Filter by:The number of students with psychological problems is on the rise, due to a combination of increasing performance pressure, high expectations, difficulties handling stress, social pressure, and studying. Spending time in a green space has been shown to have positive effects on the mental and general health. This project aims to alleviate the symptoms of mental fatigue and stress related disorders such as burn out in students by offering a nature-based activity. Participants are asked to take a thirty-minute walk in a nature-based area for five consecutive days, followed by a control period (regular schedule of the participant) for five days, or vice versa. The investigators test stress-related parameters including concentration tests, cognitive tests, cortisol levels, and cardiovascular measurements.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the efficacy of an education outside the classroom (EOtC) intervention on adolescents' physical activity, school motivation, academic achievement, and wellbeing. The study will also investigate which pedagogical and didactical elements of EOtC are important to achieve more physical activity, school motivation, and wellbeing.
Sexual wellbeing is an integral component of psychosocial and physical wellbeing. Cancer-related symptoms, treatment side-effects and psychosocial distress have significant impact on sexual well-being and sexual health. Within the framework of sexual wellbeing, sexual function is defined by a capacity to fully engage in all phases of the human sexual response cycle. Thus, sexual dysfunction is characterized by a disruption in one or more elements of the response cycle. Previous research shows that patients with hematologic malignancies and specifically patients following stem cell transplantation experience a high symptom burden and distinct genital alterations, and therefore in increased risk of sexual dysfunction. In spite of growing evidence documenting high prevalence of sexual dysfunction in cancer patients, patients with hematologic malignancies are underrepresented in clinical trials investigating their sexual health. This study aims to examine the sexual health in patients across hematologic malignancies in Denmark, and to investigate feasiblity and effect of a randomized multimodal intervention by providing nurse-led sexual consultations and physician-led preventive genital examinations, to enhance sexual function and early recognition of gential graft versus host disease in adult patients following hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Finally, the study aims to explore perspectives and experiences of patients following this multimodal intervention. This knowledge will entail new opportunities to detect subgroups of patients with distinct risk of sexual dysfunction, and potentially lead to targeted interventions in clinical practice toward this specific population. Moreover this will provide evidence with high methodological rigor and potentially strengthen the possibilities for evidence-based decision making in Denmark regarding preventive gential examinations during follow-up in patients following stem cell transplant.
This is a prospective, assessment-based study to examine the relationship between psychophysiological functioning and psychological symptoms in youth newly diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) compared to healthy controls.
The #KindGirlsInACTion project started in 2017 and developed and implemented a psychotherapeutic intervention program in Portuguese female adolescents. This program aimed to improve the overall quality of life and well-being of the participants, and specifically to promote a qualitative improvement in body image and interpersonal relationships, through the promotion of self-compassion, compassion and psychological flexibility. #KindGirlsInACTion is a school-based program, with 9 sessions over 9 weeks. It is essentially practical and interactive, with exercises created specifically for the program, as well as the regular practice of mindfulness.
The psychological health of frontline healthcare workers, caring for critically ill patients with COVID-19, has deteriorated during the pandemic. Nurses appear to be most seriously affected. Despite the availability of supportive interventions, uptake is poor, and none have been found beneficial in randomised controlled trials. The investigators have developed a two-pronged approach (combining the FLASH technique and Guided Imagery) that aims to reduce existing symptoms of distress and provide participants with techniques to help them cope with future stressful events. This approach has been developed with experienced psychological practitioners, and staff members. The FLASH technique is a recently developed therapy which aims to reduce psychological distress following traumatic events. It allows participants to process traumatic memories without feeling distress. Using guided imagery, a trained psychological practitioner helps participants to direct attention from distressing or intrusive memories, by evoking or generating positive mental images, sounds, tastes, smells and movement. Emerging evidence suggests that both techniques are safe and effective. PROACTIVE will investigate the feasibility and acceptability of this two-pronged approach to address existing traumatic symptoms and enhance future resilience for intensive care nurses. Findings will inform the design of a larger trial which tests intervention effectiveness.
The objective of this study is to identify the influence of positive and negative auditory cues, music and a placebo (silence) on mood and gait during 30 minutes of free walking. Participants will be required to walk for a total of 30 minutes with mood being measured every 5 minutes and gait measured throughout the 30 minute protocol.
The primary objective of this study is to collect insights from first responders and military personnel on their need for, use of, and interest in physical and/or mental health medical marijuana or psychedelic-assisted therapy programs. These preliminary data will help to inform and guide the development of a larger patient-oriented study and the design of a clinical program geared towards enhancing therapy treatments for first responders and military personnel.
This project aims to assess if food choice is impacted by loss aversion (LA), and if this differs based on genetic predisposition to LA, in a UK healthy cohort.
Using a prospective qualitative approach, explore whether pathologist intervention is feasible as part of multimodal multidisciplinary care model for transplant patients in effecting psychological dimensions such as experience, satisfaction, or patient's understanding of their disease. Additionally, to examine if this intervention improves medication adherence.
