Analysis of monitored clinically parameters during the course of labor is a seldom studied area in Taiwan and worldwide. Important monitored parameters include, fetal heartbeat, uterine contractions, oxygen saturation and blood pressure, among others.1 During labor, uterine contractions can cause pain.3 This pain may be measured using a visual analogue scale (VAS).2 The pain from uterine contractions promotes the release of hormones including cortisol which can cause decreased or irregular contractions and possibly prolong labor.3 This study aims to study the association between monitored clinical parameters and pain in women in Taiwan during labor in order to increase the understanding to safe childbirth.

Effects of Genotypes on Interferon Signaling in Chronic Hepatitis C

The objective of this pilot project is to investigate the prognostic criteria for sensitivity of Chronic Hepatitis C (CHC) Genotype 1, patients to IFNa treatment. Signal transduction in peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) of control groups will be compared with that of CHC patients. For this study, 20 patients with Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection who are to undergo standard antiviral therapy and 10 healthy donors (significant others of the HCV subject) will be enrolled. Signal transduction will be studied in peripheral blood of CHC subjects before the treatment, after 1 and 3 months of treatment, and 4-6 months following the completion of treatment.

Prospective, randomized controlled trial to be performed at one center, of term and late preterm infants requiring resuscitation. Prenatal consent will be obtained. At randomization, babies will be resuscitated following Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) guidelines and ventilated using the T-piece resuscitator with either a Face Mask (FM) or Non-inflating supraglottic airway. Video will be collected during resuscitation as well as written documentation. Primary outcome will be time to spontaneous breathing, length of resuscitation, and need for endotracheal intubation.

It's hypothesized that a mean and range distance from the cavo-atrial junction to the area where there is complete loss of conductive tissue can be measured to better inform surgeons performing the Cox-Maze procedure. A patient scheduled for any cardiac surgery where visualization and mapping of cavo-atrial junction is possible could be entered into the study if they meet the inclusion/exclusion requirements.
