Filter by:Background: Epidemic Keratoconjunctivitis (EKC) is a form of adenoviral conjunctivitis. It is highly infectious disease mainly affect the outer eye surface and has a frequency to happen in epidemics especially in closed communities such as hospitals, schools and factories. purpose: The purpose of this study to compare between the modified and the ordinary method of treatment for EKC. Patients and methods: Three hundred fifty patients of EKC were enrolled in the study. The diagnosis was made by clinical picture and laboratory investigations. Group 1 had two hundred patients 120 males, 80 females (age from 18 to 60 years) were treated by the modified method and group 2 had one hundred fifty patients 100 males,50 females (age from 18 to 58 years) were treated with the ordinary method. The study was hold between November 2014 to October 2018 in Security forces Hospital, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Patients were followed up for 3 months up to 2 years. The main outcome were improvement in clinical picture and recovery.
Therapy for end-stage achalasia is under debate: comparative data on the long-term functional results of myotomy and oesophagectomy are lacking. The study aimed to compare the objective outcomes and quality of life after oesophageal myotomy and oesophagectomy. The study included 31 patients (57 years) who underwent the Heller-Dor procedure with verticalisation of the distal oesophagus (pull-down technique dedicated to sigmoid oesophagus treatment) and 29 patients (recurrence free, 64 years) (p=0.539) who underwent oesophagectomy for end-stage achalasia or for cancer, extracted from a database designed for prospective clinical research. The objective outcomes of treatment were evaluated with semi-quantitative scales investigating dysphagia, reflux symptoms and endoscopic oesophagitis. Quality of life was assessed with the SF-36 questionnaire.
Listening to "patient voices" in terms of symptoms, emotional status, satisfaction with care and information received, represents a major shift in medicine. It is in fact crucial in medical decision making and patient empowerment, especially in cancer care. Patient Reported Outcomes Measures (PROMs) and in particular electronically assessed PROMS (ePROMS), have been identified as potentially effective tools to systematically gather patient voices. Despite international extensive and growing interest, systematic PROM collection is not widely implemented in routine cancer care, due to barriers at various levels. The PATIENT VOICES is a project aimed at achieving a stepwise inclusion and integration of PROMs within routine clinical practice at the FONDAZIONE IRCCS ISTITUTO NAZIONALE TUMORI-MILANO. Phase I of the Patient Voices project (pilot and feasibility testing), will be the focus of the present study and its results will be the base for subsequent phases (implementation and impact assessment).
Routine screening for Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) i after PE is not supported by current evidence and guidelines. This study aims to evaluate if a screening program for patients with acute PE based on telephone monitoring of symptoms and further examination if only symptomatic patients could help an early detection of CTEPH.
Endoscopy is the best means of finding early stage of upper gastrointestinal diseases, especially early cancer and benign ulcers. Currently, most people still undergo upper gastrointestinal endoscopy due to discomfort, rather than a regular physical examination at a certain age. This study prospectively investigated the reason for undergoing the first upper gastrointestinal endoscopy in patients and found the correlation of endoscopic findings and symptoms.
The purpose of the Confirm Rx SMART Registry is to collect real world data to assess the safety and performance of the Confirm Rx Insertable Cardiac Monitor (ICM) and system over a 12 month period. A sub-set of subjects enrolled in the Confirm Rx SMART Registry will meet the Post Market Clinical Follow-Up (PMCF) requirement for CE mark.
Double J ureteral stents (DJ) are widely used in urological practice and commonly inserted after most of ureteroscopies. Stent-related symptoms (SRS) represent a major issue. Many research lines have been explored with the aim of decreasing SRS: Vogt et al. projected a self-made pigtail suture stent (PSS) replacing the distal pigtail with a 0.3 Fr suture reaching the bladder, showing decreased SRS and good tolerance. To date, these promising results hasn't been confirmed by a prospective randomized controlled trial (RCT) involving a marketed PSS. Thus, we designed a prospective single-blind RCT to compare SRS caused by marketed PSS and conventional DJ after uncomplicated URS for stone treatment.
Prospective randomized controlled single-blind parallel-group trial in order to compare symptoms related to loop-tail (Polaris Loop) stents versus conventional double J (Vortek) stents after uncomplicated flexible URS.
Systematic screening for cervical cancer stops in France at 65 years old. The incidence of certain types of gynecological neoplasia increases with age (endometrium, vulva). Diagnosis delay of 8 months has been described for uterine cancer and longer delays for vulvar cancer. The aim of our study is to understand help-seeking behavior and its delay for this type of cancer among patients older than 65.
There are consistent evidences through epidemiologic studies in different places, reinforced by occupational asthma records studies, that cleaning workers have a high risk in developing asthma. These risk determinants are not totally known. The air around the worker may have some higher and lower molecular weight with different concentration peaks from removed dust of the cleaning process and volatile substances from cleaning products. Cleaning activities may occur in different places. Although the relationship between rhinitis and asthma is already established, there are not many studies about occupational rhinitis-related work place. This study aimed to investigate airway inflammation and respiratory symptoms of cleaning workers from different workplaces.
