Filter by:Overweight and obesity (i.e., excess body fat) is a worldwide health problem, which predisposes individuals to various metabolic diseases. Weight loss through lifestyle modifications such as dietary calorie restrictions and/or exercise are effective approaches to reduce excess body fat. However, lean muscle mass loss is often an undesired outcome associated with weight loss, which should be avoided, particularly in older adults, who are also faced with declining anabolic responses to dietary protein intake. Given the increased interest and popularity of plant-based diets, in this study we will compare two distinct calorie-restricted, weight loss diets, both supplemented with weekly exercise, predominantly consisting of either plant-based proteins or animal-based proteins on changes in total body weight, body fat and lean muscle mass, as well as associated changes in metabolic health.
The "Super Rehab: a novel approach to reverse atrial fibrillation?" study proposes to test the use of a novel lifestyle intervention (Super Rehab), in addition to standard care, for patients with symptomatic atrial fibrillation (AF) requiring rhythm control strategy who are overweight. As the main driver behind the selection of a rhythm-control strategy for patients with AF, the primary outcome will be an improvement in AF-related symptoms with Super Rehab versus Usual Care only. Key secondary outcomes will include the burden of AF, change in stroke risk, biochemical and cardiac functional and structural changes, and markers of quality-of-life and health economic costs.

Studies showing the relationship between meal frequency, weight loss and anthropometric measurements are contradictory. This study is planned and conducted to observe the effects of meal frequency (3 meals+3 snacks vs 3 meals) on weight loss, anthropometric measurements and body composition with 3-month energy restricted Medical Nutrition Therapy program in 19-64 years old women with a BMI ≥ 27 kg/m2.
Introduction: The prevalence of childhood overweight and obesity has risen from just 4% in 1975 to more than 18% in 2016. Little is known about adiposity of the infant, but it positively associates to the mother's BMI. Globally, the prevalence of overweight has tripled since 1975 and is now affecting one of three Danish women at the time of pregnancy. However, despite increasing awareness of obesity and accumulating evidence of its health consequences limited effect of intervention in childhood obesity exists. Maternal obesity before conception, an excessive increase in body weight during pregnancy and physical inactivity are some of the risk factors suspected of infant adiposity. Lifestyle interventions during pregnancy have shown limited or no effect in the offspring. Therefore, renewed effort to improve the prevention of childhood obesity is warranted. Methods and analysis: This is a randomized, parallel group, tailored, multifactorial lifestyle intervention trial in women (age 18 to 38 years) with overweight or obesity (BMI 27 to 42 kg/m2) seeking pregnancy. The women are randomized 1:1 to either the lifestyle or standard of care group. The lifestyle intervention is initiated prior to pregnancy. The lifestyle intervention is set off with a low-calorie diet for 8 weeks and throughout the intervention period (prior to and during pregnancy) participants follow an intervention containing exercise according to the World Health Organization guidelines, healthy diet and mentorship to maintain healthy weight before and during pregnancy.The primary outcome is the difference in neonatal adiposity measured at birth. Finally, a child and family cohort will be established to follow the children throughout childhood for healthy weight development. The study will provide evidence of effects from pre-conception-initiated intervention and have the potential to improve health and quality of life for children. Ethics and dissemination: The trial has been approved by the ethical committee of the Capital Region of Denmark (H-22011403) The trial will be conducted in agreement with the Declaration of Helsinki and monitored to follow the guidelines for good clinical practice. Results will be submitted for publication in international peer-reviewed scientific journals.
The use of zein nanoparticles as vehicles for drug delivery is under study, but of the effects observed in empty nanoparticles, in laboratory animals, the reduction of glucose levels was something worth studying. Thus, the present research on patients with prediabetes has been proposed. The objective is to assess the efficacy of zein nanoparticles on the glycemic control. For this purpose, a randomized, double blind crossover study has been designed. Target sample size is 60.
This is a pilot feasibility study of an investigation of the influence of excess adiposity on cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF), insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), and metabolic responses to a standardized aerobic exercise program in cancer survivors. This investigation attempts to isolate the influence of adiposity on these responses. We will enroll overweight, obese, and normal weight cancer survivors with a primary diagnosis of breast, prostate, or colorectal cancer who have completed all cancer-related treatment. Participants will engage in a 15-week aerobic exercise intervention with pre- and post-intervention assessments.
The aim of this research is to undertake a feasibility study to assess uptake and impact of providing access to a widely available weight management and wellness program (WW; formerly known as Weight Watchers) among individuals experiencing food insecurity and overweight/obesity, who are eligible to receive weekly produce at the Mid-Ohio Food Collective (MOFC) through their pre-existing enrollment in the Mid-Ohio Farmacy program. Participants (n=90) adults over the age of 18 with a BMI between 27-50 kg/m2 will be recruited for a 6 month single-arm clinical trial, where participants will be provided with WW Unlimited Workshop + Digital. The primary objective is to test the feasibility and acceptability of a commercial weight loss and wellness program with an established produce prescription program among individuals experiencing food insecurity and overweight/obesity. Secondary outcomes will include assessments related to weight, height, blood pressure, dietary intake, physical activity, food access, depression, wellbeing and economic factors. This feasibility study will help inform future interventions among this population. More specifically, this study will help answer questions about the feasibility and acceptability of such an intervention, adherence to the WW program as described to the participant, and the impact that access to a free weight management and wellness program can have on health-related outcomes among individuals experiencing food insecurity and overweight/obesity.
The overall objective of this research entity is to reveal the holistic health impact of oats in metabolically challenged individuals in a 6-week intervention, compared to that of rice. This is achieved by investigation of the plasma lipids, plasma antioxidant status, fecal microbiota and fecal bile acids. Additionally the effect of the 6-week diet on posptprandial glycemia and postprandial satiety and vitality are investigated.
