A prospective, multicenter, registered cohort study to observe the incidence of 1-year major adverse cardiac events in patients with coronary heart disease co-morbid depression treated with percutaneous coronary intervention and to clarify the predictors of 1-year major adverse cardiac events post PCI among these patients.
The erector spinae plane block (ESPB) is a novel regional analgesic technique that provides pain relief with a peripheral nerve block catheter. The goal of this study is to see if bilateral ESPB catheters can improve clinical outcomes in patients undergoing cardiac surgery via sternotomy, such as decreasing the duration of postoperative mechanical ventilation, need for intravenous opioid medications, length of stay in the intensive care unit (ICU), and improving pain scores.
A large number of patients with symptomatic ischaemic heart disease undergo coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) to alleviate their symptoms and improve prognosis. Given the progressive nature of coronary disease, bypass grafts can narrow or block over time, leading to chest pain and the need for further invasive coronary angiography. Invasive coronary procedures in patients with bypass grafts can be more complicated due to the variation in bypass graft ostia. This can lead to longer procedure times, with higher doses of contrast and radiation and more discomfort for the patient. The aim of this study is to see if the use of computed tomography cardiac angiography (CTCA) in patients with previous bypass grafts prior to invasive coronary angiography will help make their procedure safer and quicker.
Despite modern reperfusion strategies, myocardial infarction leads to deleterious processes resulting in left ventricular remodelling (LVR) and heart failure (HF). Several biomarkers i.e. galectin-3 (Gal-3) and soluble ST-2 protein are involved in LVR as a result of inflammatory processes and fibrosis. There is an evidence of a high prognostic value of both biomarkers in prediction of outcomes in HF patients. This study will further investigate the role of Gal-3 and ST-2 in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and without prior HF in prediction of unfavourable outcomes.
The purpose of this study is to assess the safety and performance of Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement (TMVR) system for the treatment of severe, symptomatic mitral regurgitation (MR).
P5.fi study - P4 together with a fifth 'P' and '.fi' for population health Finally Implemented in Finland - studies the value of returning genetic and metabolomic risk information in two diseases (coronary heart disease and type 2 diabetes) and one feature (venous thromboembolism). The hypothesis of the study is that 1) combining genetic and metabolic risk with traditional risk factors adds value to the personal risk assessment of these diseases, 2) such risk information can be provided to individuals using a web based user portal in an easily understandable and useful format, and 3) receiving genetic and metabolomic risk information has an effect on the health of the study participants. The study is a continuation of FinHealth 2017 -study, which involved more than 7,000 Finns from around the country. The participants of FinHealth were invited to participate in P5.fi -study. The new research utilises information, samples, and measurements obtained in the FinHealth Study. Prospective clinical significance of selected genetic and metabolomic risk scores will be studied in 30.000 Finnish individuals. The study will analyze the genetic and metabolomic profile of the P5.fi participants and develop and test a protocol for returning them health related risk information. The impact of the intervention will by followed up by questionnaires and national health registers for five years.
Studies have shown that the risk of developing heart arrhythmias, is increased in patients receiving medication for Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and depression. The QT-interval on a electrocardiogram (ECG) is often used to assess the patients risk of developing heart arrhythmias. The QT-interval defines the hearts electrical resting period and a long interval is linked to an increased risk of developing heart arrhythmias. In this project the investigators wish to examine possible side-effects in patients receiving medication for ADHD and depression and their dynamic QT-interval changes, by analysing the ECG changes that occur during "Brisk Standing".
The objective of this study is to assess the safety and initial effectiveness of the TIVUS™ System when used for pulmonary artery denervation in group II PH patients through change in clinical parameters including hemodynamics, exercise tolerance, and quality of life. This is a prospective, multi-center, non-randomized, open-label clinical trail. The study will be conducted in up to 3 centers and will recruit up to 15 patients diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension due to left heart disease that demonstrate combined pre and post capillary involvement with PVR>3 wood units.
Vegetarian and vegan diets have been shown to reduce cardiometabolic risk factors for chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes, and have been associated with decreased risk of these chronic diseases. The role of vegetarian and/or vegan dietary patterns and incident cardiovascular outcomes still remains unclear. To address these uncertainties, the investigators propose to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of the totality of evidence from prospective cohort studies to distinguish the association of vegetarian and/or vegan dietary patterns on the prevention and management of cardiovascular diseases. This proposed knowledge synthesis was commissioned by the Diabetes and Nutrition Study Group (DNSG) of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) and will be used to inform clinical practice and dietary guidelines, help improve health outcomes, and guide future research design.
