The purpose of this research study is to determine how multiple myeloma responds when the study drug vorinostat is added to the standard treatment of bortezomib and pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (PLD). After participants complete the three drug combination and if their multiple myeloma has decreased, the investigators also want to learn what effects (both good and bad) when vorinostat and bortezomib are given to people with multiple myeloma over a longer period of time. This type of treatment is called 'Maintenance Therapy'.
This randomized phase III trial studies how well acetyl-L-carnitine hydrochloride works compared to a placebo in preventing peripheral neuropathy in patients with recurrent ovarian epithelial cancer, primary peritoneal cancer, or fallopian tube cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Acetyl-L-carnitine hydrochloride may prevent or lessen peripheral neuropathy caused by chemotherapy. It is not yet known whether acetyl-L-carnitine hydrochloride is more effective compared to a placebo in preventing peripheral neuropathy caused by chemotherapy.
The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of NanoDOX™ Hydrogel in conjunction with serial wound debridement and irrigation on the healing rates of open traumatic orthopedic and soft tissue wounds when compared to a serial wound debridement and irrigation alone in patients receiving negative pressure wound therapy/vacuum assisted closure (NPWT/VAC) with reticulated open cell foam (ROCF) dressings.
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) encompasses two major forms of chronic intestinal disorders, Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis (UC). Diagnosis is based on several macroscopic and histologic features including patterns of inflammation, crypt abscesses and granulomas. Confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE) is rapidly emerging as a valuable tool for gastrointestinal endoscopic imaging, enabling the endoscopist to obtain an "optical biopsy" of the gastrointestinal mucosa during the endoscopic procedure. The main objective of this study is to determine endoscopic and endomicroscopic features of mucosal healing in patients with IBD.
The purpose of this study is to determine the change from baseline in HCV Ribonucleic acid (RNA) on Day 4 following three days of dosing with BMS-929075 in chronically genotype subtype 1a and 1b HCV infected subjects
This research is examining whether an 8-week online nutritional programming based on a Mediterranean diet can achieve meaningful increase intake of a Mediterranean based diet and improvements in measures of body weight and laboratory measures of oxidative stress, a risk marker for cardiovascular disease. This study will also examine whether weekly short support and communication from a medical assistant (MA) in a primary care setting in addition to the online program will result in better program adherence and have a positive impact on health.
Innovative advances in rehabilitation technology have created a split-belt treadmill capable of providing a much needed intervention aimed at limiting mobility disability. When desynchronized, the split-belt treadmill imposes demands on each leg such that the central nervous system must adapt to the challenge. Based on preliminary data from our lab utilizing the split-belt treadmill, the investigators hypothesize this intervention can challenge the locomotor processes required for safe, efficient gait while concurrently providing an aerobic stimulus will produce favorable changes in physical function in older adults at risk for mobility disability.
RATIONALE: Lactobacillus bevis CD2 lozenge may help prevent symptoms of mucositis, or mouth sores, in patients receiving radiation therapy and chemotherapy. This therapy may improve the quality of life of patients with head and neck cancer. PURPOSE: This phase III trial studies how well Lactobacillus bevis CD2 lozenge prevents oral mucositis in patients with head and neck cancer who are being treated with cisplatin and radiation therapy. These results will be compared to results in patients using placebo lozenges.
Transplant coronary artery disease (TCAD) is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in pediatric heart transplantation (PHT). Understanding the pathophysiology and early detection along with attempted medical management are crucial in preventing advancement of the disease and retransplantation or mortality. Coronary angiogram, although routinely used is insensitive to detect early TCAD. Measurement of fractional flow reserve (FFR), coronary flow reserve (CFR) and index of microvascular resistance (IMR) using a doppler pressure and flow intracoronary wire may be more sensitive in evaluating the integrity of coronary vasculature and thus detect pre clinical TCAD. To the best of the investigators knowledge, measurement of these parameters has not been previously reported in PHT.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether ulipristal acetate is effective in the treatment of females with anemia associated with uterine leiomyomas. The safety of this product will also be evaluated.
