Filter by:Metacognitive abilities and self-knowledge are necessary for psychological maturation and good mental functioning of individuals. It is generally agreed that an adequate representation of oneself and others is essential to establish functional interpersonal relationships. These metacognitive abilities are not adequately developed in patients with various mental health problems, such as personality disorders, eating disorders, psychosis, and depression, and are associated with the severity of the pathology. Self-awareness is a central element that begins to consolidate during adolescence. For that reason, the investigators aim to evaluate the effects of immersive training on the metacognitive abilities and self-knowledge of young people. Based on the repertory grid technique (RGT), our research team has developed a brief immersive training to enhance metacognitive abilities. This intervention facilitates the exploration of personal identity in a safe environment. Specifically, it is an immersion in the person's own world of meanings using Virtual Reality (VR), with the Explore Your Meanings (EYME) tool, a technological platform created to help mental health professionals to enhance the personal development and therapeutic change of their clients. Expected results include an increase in participants' self-concept clarity, metacognition, and reflective function as well as a deeper knowledge about their relationship with various aspects of self-knowledge and self-esteem.
Objectives: The goal of this study is to understand whether self-knowledge, using the Enneagram, has a long-term impact as a modifying factor of the quality of life, self-compassion and compassion of medical students. Methods: An initial sample of 48 medical students answered, before, immediately after and 9 months after an intervention, an online questionnaire with 6 scales. The intervention group took a self-knowledge and communication course based on the Enneagram. The control group was recruited by matching the sociodemographic variables with the intervention group. The data obtained was subject to descriptive and inferential statistical analysis and qualitative content analysis.
Like many other animals, humans produce nonverbal vocal signals including screams, grunts, roars, cries and laughter across a variety of contexts. However, despite their importance in the human vocal repertoire, the mechanisms and functions of non-verbal signals remain little studied and poorly understood in humans. Our studies aim to improve our understanding of the nature and function of non-verbal signals.
The purpose of this study is to analyse the potential benefits of ingesting a commercially available pre-workout multi-ingredient supplement providing ~90 Kcal. for 25g of powder: carbohydrates -isomaltulose, fructose, maltodextrin- 15 g, essential amino-acids -Beta-alanine -L-arginine AKG, L-Leucine, Taurine, L-citrulline- 6.8 g, Creatine monohydrate: 2g, Guarana Extract: 800mg, total caffeine: 160mg, and Magnesium: 112.5mg) vs Placebo CHO intake on body composition, physical performance, Happiness Score (specially designed by our sponsor company, including different self-reported and validated tests on their short form) and every workout: Self-perceived energy feeling and adherence to the intervention.
The purpose of this community-engaged project is to examine how taking part in different arts (dance & music), compared to control (no arts) affects older adults' Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL using the Short Form-20(SF) form), physical performance (Short Physical Performance Battery-SPPB), cognition (using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment-MoCA), social engagement (National Social Life, Health, & Aging Project-NSHAP survey), and perceptions of self (focus interviews).
Trait anxiety is the tendency of an individual to perceive environmental stimuli such as different events and situations as threatening; it's stable and reflects how an individual generally feels. In 2015, it was estimated that 3.6% of the population lived with anxiety disorders globally, i.e. approximately 264 million people lived with anxiety disorders worldwide of which 31.36 million resided in the Eastern Mediterranean region, that's to say, 10% of the global number of anxiety cases. Moreover, females were more affected than males in a proportion of 4.6% as opposed to 2.6% respectively. The prevalence of anxiety has increased by 14.9% from 2005 to 2015. In addition, in 2017, approximately 42 million new cases were recorded globally. In Egypt, the total number of anxiety cases were more than 3 million in 2015 thus indicating that 4.2% of the total population lived with anxiety. Anxiety may affect the individual's utilization of dental services and predispose to a delay in seeking dental treatment and thus might compromise the overall oral health. Accordingly, this study aims to investigate the effect of trait anxiety on the oral health status of women and determine their behavior towards the utilization of dental services. To our knowledge, no previous research has been conducted to assess such relationship in Egypt.
Inactivity was reported to be high in children and considered to be the fourth common cause of death in all ages. The reason for children is usually the increasing indoor use of sedentary screen time. Active Video Games (AVG) have recently been introduced for decreasing the sedentary time for children and directing them to physical activity (PA) at home. The aim of this study is to show the quantitative effect of games on physical fitness parameters like weight, body mass index (BMI) and fat ratio (FR). The study also aims at the factors for motivation or continuance of the games as self-perception and enjoyment levels together with qualitative effects of games on satisfaction and attitude changes in inactive children.
Injectable anesthesics previous to subgingival scaling and root planing (SRP) presents some disadvantages like fear of the needle insertion, long-lasting effect and prolonged dampening of adjacent tissues. This study will compare the intrapocket anesthetic effectiveness of a skin topical anesthesic EMLA with intrapocket 2% benzocaine, intrapocket placebo and injectable anaesthesia for SRP in a Split-mouth, double-blind, clinical trial study.
