The objective of this retrospective/prospective enrollment and prospective follow-up consecutive series PMCF study is to collect data confirming safety, performance and clinical benefits of the Comprehensive Primary Micro Stem and Comprehensive Anatomic Versa-Dial Titanium Humeral Heads when used for primary and revision total shoulder arthroplasty (implants and instrumentation) at 1,3,5,7 and 10 years*. Comprehensive Primary Micro Stem and Comprehensive Anatomic Versa-Dial Titanium Humeral Heads have been on the market since 2007, but have insufficient data to support 10 years of clinical history. Therefore, a prospective aspect to the study will be utilized in order to collect long-term data.

Minimizing Facial Nerve Stimulation in Cochlear Implants

This study aims to understand how to manipulate the electrical stimulation from the cochlear implant to maximize hearing stimulation and minimize facial stimulation. It is know from animal data that the hearing and facial nerves have different sensitivities to things like electrical pulse shape, its pattern, and its duration. It is very unclear however if this applies to human cochlear implant patients, and what the optimal parameters are to selectively stimulate the hearing nerve in humans. The outcomes of this study will be used to more selectively program some patients with severe facial nerve cross stimulation and to inform the development of new types of implant stimulation.

Opioids and Social Support Enhanced Extinction Effects

University of California, Los Angeles researchers will recruit healthy participants (age 18-35) to participate in a study examining whether the administration of naltrexone, an opioid antagonist, eliminates the ability of social support figure reminders to enhance fear extinction--a process during which a threatening cue is learned to not predict a negative or threatening outcome (i.e., electric shock) by being repeatedly presented in the absence of that outcome. After undergoing an email screening, a telephone screening, an in lab screening, and a health screening, 60 participants will be enrolled in the study. During the experiment, 30 participants will be administered naltrexone and 30 participants will be administered placebo (both participants and experimenters will be blind to condition) before undergoing a fear extinction procedure in which threatening cues--cues that predict electric shock--will be paired with either an image of a social support figure (provided by participants) or a second threatening cue. These pairings will be presented repeatedly in the absence of shock in order for fear extinction to occur. Participants will return for a follow-up test to determine if fear extinction was successful.

Efficacy of Personalizing Cognitive Remediation for Schizophrenia by Targeting Impairments in Early Auditory Processing

The primary aim of this study is to provide confirmation that Cognitive Remediation (CR) for schizophrenia, when personalized based on pre-treatment assessment of early auditory processing ability, facilitates improved cognitive and functional outcomes. Additional aims of this study address the mechanisms of treatment effect. The study uses a repeated-measures randomized trial design. Enrollment will be by invitation, open to individuals receiving services at select community behavioral health facilities where CR is offered. Clients who are eligible for the service, who agree to participate in research and who meet inclusion/exclusion criteria will be assessed on outcome measures and categorized via performance on the Tone Matching (TM) test, as EAP impaired (EAP-) or EAP intact (EAP+). Subsequently, EAP- and EAP+ subgroups will be randomized to either (1) Brain Basics (BB; n = 100), an EAP-enhanced CR approach or (2) Brain Training (BT; n = 100), a routine CR approach. Participants will be invited to participate in a second pre-treatment assessment to measure electrophysiologic responses to auditory stimuli. All participants will be scheduled to repeat outcome measure assessments after treatment and after a follow-up period. The EAP- group receiving BB will be invited to repeat electrophysiological paradigms post-treatment to investigate mechanisms of change related to the CR intervention. Verbal learning will be the primary outcome with functional capacity the secondary outcome. EEG is exploratory and will examine neurophysiologic markers of need for and response to EAP training.
