NCT ID: NCT05454059 Completed - Type 2 Diabetes Clinical Trials

Salivary C1P and PGE2 Levels in Periodontitis Patients With T2DM and Effect of Non-Surgical Periodontal Treatment

Start date: October 22, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Diabetes and periodontal disease are the most common chronic multifactorial and inflammatory diseases in humans, and there is a bidirectional relationship between type 2 diabetes and periodontitis. With the negative effects of the control of these two diseases, it results in an increase in the severity of diabetes and periodontitis, and they affect many systems together. To elucidate the role of ceramide, which is one of the possible biochemical mechanisms between diabetes and the degree of glycemic control and periodontitis, in inflammation. Aim of this study is the measurement of C1P and PGE2 in saliva and the effect of non-surgical periodontal treatment, which includes the degree of control of diabetes, oral hygiene education, tooth surface cleaning and root surface arrangement, on 3 months. A total of 102 subjects were included. Clinical periodontal measurements, saliva samples were collected from each individual at baseline and 3 months after non-surgical periodontal treatmet in periodontitis groups. Salivary C1P and PGE2 levels were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method.

NCT ID: NCT05449964 Recruiting - Periodontitis Clinical Trials

Single Sitting SRP vs Supra-gingival Scaling Followed by Sub-gingival SRP After One Week

SRP
Start date: August 1, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The primary course of periodontal treatment is non-surgical periodontal therapy followed by surgical therapy, if required, with an aim to arrest ongoing inflammatory periodontal destruction along with reconstruction of lost apparatus if possible. There is no protocol established for completing scaling and root planing (SRP) in patients with generalized advanced periodontitis. In some cases SRP is completed in single sitting whereas in other cases supragingival scaling is followed by subgingival SRP in the next appointment. It is hypothesized that presence of reparative components near the base of the pocket could result in better treatment outcomes after scaling and root planning done in single sitting when compared to supragingival scaling followed by sub-gingival scaling and root planning after one week.

NCT ID: NCT05449938 Recruiting - Periodontitis Clinical Trials

Periodontal Phenotype and Scaling and Root Planing

Start date: September 1, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Periodontal phenotype has been recognized as one of the key factors that may potentially impact the outcome of a variety of periodontal surgical and non-surgical procedures. Taking into consideration the inconsistent findings of the studies done in this regard, outcomes of scaling and root planing with respect to periodontal phenotype. With this aim, the present study would be conducted to assess the influence of periodontal phenotype on outcome of scaling and root planing in periodontitis patients.

NCT ID: NCT05449821 Completed - Obesity Clinical Trials

Investigation of Asprosin a Novel Adipokine in Periodontitis

Start date: January 1, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Asprosin, a recently discovered glucogenic adipokine, is mainly synthesized by white adipose tissue and released during fasting. Appetite, glucose metabolism, insulin resistance, cell apoptosis, etc. asprosin is associated with diseases such as diabetes, obesity, polycystic ovary syndrome, and cardiovascular diseases. Periodontal tissue may act as a source of endocrine-like inflammatory mediators (such as TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1) that are important in periodontal inflammation and can affect glucose and lipid metabolism. Production of TNF-α and IL-6 in adipose tissues strengthens the relationship between obesity, T2DM and periodontitis.we postulated that asprosin may be candidate for explaining the triangular relationship among obesity, T2DM, and periodontal disease.

NCT ID: NCT05449249 Completed - Healthy Clinical Trials

Oral and Gut Microbiota Changes During Long-term Fasting in Humans

OralFast
Start date: September 1, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The aim of this longitudinal trial is to investigate the effects of a 10±3-day fasting period in 30 subjects. Changes in the oral and gut microbiota, halitosis, as well as inflammatory and antioxidative parameters and biomarkers of sulfur metabolism will be analysed.

NCT ID: NCT05449093 Completed - Periodontitis Clinical Trials

GCF Galectin-3 and Interleukin-1beta Levels in Periodontitis.

Start date: February 21, 2019
Phase:
Study type: Observational

This study aims to evaluate gingival crevicular fluid Galectin-3 and Interleukin-1beta levels in different grades (B and C) of stage 3 periodontitis, concurrently, and also to investigate their discriminative efficiencies in periodontal diseases. A total of 80 systemically healthy and non-smoker individuals, 20 stage 3 grade C periodontitis 20 stage 3 grade B periodontitis, 20 gingivitis and 20 periodontally healthy were enrolled. Clinical periodontal parameters were recorded and GCF Galectin-3 and interleukin-1 beta total amounts were measured by ELISA. Receiver operating characteristics curve was used for estimating the area under the curve.

NCT ID: NCT05448976 Completed - Smoking Clinical Trials

Potential Effect for the Smoking on Periodontitis From the Perspective of Arginine Metabolites

Start date: August 12, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Arginine metabolites are amino acids that are associated with vascular tone regulation and the level of inflammation, with critical roles in the synthesis of NO. Our aim was to determine the ADMA, SDMA, L-NMMA, L-arginine, L-homoarginine and IL-6 levels in saliva and serum samples from periodontitis patients and periodontally healthy individuals and to assess the levels of these compounds according to smoking status and compare these levels to those of healthy individuals.

NCT ID: NCT05447026 Completed - Periodontitis Clinical Trials

The Effect of Adjunctive Therapies in Regenerative Treatment of Stage III Grade C Periodontitis

Start date: January 1, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Anti-infective procedures play a very important role in the success of regenerative surgical treatment of aggressive periodontitis, Grade C periodontitis, which shows the newly named molar-incisor pattern according to the 2017 World Workshop Classification of Periodontal Diseases. In the present study, it was aimed to analyze the effects of photodynamic, photobiomodulation, and ozone therapy applications on periodontal healing, both clinically and immunologically, in addition to the surgical regenerative treatment of aggressive periodontitis. Forty adult individuals diagnosed with aggressive periodontitis who applied to Gazi University Faculty of Dentistry Department of Periodontology for the treatment of periodontal disease were included in the study. In addition to the regenerative surgical treatment using cortico-cancellous particle allograft and a resorbable collagen membrane in randomly determined areas with multiple intraosseous defects, topical ozone, antimicrobial photodynamic, and light-emitting diode (LED) photobiomodulation treatments were applied. Periodontal clinical parameters [plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), bleeding on probing (BOP), probing pocket depths (PPD), clinical attachment level (CAL), gingival recession (GR), and width of keratinized gingival (WKG)] were examined and patient-centered postoperative evaluations, and early wound healing index (EHI) assessments were performed for 2 weeks after the operation. In addition, gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) samples from patients to determine the total amount and concentration of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), interleukin -6 (IL-6), Runt-related transcription factor 2 (RunX2), NEL-like 1 (Nell-1), Osterix and samples were quantified by Quantitative Real-Time PCR. The repeated measures ANOVA model was used for the analysis of variables in which both group and time measurements were taken.
