Docetaxel and Cyclophosphamide Compared to Anthracycline-Based Chemotherapy in Treating Women With HER2-Negative Breast Cancer

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy work in different ways to stop the growth of breast cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving the drugs in different combinations may kill more breast cancer cells. Giving combination chemotherapy after surgery may kill any tumor cells that remain after surgery. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying different combination chemotherapy regimens and their side effects and comparing how well they work in treating women with non-metastatic breast cancer.

TB mHealth Study - Use of Cell Phones to Improve Compliance in Patients on LTBI Treatment

This study will examine the impact of use of mobile phones and text messaging on adherence to treatment for patients with latent TB infection. Half (50%) of the 350 anticipated study participants will receive weekly text messages inquiring on their health status in relation to their prescribed treatment, while the other half (50%) will not receive weekly text messages at all. Medical adherence will be assessed by monthly blood-work, clinic visits and by interviewing patients at each of these visits. The investigators hypothesis is that enhanced communication with a health care provider, via a structured cell phone SMS text messaging based program (WelTel), will result in a 15% improvement in the proportion of patients who successfully complete their LTBI treatment regimens.

Intervention Trial of Culturally-Appropriate Decision Aids for Smoking Cessation

Despite the establishment of various smoking cessation methods, including pharmacological intervention, only a small proportion of smokers who visit doctors choose to receive such assistance. Such under-utilization is especially apparent in some cultures, as in the case of Korea, where a government survey showed that only 0.5% of current or formal smoker reported they had been prescribed smoking cessation medication. Shame in asking for help for an addictive disorder has been recognized as one of the most recognized cultural barrier in Asian-American population. It is clear that culturally focused studies on smoking cessation is warranted. Patient decision aids are tools that help people become involved in decision making by providing information about the options and outcomes and by clarifying personal values. Patient decision aids have been developed to help patients decide whether to quit smoking or not, or whether to use smoking medication or not. However, such previous studies have only been focused on western populations. The main purpose of this study is to develop a culturally appropriate decision aid for smoking cessation for the Korean population, as well as evaluate its effect on their decision to use smoking cessation medication. The investigators expect that culturally tailored smoking cessation decision aids would increase knowledge about efficacy of smoking cessation, make people have more positive attitudes toward smoking cessation medication, encourage people to discuss about smoking cessation medication with their physicians. Ultimately the investigators expect it would increase usage of smoking cessation medication and enhance the quitting rate of smoking, which is a very important clinical issue.

Strong and consistent evidence have shown that overweight, including obesity, is an important risk factor for the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in adults. Several studies have found an association between overweight in childhood and increased risk of morbidity and mortality later in life. The prevalence of overweight in children and adolescents has increased in recent years, and consequently it is important to identify effective approaches in the prevention and treatment of overweight in young individuals. Approaches such as resident weight loss camps have shown promising results. A residential camp setting provides an opportunity to increase and control exposure to, for instance, particular foodstuffs, beverages and physical activity opportunities. However, well-designed studies with sufficient participants are still needed on the reversal of overweight in childhood with increased focus on documenting predictors of behavior changes associated with decreases in overweight. This study is carried through as a randomized controlled trial which investigates the effect of participating in a 6 week health promoting resident for overweight fifth grade children camp followed by 46 weeks of family support. The study hypothesis is that participating in a 6 week resident camp and a following period of 46 weeks of child and family support will induce a reduction in body mass index (BMI). In addition it is expected that the intensity and duration intervention program is sufficient to cause changes in physiological parameters related to a reduced risk of lifestyle diseases.

The secondary aims are to determine the overall survival and the treatment safety profile for these patients in second-line treatment with pazopanib. The exploratory aim is to determine the correlation between biomarkers in patient blood and tumor samples, and the clinical results obtained with pazopanib.

Evaluate The Utility Of 124I-cG250 for The Early Detection Of Response to Therapy In Patients With Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma

Usually, doctors monitor kidney cancer with CT scans to measure the size of tumors. Sometimes, even when a drug is working, it can take several months before the effects are seen on a regular CT scan. The purpose of this study is to see if a new kind of scan, called 124I-cG250 PET/CT, can determine response to sunitinib or pazopanib earlier than a regular CT scan. Research has shown that certain proteins in the blood, called antibodies, can attach themselves to cancer cells without binding to normal cells. In this study, an antibody is used called chimeric G250 (cG250) that is attached to a radioactive isotope. The radioactive isotope in this study is Iodine-124 (124I). If cG250 has attached to tumors in the body, 124I shows up on the PET scan.
