics and the effect on viral load and viral shedding of Tamiflu (Oseltamivir) in patients with influenza. Adult and adolescent patients will be randomized to receive either 100 mg or 200 mg of study drug intravenously every 12 hours. Investigators and patients are blinded to knowledge of the assigned dose of Tamiflu. There is an option to convert to oral Tamiflu after 6 intravenous infusions. The anticipated time on study treatment is 5 days, with an optional treatment extension of a further 5 days, if necessary. There will be a non-randomized, open-label treatment group for patients with moderate/severe renal impairment or renal failure. Intravenous dose levels and frequency will be adjusted appropriately to their renal situation.

The investigators evaluated 250 male, type 2 diabetic patients, aged 18-80 years. They will undergo IIEF (International Index of Erectile Function), SAS of Zung (self-rating anxiety state)and SDS of Zung (self-rating depression scale)questionnaires. The investigators will evaluate anthropometric and biochemical parameters, dysautonomic function index, IMT (Intima Media Thickness) index, and fundus oculi examen. Furthermore, the investigators will perform MNSI (Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument) and NDS (Neuropathy Disability Score)questionnaires.

Evaluation of different glycemic variations between the dialysis period and non-dialysis period in two groups: nondiabetic and diabetic patients undergone two different hemodialysis methods. Thirty-six patients, males and females, aged 50-80 years, with end stage renal disease (ESRD) will undergo hemodialysis and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). The investigators will evaluate also inflammation markers before and after the different hemodialysis methods.

Myo-inositol in Obese Pregnant Women

Myo-Inositol is classified as a member of the vitamin B complex. It is a constituent of living cells and is widespread in many food. It is involved in a number of biological processes, including insulin signal transduction, resulting in modulating insulin sensitivity. This is a prospective, randomized, double center, placebo-controlled study. Two hundred and twenty obese pregnant women will be included in the trial and, after an informed consent, will assume randomly 2 g of myo-inositol twice a day or placebo from 12-13th weeks gestation until delivery. Then,they will perform an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) at 24-28th weeks gestation. Records about delivery (gestational age, neonatal weight...) will be registered.
