Background: An innovative, non-invasive, and reversible Intra Auricular Device (IAD) has recently been introduced to treat temporomandibular muscle and joint disorders.Aim: To evaluate the effects of the IAD on pain, psychosocial domain and Pressure Pain Threshold (PPT) of masticatory muscles in patients with TMD pain. Methods: Ten subjects with TMD pain and with pain intensity higher than 30 mm on a VAS scale were included in the study. Patients received the IAD and counselling. Assessments included questionnaires of the DC/TMD Axis II questionnaires (Characteristic Pain Index, Interference, Jaw Functional Limitation Scale, Patient Health Questionnaire 9, Patient Health Questionnaire 15, Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale, Oral Behavior Checklist and Oral Health Impact Profile-22, Axis I clinical examination and PPTs at baseline (T0), after one month (T1), three months (T2) and six months (T3) from the first use of the device. PPTs were measured at anterior temporalis muscles, masseter muscles and right thenar as a control site.The Shapiro-Wilk test was used for the normal distribution of data. The difference among the longitudinal timepoints for variable was analysed with ANOVA. Statistical significance was accepted at p < 0.05.
The World Health Organization (WHO) and professional societies recommend restricted episiotomy instead of routine episiotomy. However, since the 1990s, there has been evidence of the risks of the procedure, and although routine use has no benefit, it is still widely used. In this study, investigators aimed to determine the effect of episiotomy on the wound healing process and pain perception by providing episiotomy wound healing and genital hygiene training with training material created to raise awareness about wound care after episiotomy and to eliminate factors that delay the healing of episiotomy wound.
Chest drain is used routinely after lung surgery. Despite preliminary studies demonstrate the feasibility and safety of intraoperative chest drain removal, these are either retrospective or mainly concerning benign disease. Hypothesis: Participants treated without post-operative chest tube after thoracoscopic wedge resection have less pain, reduced opioid usage without increasing postoperative complications than participants treated with standard post-operative chest tube, and could possibly be discharged earlier.
There is lack of structured pain neuroscience education in patients with lumber radiculopathy. Previously researches were done on pain neuroscience education before surgery of lumber radiculopathy. However this study will provide structured educational plan about pain neuroscience education along with therapeutic exercises to positively influence pain knowledge, dysfunction, and fear avoidance, limitation in movement and healthcare utilization in patients who have diagnosed with lumbar radiculopathy and don't want to undergo surgery.
Sacroiliac joint dysfunction is the changing of joint structure (ligaments, muscles and cartilage) that cause impairments and movement restrictions. It is one of the primary sources of low back pain among female population and often misdiagnosed. Almost 15-30% patients are suffering from sacroiliac joint dysfunction who presented with the complaint of low back pain. The aim of the study is to determine the effect of mulligan's mobilization with and without clamshell exercise on pain, disability and quality of life in patients with sacroiliac joint dysfunction.
Hallux valgus is a forefoot deformity with a high prevalence, which can progress to lateral deviation of the big toe, medial deviation of the first metatarsal, and subluxation of the first metatarsophalangeal joint in the future. It has been reported in studies that changes in the load distribution of the foot in hallux valgus patients, hyperkeratosis, especially first-line pain, and sensory receptors on the sole of the foot may result in the effect of sensory receptors on the sole of the foot, and thus the balance may be negatively affected, poor postural stability and an increase in the risk of falling. It is thought that increased sensitivity to the senses coming from the feet with sensory training can improve the balance and reduce the risk of falling as a result of better perception of foot orientation and position.
The aim of this study, using two different injection techniques, 1. To evaluate the patients in terms of the pain they feel during the application of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) injection, 2. Evaluation in terms of undesirable effects developing after injection, 3. To evaluate the degree of pain/drowsiness, symptom severity and functionality, and median nerve diameter at the end of the first month after the injection, and to evaluate the relationship of these parameters with the pain felt by the patients during the injection.
Appropriate pain and anxiety management of critically-ill patients during bedside procedures remains a big challenge. Clinical Practice Guidelines recommend preemptive analgesia or non-pharmacological interventions, such as relaxation techniques or distraction, to prevent and treat pain during nursing procedures. One of the most painful procedures in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is the removal of chest drains in post-cardiac surgical patients. Virtual reality (VR) is a computer-generated simulation of a 360º immersive world in which the patient can receive visual and auditory stimuli that distract them from the real environment. Current research has demonstrated that VR reduced pain and anxiety in intravenous catheter insertions or wound care. The primary objective of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of VR on pain and anxiety during the removal of chest drains, in post-cardiac surgical patients. The hypothesis is that VR reduces both pain and anxiety, in critically-ill patients, during the removal of chest drains in post-cardiac surgical patients.
