NCT ID: NCT02220452 Recruiting - Anesthesia Clinical Trials

The Effect of Intraoperative Music Listening on Sevoflurane Consumption and Recovery Parameters

Start date: August 2014
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

- The perioperative period can be a significant source of psychological burden, anxiety and fear for patients - Both pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods have been proposed in order to alleviate perioperative stress - Music is one of the non-pharmacological methods which have been used in this context, with favorable effects both preoperatively and postoperatively - The attenuation of perioperative stress through music listening is probably due to the activation of emotional and cognitive processes that evoke feeling of pleasure and can distract patients' attention from fear and unpleasant thoughts related to the surgical procedure - Little information is available regarding the effect of intraoperative music listening on anesthetized, unconscious patients - There is a notion that general anesthesia does not completely abolish auditory perception and that some processing of intraoperative events can occur in unconscious patients, even in the absence of postoperative recall - The investigators hypothesis is that intraoperative music listening can decrease anesthetic requirements and reduce sevoflurane consumption in female patients subjected to abdominal hysterectomy for benign disease.

NCT ID: NCT01963546 Recruiting - Diabetes Clinical Trials

Effects of Different Types of Anesthesia on Stress Response in Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Start date: March 2014
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

General anesthesia can be considered as a combination of hypnosis, antinociception and immobility. Explore the effect of three kinds of anesthesia, that is the total intravenous anesthesia, inhalation anesthesia and inhalation and intravenous anesthesia on stress reactions generated by patients with diabetes conducted gastric - bypass surgery , and choose a best way from three kinds of anesthesia to control stress reaction of diabetics. After selecting the appropriate anesthesia method, assess the effect of dexmedetomidine on controlling stress response from diabetics undergoing laparoscopic gastric-bypass surgical.

NCT ID: NCT01262404 Recruiting - Stress Clinical Trials

Imaging Cerebral and Sub-cerebral Correlates of Meditative States

calm
Start date: January 2010
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Three groups of subjects are trained to practice mindfulness meditation, compassion meditation, or attend a health training control class. Individuals from each group will undergo structural and functional brain imaging before and after training. The hypothesis is that the compassion meditation group will show the largest changes in brain structure and function. In a second series of experiments, the subjects practicing a Tibetan meditation practice will be undergo MRI thermometry imaging to construct detailed three dimensional temperature maps of their bodies before, during, and after they perform this practice.

NCT ID: NCT01099046 Recruiting - Stress Clinical Trials

Stress Management Therapy for Meniere's Disease

SMT
Start date: January 2009
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Attacks in Meniere's disease, characterized by vertigo and hearing loss, are well known to occur repeatedly under stressed environment. Hitherto, its pathology was revealed to be inner ear hydrops through human temporal bone studies in 1938. For the pathogenesis of inner ear hydrops resulting in Meniere's attacks, plasma vasopressin elevation due to stress and V2 receptor overexpression in the inner ear could be essential as a basis of this disease. In the present study, we'd like to find the effective and feasible way to reduce plasma vasopressin level in patients with Meniere's disease.

NCT ID: NCT00698113 Recruiting - Depression Clinical Trials

Parent-Delivered Massage in Paediatric Cancer

Start date: April 2007
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine how parents of children with cancer rate a parent-delivered massage therapy educational program for usability and satisfaction, and if massage therapy, provided by parents to their child with cancer, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression in the child, and parenting stress in the parent.

NCT ID: NCT00485927 Recruiting - Stress Clinical Trials

The Effects of Stress on the Clinical Performance of Residents in Simulated Trauma Scenarios

Start date: April 2007
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Medical practice & training are inherently stressful situations. However, the effects of stress on educational & clinical performance are not well defined. The purpose of the current study is to examine the effects of stress on performance of residents in simulated trauma scenarios. The hypothesis is: 1) acutely stressful scenarios will be appraised as threat by residents and result in elevations of heart rate and salivary cortisol; 2) increased subjective & physiological stress will result in impairments in performance; and 3) greater stress responses will result in greater clinical impairments.

NCT ID: NCT00111059 Recruiting - Obesity Clinical Trials

Primary Prevention Study: Study on Obesity, Cardiovascular and Psycho-Social Characteristics in the City of Merzig

Start date: January 2005
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Cardiovascular risk factors and psycho-social characteristics will be determined in obese and non-obese patients in the setting of primary medical care.
