To evalute the effects of this educational programme, the dietary habits, the sleep hours, the hours spent in sedentary behaviors (tv, smartphone) and the hours of physical activity will be evaluate at the baseline and at the end of the programme.

Pollutants in the Atherosclerotic Plaque and Cardiovascular Events

Air pollution, microplastics and climate change pose serious public health risks. In recent years, air pollution has been associated with an increased risk of morbidity, all-cause mortality, cardio-respiratory-related mortality, and cancer. A growing body of evidence has recently confirmed a direct association between particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter less than or equal to 2.5 mm (PM2.5), Ozone (O3) and aromatic polycyclic hydrocarbons with all-cause mortality irrespective of social context and geographic or economic disparities, suggesting a causal relationship between the two factors. The effects of air and environmental pollutants on public health have been observed also for short-term exposure to rapid increases in particulate matter. High PM 2.5 values have also been associated with a higher rate of atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease expressed by high calcium score values, with the elderly, male and diabetic patients being at greater risk. To date, however, the pathophysiological basis of the relationship between air pollutants, and long-term events remains speculative, and there is no evidence that can correlate the concentration of environmental pollutants directly with anatomical-pathological and/or biomolecular alterations. In this study the investigators will assess the presence and the burden of pollutants within the carotid plaques from patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy with pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and electronic microscopy. Plaque stability will be explored trough molecular markers. Participants will be followed up for a composite of myocardial infarction, stroke, and all-cause mortality to evaluate whether the presence and the abundance of pollutants are associated with the development of the outcome through adjusted Cox regressions.

The prevalence of obesity and metabolic disturbances is worryingly increasing worldwide, therefore the study of their pathophysiology is extremely important to find new strategies for their treatment. Obesity has a strong impact not only on the metabolism of the patients, but also may impact hormonal, inflammatory and immune profile, and profoundly influence the daily life of the patients. Weight loss may determine an amelioration of these parameters, but the impact of the diet composition aimed to weight loss on them has not been profoundly studied yet. The aim of our research project is to study the effects of a ketogenic diet in comparison with an isocaloric balanced diet on weight loss and anthropometric parameters, quality of life, hormone profile, sleep, sexual function, circadian rhythm, inflammatory and immunological parameters in obese patients.

Hyaluronic Acid Treatment of the Post-extraction Tooth Socket Healing in Subjects With Diabetes Mellitus Type 2

The aim of the present split-mouth study was to investigate the effect of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) in improving the post-extraction tooth socket healing in subjects with diabetes mellitus type 2. The null hypothesis was that HA can significantly improve the post extractive healing of diabetic patients compared with no treatment. 36 patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 requiring bilateral extraction of the homologous, not included, teeth were enrolled. After the extractions carried out in the same appointment, following the split-mouth design of the study, one site was randomly assigned to the test (T) group, while the other one was assigned to the control group (C). T group included: Post-operative application of Hyaluronic acid gels 3 times per day C group included: no treatment. Patients were then followed after 3, 7,14 and 21 days and the healing of each socket was evaluated and compared between the 2 groups.

Inguinal Lymphadenectomy for Penile Cancer

The aim of the present study is to prospectively compare oncological and functional results of penile radical inguinal lymphadenectomy performed with an open versus videolaparoscopic technique. The main questions it aims to answer are: evaluated the oncological and functional results of inguinal lymphadenectomy performed with minimally invasive techniques using videolaparoscopic instruments vs open inguinal lymphadenectomy according to the standard technique. Participants will undergo treatment of the primary lesion and contextual inguinal lymphadenectomy: - Groin 1: open lymphadenectomy performed by a surgical team with extensive experience in traditional surgery - Groin 2: laparoscopic lymphadenectomy performed by a surgical team with extensive experience in minimally invasive surgery. The results of these procedures will be prospectively collected and compared.
