Determine whether the administration of Visbiome after colorectal surgery has any effect on anastomotic leak and local recurrence
The objective of the proposed research is to evaluate adult subjects currently taking phytocannabinoid Hemp-derived botanical supplements (HDS) during recovery from traumatic brain injury. This study seeks to answer whether subjects taking HDS formulations experience relief from self-reported symptoms or improved subjective well-being, sleep quality, cognitive benefits, side effects and/or quantifiable changes in brain state neuronal activity or stress biomarkers. We seek to answer whether regular users (once/week to multiple uses/day) of HDS experience signs of dependence, addiction or physiological withdrawal. To accomplish this we will use survey questions, quantitative EEG, cognitive testing and salivary biomarkers to determine the effectiveness of self-initiated HDS administration. In addition, we are interested in whether our objective measures allow us to understand why some people are responders to HDS health benefits while others are not.
There are no strategies developed post-stem cell transplant (SCT) for patients who receive allogenic SCT with a significant amount of blasts prior SCT. Novel strategies to treat relapsed AML/MDS and to reduce the incidence of relapse after allogeneic SCT are needed. This study is being done in patients with high-risk MDS or AML who undergo an allogeneic SCT. The study will have two arms, participants who receive an HLA-matched unrelated donor SCT (Arm A) or HLA- haploidentical SCT (Arm B). Following myeloablative conditioning (MAC), GVHD prophylaxis with post-transplantation cyclophosphamide (PTCy), tacrolimus and mycophenolate mofetil will be given per standard of care. At 40-60 days post SCT, If the patient has not had any evidence of Grade II-IV acute graft-versus-host-disease (aGVHD), Nivolumab will be given intravenously every 2 weeks for 4 cycles of consolidation or treatment with Nivolumab. Dose-escalation of Nivolumab will follow the standard 3+3 design where a maximum of three dose levels will be evaluated, with a maximum of 18 patients treated with nivolumab per arm. As the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of Nivolumab may differ between Arm A and Arm B, dose escalation of nivolumab in each arm will be followed separately following allogeneic SCT. Immunosuppression with tacrolimus will be continued during the cycles of PD-1 blockade to provide a moderate level of GVHD prophylaxis during consolidation or treatment with nivolumab.
This phase II trial studies the effect of nivolumab and ADI-PEG 20 before surgery in treating patients with liver cancer that can be removed by surgery (resectable). Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies, such as nivolumab, may help the body's immune system attack the cancer, and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. ADI-PEG 20 may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the proteins needed for cell growth. Giving nivolumab and ADI-PEG 20 before surgery may help control liver cancer.
NEVICOG is a single-center study evaluating neurovisual and radiological specificities in patients with visual snow syndrome (VSS) compared to a control population.
The objective of this observational study is to predict healing at 26 weeks after the first visit in patients affected by the first ulcer, by means of combined data monitoring of Laser Speckle Contrast Imaging (LSCI) and temperature measurements during patient visits in hospital. In order to achieve this objective, study aims to produce a logistic regression model and then evaluate its prognostic ability by means of the area under the curve (AUC) of the receiver-operating-characteristics (ROC) curve. Patients with diabetes mellitus and suffering from ulcer and receiving health care will undergo regular microcirculatory measurements including LSCI scans in and around the ulcer location and thermography.
The purpose of this study is to establish which dosing schedule of INfed (Iron dextrose) is superior for the treatment of iron deficient anemia.
Most General Surgery program directors have expressed the necessity to educate residents on the business aspect of medicine. However, the literature review did not produce any interventional studies directly addressing coding and documentation in General Surgery Residents. The purpose of this study is to address specific coding and documentation mistakes as identified by surgery coding analysts in the surgical department. Through this examination, we hope to provide residents with the necessary tools and framework for adequate documentation throughout their surgical careers.
This study adds an experimental treatment with another type of cells, called dendritic cells. It is hoped that these cells may stimulate the immune system to react against neuroblastoma in much the same way that vaccines cause the immune system to react to certain viruses and bacteria. The physicians conducting this study have observed from previous research that neuroblastoma cells can be recognized by the immune system, and that they can be destroyed by immune cells. The main goal of this study is to see if giving participants this additional anti-Neuroblastoma vaccine reduces the risk of relapse following the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant.
