RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. St. John's wort may interfere with the effectiveness of chemotherapy. It is not yet known if chemotherapy is more effective with or without St. John's Wort in treating solid tumors. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to compare the effectiveness of docetaxel with or without St. John's wort in treating patients who have solid tumors that cannot be removed by surgery.

Biological therapies use different ways to stimulate the immune system and stop tumor cells from growing. Combining chemotherapy with biological therapy may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase I/II trial is studying the side effects of giving chemotherapy together with biological therapy and to see how well they work in treating patients with stage II or stage III breast cancer.

PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy, peripheral stem cell transplantation, and donor lymphocyte infusion in treating women with stage IV breast cancer.

Monoclonal antibodies such as trastuzumab can locate tumor cells and either kill them or deliver tumor-killing substances to them without harming normal cells. PURPOSE: Phase I/II trial to study the effectiveness of chemotherapy and peripheral stem cell transplantation followed by trastuzumab in treating women who have metastatic breast cancer.
