Cannabidiol to Reduce Anxiety Reactivity

This study seeks to understand how cannabidiol (CBD) - a non-intoxicating chemical compound obtained from the Cannabis sativa plant - affects biological and stress-related responses that are believed to underlie anxiety disorders. This study will evaluate the effects of different doses of CBD on blood plasma levels of anandamide (a molecule in the brain that has been shown to help regulate stress responses; primary biological signature) and anxiety reactivity to a standardized stress task (secondary target) in an acute (4-day) dosing study (i.e., when steady state CBD levels have been reached). Approximately 60 subjects with social anxiety disorder (SAD), ages 18-70, will participate in this study. They will be assigned by chance to receive one of two doses of CBD (150 mg BID or 450 mg BID administered in two divided doses daily) or placebo (which resembles the study drug but has no active ingredients) BID for 3 days and on the morning of day 4. Knowledge gained from this study will help determine the therapeutic potential of CBD for anxiety.

Comparing Concussion Education Types

The purpose of this study is to determine if there are differences in knowledge, self-efficacy, and empathy surrounding concussions, as well as intent to report a concussion, after viewing concussion education (CrashCourse and Brain Fly-Through) in 2D versus in 3D. In this randomized study, all participants will receive two types of concussion education (CrashCourse and Brain Fly-Through). Participants will be randomized to the 2D or 3D (Virtual Reality) group, and will experience both concussion educations in that modality (either 2D or 3D).

The goal of this observational study is to determine the feasibility of renal Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) monitoring in the newborn nursery for newborns at low risk of coarctation of the aorta (CoA). The main questions it aims to answer are: - whether continuous renal NIRS monitoring is feasible; - whether NIRS monitoring results in higher nursing and parent/caregiver satisfaction than current standard monitoring; and, - whether participants who develop CoA will spend a smaller proportion of time within the normal range than patients who do not have CoA. Participants will be observed through continuous renal oxygenation monitoring with NIRS.

IDO and PD-L1 Peptide Based Immune-Modulatory Therapeutic (IO102-IO103) in Combination With Pembrolizumab for BCG-Unresponsive or Intolerant, Non-Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer

This phase I trial tests the safety and side effects of a PD-L1/IDO peptide vaccine (IO102-IO103) in combination with pembrolizumab in treating patients with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer. IO102-IO103 is a novel IDO and PD-L1 peptide based immune-modulatory therapeutic. It is designed to activate the patient's own immune cells (called T-cells) to fight the tumor and stop the tumor cells escaping from the body's immune system. IO102-IO103 works to directly kill tumor cells and remove the body's immune suppressive cells, which are cells that prevent the immune system from fighting the tumor. Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies, such as pembrolizumab, may help the body's immune system attack the cancer, and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Giving IO102-IO103 in combination with pembrolizumab may make tumor cells more visible/recognizable to the immune system.

Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) is a serious complication of ascites that can lead to death and can be described as an acute infection of ascites without any certain source of infection SBP is considered the most common infection in cirrhotic patients with ascites. SBP is diagnosed by the presence of ≥250 polymorphonuclear leukocyte (PMNL)/mm3 in the ascetic fluid in absence of surgical and treatable causes of intra-abdominal infections . SBP has many pictures of clinical presentation SBP can be asymptomatic and patients pass unnoticed or can discovered accidentally may have local symptoms and signs of peritonitis such as abdominal pain, and tachypnea or may present with signs of deteriorated liver function in form of gastrointestinal bleeding, shock and renal failure An increasing amount of studies have demonstrated that peripheral blood neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) are indicators of systematic inflammatory response and are widely investigated as useful predictors of the clinical outcomes in various diseases .

The goal of this Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) is to test the effectiveness of a mobile, web-based diabetes prevention program for Hispanics living in rural communities. The main question it aims to answer is: Does STEPS, a mobile, web-based diabetes prevention program, reduce the risk of Type II Diabetes in rural Hispanics compared to usual care? Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the mobile STEPS intervention or usual care for a total of three months. Researchers will compare percentage weight loss, and additional outcome measures in participants of both groups at months three and six post-baseline.
