The Effect of Virtual Reality Glasses on Dental Anxiety Control

In this clinical study, it was aimed to evaluate whether there is a decrease in patient anxiety by applying virtual reality glasses, which are the product of new technology, during scaling and root planing treatment. Patients who required scaling and root planing treatment and also scored 9 or above according to the Dental Anxiety Scale were included in our study. Scaling and root planing was performed in a randomly selected intraoral quadrant of the patients, in the same way, with or without the use of virtual reality glasses. In the virtual reality glasses application, a video consisting of images of nature landscapes developed for patient rehabilitation was projected onto the screen in front of the patient's eyes. The Dental Anxiety Scale was reapplied after the completion of the treatment. In the intraoral quadrant where virtual reality glasses were used, it is expected that lower Corah Dental Anxiety Scale scores may be obtained after the treatment is completed, compared to the intraoral quadrant where the treatment is performed without glasses, thus reducing anxiety.

Project ASSET will explore the preliminary efficacy of interpersonal therapy, when compared with cognitive behavioral therapy, for reducing anxiety symptoms, preventing excess weight gain, and reducing cardio-metabolic risk in adolescent girls with above-average weight and elevated anxiety. As a pilot for a larger multi-site study, this trial will also test multi-site feasibility, acceptability, and intervention fidelity.

Effects of Open-label Placebos on COVID-related Psychological Health

This project aimed to test the efficacy of a telehealth-administered placebo without deception intervention on stress, anxiety, and depression related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants were randomized into two groups (open-label placebo vs. no-treatment control). All participants received information on the impact of COVID-19 on psychological health. Participants in the open-label placebo group were instructed to watch an informational video on the beneficial effects of placebos without deception, remotely interact with an experimenter, and take open-label placebo pills twice a day for two weeks. Participants in the no-treatment control group did not receive any intervention. Instead, participants met with an experimenter and reported on their psychological and physical health. The investigators predicted that the placebo without deception group would exhibit substantially reduced stress, depression, and anxiety compared to a no-treatment control group.

Foot Reflexology to Reduce Pain and Anxiety Before Chest Tube Removal

In open heart surgeries, patients experience severe pain due to tissue trauma, damage to intercostal nerves, and muscle spasm due to pulling tubes from the mediastinal space and between the pleural leaves pull during chet tube removal (CTR). When acute pain is not relieved, the patient develops emotional, psychological (eg post-traumatic stress disorder) and physical problems (eg chronic pain) after surgery. Since this situation negatively affects the healing process, it increases the anxiety level of the patients and decreases the comfort level. Reflexology is one of the non-pharmacological methods used in the management of pain and anxiety after open heart surgery The aim of this randomized controlled study was to identify the effect of foot reflexology applied before chest tube removal process on pain and anxiety level. This study will be done a randomized-controlled trial to test the intervention.

The Impact of Focused Ultrasound Thalamotomy of the Anterior Nucleus for Focal-Onset Epilepsy on Anxiety

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility, safety, and effects on anxiety of high intensity focused ultrasound ablation (FUSA) in patients suffering from treatment-refractory focal epilepsy and anxiety. FUSA is a non-invasive neurosurgical procedure that uses ultrasound waves, sent directly through the scalp and skull, to precisely target small abnormal areas of the brain. For this study, the targeted area of the brain is the anterior nucleus of the thalamus. This brain region may cause seizures and may also be involved in anxiety. The study will test if FUSA is safe and tolerated, and if it reduces anxiety and brain response to threat in patients with anxiety receiving the procedure for partial-onset epilepsy that is resistant to medications.

This study evaluates the safety and tolerability of PH94B with repeated dosing over a period of up to 12 months. Participating subjects will use PH94B up to 4 times a day when they encounter anxiety-provoking situations in daily life. Safety and tolerability of PH94B (≤ 4 doses per day up to 12 months) will be assessed and summarized during monthly visits from baseline (Visit 2) to end of treatment (Visit 14) in AEs, laboratory values, 12-lead ECGs, physical examinations, and vital sign assessments following exposure to PH94B.
