Biofeedback Training on Shoulder Muscles Strength Post Mastectomy

Start date: January 1, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

PURPOSE:The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effect of biofeedback on shoulder muscles strength post mastectomy. BACKGROUND: - The most common complications following mastectomy are pain, ipsilateral lymphedema of the upper limb (UL), reduced range of motion (ROM) of the shoulder, flexion and abduction is limited to 90°, and external rotation is limited to 40°, and there are postural changes - One of the most common complications after breast cancer surgery is a functional limitation of the upper body. Up to 67% of breast cancer patients experience arm or shoulder impairment, including pain, numbness, loss of strength, and reduced ROM, after surgery - Shoulder problems in breast cancer patients affect their daily activities, such as pulling a sweater overhead, fastening a bra, zipping up a back zipper, reaching overhead, and carrying heavy bags. - Biofeedback is a mind-body technique in which individuals learn how to modify their physiology for the purpose of improving physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Much like physical therapy, biofeedback training requires active participation on the part of patients and often regular practice between training sessions. Clinical biofeedback may be used to manage disease symptoms as well as to improve overall health and wellness through stress management training. Research has shown that biofeedback interventions are efficacious in treating a variety of medical conditions, and many Americans are turning to biofeedback and other less traditional therapies for their (Dana et al., 2010). HYPOTHESES: null hypothesis RESEARCH QUESTION: Does biofeedback give effect on shoulder muscles strength post mastectomy?

NCT ID: NCT06223022 Recruiting - Breast Cancer Clinical Trials

Nurse-led Proactive Telephone Follow-up With Patients After Completion of Primary Cancer Treatment

Start date: January 20, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this randomized study is to test and evaluate nurse-led telephone follow-up intervention in patients primarily curatively treated for breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and prostate cancer. The main question aims to answer: Does this nurse-led telephone follow-up improve patients' quality of life? Participants in both groups will be asked to fill in questionnaires regularly. The intervention group will get a telephone follow-up at predetermined intervals, while the control group will get the care as usual. The investigators will compare intervention and control groups to see if predetermined regular nurse-led telephone follow-up improves quality of life.

Start date: February 1, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study was planned to determine the effect of music listened to during mammography screening on pain, anxiety and satisfaction.

The Characteristics, Treatment Patterns and Prognosis of Chinese Male Breast Cancer: A Real-world Study

Start date: August 1, 2021
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The goal of this observational study is to investigate the features in Chinese male breast cancer (MBC) patients. The main question it aims to answer is: - The characteristics, treatment patterns and prognosis of Chinese MBC patients. The clinicopathological characteristics, treatment information and follow-up data of participants will be extracted from a Chinese national database (Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology Breast Cancer database) and other involved Chinese centers. Researchers will investigate the features, survival associated factors and other relevant factors of this population.

NCT ID: NCT06220214 Recruiting - Breast Cancer Clinical Trials

Neoadjuvant Therapy and Contrast-enhanced Mammography for Early Stage Breast Cancer

Start date: March 23, 2024
Phase: Early Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to compare a special type of mammogram that uses a contrast agent called contrast-enhanced digital mammography with contrast-enhanced digital breast tomosynthesis (CEDM+CEDBT), with breast magnetic resonance imaging imaging (MRI) for predicting the effect of neoadjuvant chemotherapy on pathologic complete response rates. The device used to obtain CEDM+CEDBT images is called Siemens MAMMOMAT. This device produces two-dimensional (2D) images, as in a normal mammogram, but also collects additional images for digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT), which produces a three-dimensional (3D) image of the breast in the form of image slices. DBT allows the radiologist to "see through" the breast tissue for better detection and localization of breast cancer. By looking at both the CEDM images and the CEDBT images, a radiologist may be able to better detect residual breast cancer in a more cost-effective manner. Participation may last up to 18 weeks. Study procedures for this research are: - Undergoing 1-2 mammograms during and/or after your chemotherapy, but before primary breast surgery. - Before each mammogram, have a radiology technician inject a liquid contrast agent by inserting a needle into a vein. The chemotherapy port cannot be used to receive the contrast agent - Let the research team record information from your medical record related to your condition and the treatment you receive. - Give permission to collect leftover tissue from your diagnostic biopsy and breast surgery.

Evaluation of a Mindfulness Intervention to Prevent Chemo-brain in Women Preparing for Chemotherapy for Breast Cancer

Start date: November 13, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This clinical trial tests how well a mindfulness intervention helps the prevention of chemotherapy-brain (chemo-brain) in women preparing for chemotherapy for breast cancer. Cognitive dysfunction after chemotherapy has been well-documented. Factors that have been used to document and/or have been correlated with chemo brain include self-report and structural brain changes including volume loss. Mindfulness is a type of meditation practice that can be learned to support well-being and decrease stress. Mindfulness is an approach that helps the person increase their awareness of the present moment without judgement. There are data that mindfulness may increase attention and concentration which may prevent some of the side effects from chemotherapy

Developing an Internet-Delivered Sexual Health Program for Breast Cancer Survivors, SHINE Trial

SHINE
Start date: March 14, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this clinical trial is to develop an effective internet-delivered program to help breast cancer survivors manage cancer-related sexual concerns. This study is being done to find out if the study approach is better or worse than the usual approach to helping breast cancer survivors manage cancer-related sexual concerns. The usual approach is defined as care most cancer survivors get for their cancer-related sexual concerns. Participants will complete a questionnaire and if they qualify, they will be assigned to one of sixteen groups of participants. Groups will get access to various kinds of help through an Internet-delivered program called SHINE, which was designed and is run by researchers at the University of Virginia Center for Behavioral Health and Technology. All groups will get access to education about sexual health after cancer: either a standard education website or an enhanced education web program. Groups may also receive up to three additional web programs on: talking to your clinicians about sexual concerns, and/or talking to your partner about sexual concerns, and/or increasing intimacy. Participants are asked to complete the SHINE program within 12 weeks. After participants finish this 12-week period, the study team will ask them to complete a questionnaire to check in with the participant. The participant will be asked one additional time 12 weeks later to complete another questionnaire to see how the participant is doing. A participant will be in the study for 24 weeks.
