NCT ID: NCT04850820 Completed - Exercise Clinical Trials

Impact of Amino Acids to Enhance Anabolism After Home-based Exercise

B2B
Start date: April 1, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

An adequate quantity of lean body mass is vital for optimal health and performance, and is accrued when net protein balance (NPB) is positive. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein, and when consumed following resistance exercise, significantly improve NPB. However, no study has investigated how a supplement of all of the essential amino acids (EAA) affects NPB following resistance exercise in a free-living, home-based setting, particularly when compared to a supplement of branched-chain amino acids (BCAA). Therefore, the purpose of this study is to determine the impact of a novel EAA supplement on anabolism (e.g., NPB) as compared to BCAA and placebo supplements following home-based resistance exercise.

NCT ID: NCT04847128 Completed - Depression Clinical Trials

The Effect of Exercise on Anxiety and Cognition in Students at University

Start date: March 16, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Exercise may improve the mood and cognition in young people. PURPOSE: It has been well-known that physical exercise can generally benefit the mental health. However, most evidences that physical exercise improves psychiatric symptoms come from retrospective or cross-sectional studies. Moreover, the studies on the effect of physical exercise in the young adults' mental health were limited. This randomized-controlled trial aims to determinate the effects of a chronic and aerobic exercise on the mood and cognition of young people.

NCT ID: NCT04845204 Completed - Exercise Clinical Trials

Relaxation Treatment in Total Knee Arthroplasty

Start date: January 1, 2015
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Surgical techniques and treatment methods of the arthroplasty have been improved and the results after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) are generally good. However, some patients have suboptimal postoperative results with respect to pain and physical functioning and may not be satisfied with the results of their TKA. Psychological symptoms were found to be associated with these suboptimal results. The aim of the present study is to determine weather relaxation techniques had beneficial effects on pain, sleeping quality, functional status and physiological symptoms in TKA patients during their hospital stay.

NCT ID: NCT04834050 Completed - Knee Osteoarthritis Clinical Trials

Can 4 Weeks of Exercise Program Change Quadriceps Architecture in Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis

Start date: October 1, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Quadriceps femoris (QF) atrophy is seen in rheumatoid arthritis and knee osteoarthritis (OA) patients. Exercise therapy is mile stone in knee OA patients also it can help thicken QF muscle of RA patients. We primarily aimed to demonstrate the influence of 4 weeks of knee isometric home-based training on QF muscle parts thickness and pennation angle measurements of RA patients with ultrasonography (USG). This study included 12 patients with RA, 12 patients with knee OA as positive control group and 13 volunteers as healthy control group. All participants were given 4 weeks of quadriceps-hamstring isometric home-based training. At baseline and at the end of the program, WOMAC and Lequesne algofunctional index scores of knee OA patients and DAS28-CRP scores of RA patients were recorded. Dominant knee thickness and pennation angle measurements of QF muscle parts were evaluated by ultrasonography.

NCT ID: NCT04828655 Completed - Hypertension Clinical Trials

Analysis of Bioparametric Measures for Correlating Daily Habits and Reducing Blood Pressure

Start date: September 1, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

To study the effects of the use of a mobile application plus recommendations based on a Mediterranean diet on the intake of micronutrients from natural sources (not drugs) on health indicators, cardiovascular parameters (blood pressure...), physical condition and body composition in a Spanish adult population.

NCT ID: NCT04824807 Completed - Exercise Clinical Trials

Effects of Clinical Pilates and Yoga Training in Lymphedema

Start date: October 29, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The aim of our study is to compare the effects of clinical Pilates and yoga training on lymphedema, upper limb muscle strength, proprioception, functions and quality of life in women with lymphedema after breast cancer.

NCT ID: NCT04822831 Completed - Exercise Clinical Trials

The Effect of Semi-recumbent Position With Exercise Training on Long-term Ventilator-dependent Patients

Start date: May 30, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Prolonged mechanical ventilation patients rely on medical expenses per year had increased by nearly 20 billion in 15 years, so it is worthwhile to explore how to improve the respiratory function and even their quality of life of patients in Respiratory care wards (RCWs). This study used repeated experimental measurements and purpose sampling, and the investigators invited patients in respiratory care ward in northern Taiwan. They were randomly assigned to the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group was given 45 degree Semi-sitting 2 hrs and upper-limb exercise training 10 mins once a day. There were 29 prolonged mechanical ventilation (PMV) patients in the experimental group and 26 in the control group. Our conclusions showed that PMV patients can significantly improve the maximum inspiratory pressure (MIP) in the post-test while performed a 45-degree semi-sitting position with upper limb training for 4 weeks. The minute ventilation (MV) has a trend of increasing month by month in the experimental group, but it is necessary to consider whether it is due to the improvement of lung function or just cause of the increased oxygen consumption and accelerated respiratory rate, so it can not be inferred to improvement of the patient's condition or lung function.

NCT ID: NCT04815980 Completed - Exercise Clinical Trials

Impact of Pilates on Running Mechanics

Start date: September 8, 2009
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

INTRODUCTION: Core strengthening, balance, and flexibility programs such as Pilates have been advocated to affect running mechanics and prevent lower extremity injuries positively. The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of a 12-week mat-based Pilates exercise program on dynamic knee valgus alignment in runners. METHODS: Thirty-four young male and female adults performed a running protocol at baseline. The protocol consisted of the participants running on a treadmill at a constant five miles per hour (mph) for four minutes. Post-examination, participants were randomly assigned to a Pilates or control group (n=16 and n=18, respectively). A certified Pilates instructor gave the Pilates group a 12-week home-based program. To ensure participants in the Pilates group performed exercises correctly, the Pilates instructor conducted the first session, and provided feedback to each participant. Participants in both groups performed the same running testing protocol every four weeks. Knee valgus was measured as the medial displacement of the knee joint center during the running stance phase. Repeated measures Analysis of Variance (RepANOVA) was calculated at baseline and 4-, 8-, and 12-weeks post examinations to compare knee valgus during running.

Fitness Trial in Adults With Sickle Cell Disease (SCD Fit): A Feasibility Study

Start date: September 1, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this project is to develop novel approaches to promote health and longevity while enhancing quality of life among persons with Sickle cell disease (SCD). Therefore, investigators are aiming to adapt an evidence-based exercise intervention for adults with SCD informed by culturally- relevant and biologic factors and pre-test the adapted exercise program in a small sample of adults with SCD.
