NCT ID: NCT05793138 Not yet recruiting - Clinical trials for Chronic Kidney Diseases

Dialysis Geriatric Care Model

Start date: May 5, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The objectives of this study are to refine the dialysis care model with key stakeholder input and conduct a pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT) to obtain evidence critical to inform a definitive RCT.

NCT ID: NCT05710809 Recruiting - Cancer Clinical Trials

The SaVe Project-Sarcopenia and Vertigo in Aging Patients With Colorectal Cancer

SaVe
Start date: February 20, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn about the cause of dizziness and decline in walking ability in in older adults ≥65 years during chemotherapy treatment for colorectal cancer. Another goal is to investigate if a comprehensive geriatric assessment and three months' specialized physical group-based exercise three times/week can counteract muscle weakness, vertigo, instability, impaired walking balance, and neuropathy

NCT ID: NCT05414721 Completed - Anesthesia Clinical Trials

The Effects of Low Flow and Normal Flow Desflurane Anesthesia

Start date: May 28, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Aging is a physiological process. In the elderly, loss of functional reserve in all organ system, regression in anabolic processes and increase in catabolic processes are observed s (1). The number of geriatric patients is also increasing in our country. Technological developments in anesthesia and surgery technics show that we will provide medical services to more elderly patients over time(2). Cystatin C is excreted only by the kidney (7, 8). Serum cystatin C level is not affected by body muscle mass, age and gender. The half-life is short. Because of all these features, it is thought to be more sensitive than creatinine in evaluating kidney functions (8,9). In this study, it was aimed to compare the effects of low flow and normal flow desflurane anesthesia applied in geriatric patients on postoperative liver and kidney functions and serum cystatin C levels.

NCT ID: NCT05228782 Recruiting - Loneliness Clinical Trials

COVID-19 and Social Isolation and Loneliness Trial

SIL
Start date: November 1, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Social isolation and loneliness worsen older peoples' quality of life, risk of dementia, and contributes to 45,000 deaths/year in Canada - as much as smoking. Isolated people use the health care system more often, but have worse outcomes. Effective, inexpensive interventions exist but unfortunately they have not been implemented in Canada. We partnered with the Australian developer of HOW R U?, an effective and feasible intervention that uses specially trained, older, hospital volunteers to provide peer support to combat isolation and loneliness in isolated older peers. Little is known about older people's preferences for virtual care (telephone vs. video) nor their relative effectiveness. Thus we will compare two ways of delivering HOW R U: telephone support and a tested, secure user-friendly video conferencing app, aTouch Away® to a common control arm. We also partnered with Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Geriatrics and Psychiatry to identify people who will benefit from peer support; and with Volunteer Services to recruit volunteers.

NCT ID: NCT05113667 Completed - Geriatric Clinical Trials

Clinical Pharmacist-led Appropriate Acid Suppression Therapy Stewardship Program

Start date: September 1, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

To evaluate the impact of clinical pharmacist-led appropriate acid suppression therapy stewardship program in hospitalized older patients.

NCT ID: NCT05025579 Completed - Depression Clinical Trials

What is the Effect of Aerobic Exercise on Depression in Geriatric Individuals Diagnosed With Depression?

Start date: April 1, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study was planned to examine the effect of aerobic exercises on depression in geriatric individuals with a diagnosis of depression.

NCT ID: NCT04965480 Recruiting - Geriatric Clinical Trials

Detecting Delayed Discharge in Acute Geriatric Unit Using Natural Language Processing

COLATERAL
Start date: July 1, 2021
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Delayed discharge in geriatric units is a health and economic issue. There is no algorithm to automatically measure the appropriateness of admissions or hospital days. 30% of the days of hospitalization in acute geriatric units (AGU) are not appropriate. Waiting for a transfer to a follow-up care and rehabilitation unit (SSR) is the main risk factor for inappropriate days. The purpose of this project is to develop an algorithm using natural language processing to predict the appropriateness of an admission to UGA, or a day at UGA.

NCT ID: NCT04869345 Completed - Chronic Pain Clinical Trials

Positive Affect as a Source of Resilience for Adults in Chronic Pain

LARKSPUR
Start date: July 27, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a chronic musculoskeletal condition characterized by widespread pain and tenderness, and often accompanied by impaired physical functioning, depressed mood, as well as deficits in positive affect (PA).Standard behavioral therapies typically focus on minimizing negative thoughts and emotions associated with pain and yield only modest treatment effects. Efforts are therefore needed to develop more effective psychological treatments for chronic pain by identifying new targets for intervention. The objectives of this Stage I randomized pilot trial are to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability, and the impact of a previously developed online positive affect (PA) skills intervention -LARKSPUR (Lessons in Affect Regulation to Keep Stress and Pain UndeR control)-in a sample of Hispanic, non-Hispanic other, and non-Hispanic African American patients with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS).

NCT ID: NCT04819282 Completed - Exercise Capacity Clinical Trials

Mask Usage and Physical Performance During COVID-19 Pandemic in Geriatrics

Start date: September 10, 2020
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

In the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of masks in daily life has become an important issue. The most important measure taken to prevent contagion is the use of masks. The aim of the study is to determine the effects of surgical masks used in every moment of life on physical performance in elderly individuals.

NCT ID: NCT04803617 Completed - Clinical trials for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

Investigation of Pectoralis Muscle Strength in Elderly With Interstitial Lung Disease

Start date: January 23, 2017
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is a restrictive lung disease characterized by impaired lung function, exercise limitation and skeletal muscle dysfunction. There is limited data on skeletal muscle function in ILD, most of which are focused on the lower limb muscles. The aim of this study were to evaluated the change of pectoralis muscle strength and relationship of pulmonary function with pectoralis muscle strength.
