Filter by:The aim of study; WorkCIT is to investigate whether managerial support in using systematic work environment evaluation and adjustment (SWEA) with/without additional 3 month web-based NSEs with four visits to a physiotherapist is effective in promoting reduced neck pain and disability among dental health care professionals (DHCP) with work-related neck pain (WRNP). The aim of the subgroup studies is to investigate biomarkers and tissue changes and the association with pain, work ability, and other outcomes before and after SWEA with or without NSEs. Furthermore, to investigate dental staff experiences with the interventions and their impact on work ability, health and their work situation, and investigate managers experience of SWEA with support from the Prehab guide and workshops. The hypothesis is that a combined effort with SWEA to promote the work situation together with NSEs will reduce neck pain intensity and improve work ability to a greater extent than the SWEA only. Methods and analysis: This is a prospective, longitudinal, randomised, controlled multi-centre trial with two parallel treatment arms and blinded investigators conducted according to a detailed protocol following the guidelines in the CONSORT checklist. A total of 240 DHCP with WRNP will be recruited. The main outcome is neck pain intensity. Secondary outcomes are work ability, function, health-related quality of life, work absenteeism, work-related factors, and work adjustments made. Cost-effectiveness will be studied from a societal perspective if significant differences appear between randomization groups regarding health-related quality of life and will in that case be reported in a separate paper. To improve diagnostics and help assess the effectiveness of intervention biochemical sub-group studies will be performed before and after intervention to investigate pain related biomarkers. Interviews with a sub-group of participants and managers will be performed regarding work-ability, work adjustments and experiences of interventions.
The purpose of this project is to develop novel approaches to promote health and longevity while enhancing quality of life among persons with Sickle cell disease (SCD). Therefore, investigators are aiming to adapt an evidence-based exercise intervention for adults with SCD informed by culturally- relevant and biologic factors.
The aim of this study is to 1. register possible changes to uteroplacental circulation in relation to physical tests, 2. to register energy and nutritional intake, relationship towards the body during pregnancy and during the early period after giving birth, 3. register the experience of guidance given related to exercise, nutrition, and recovery, 4. register elite athletes' experience of combining the role of being a mom and an elite athlete, and 5. register attitudes and reactions from the support system when it comes to being an elite athlete and being pregnant. Material and method: 30 pregnant female elite athletes and 30 moderately physically active pregnant women will be recruited for the completion of physical testing and questionnaires and questionnaires only, respectively. 20 national team leaders/coaches and 10 sponsors will be recruited for a semi-structured interview about attitudes, reactions and guidance towards athletes who become pregnant and still wish to continue their career as an athlete after pregnancy.
In this proposal, the investigators challenge the assumption that following the physical activity guidelines implies benefit for ALL adults, and that if benefit is not achieved in response to first line therapy, it will be by simply exercising more. Thus, for improving cardiorespiratory fitness and cardiometabolic risk factors, unanswered questions include: 1) To what extent, regardless of exercise amount or intensity, is exercise not associated with benefit? Demonstration of a resistance to benefit through exercise in a substantial number of adults would be a novel and important finding, would counter the assumptions of many if not most health care practitioners, and could have immediate and direct application in all health care settings. 2) To what extent will non-responders to first line therapy (150 min/wk) be required to increase exercise amount or intensity to achieve benefit? 3) To what extent will failure to improve CRF segregate (be associate with) with cardiometabolic risk factors? The investigators propose that adults who remain exercise resistant for improvement in CRF and cardiometabolic risk despite increasing amount or intensity are at high risk of metabolic disease and consequently, are candidates for alternative treatment strategies. 4) To what extent is biological sex and/or phenotype a determinant of response or non-response to exercise?
To prepare for a large scale-up study, the goal of this pilot implementation trial is to examine the feasibility of Movement-to-Music (M2M©) delivery mechanisms through two channels: 1) a group-based M2M© program conducted onsite at a local YMCA; and 2) a blended program that provides Y-M2M© and a home-based M2M© (B-M2M©) via videoconferencing. A key element of this pilot is to examine issues associated with participant-provider interactions, and to better understand the robustness of the technology to deliver a group-based (teleexercise) version of M2M© in the home setting.
A 2x2 randomized crossover of single dose malarone at rest and during moderate intensity exercise under controlled conditions of heat and humidity in healthy adult participants. Statistical analysis of AUC and Cmax will be performed to determine pharmacokinetic changes.
The Study Investigators intend to study the adherence to and effect of a prescribed, monitored at-home exercise regimen in a pregnant population at risk for gestational diabetes, with a specific goal of understanding factors relating to adoption and performance of regular, sustained physical activity.
Older persons are at riskt for falls and fractures. After hip surgery they are normally treated with physical or occupational therapy. The additional use of computer based exercise games for training and the acceptance of such a technology are unclear. Thus, we plant to assess the above outcome ins an observational pilot study.
The purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness and safety of the therapeutic exercise effects in patients with chronic kidney disease. An randomized clinical trial is carried out. A total sample of 70 patients with chronic kidney disease is recruited and divided into a therapeutic exercise group and a control group. The kidney function (creatinine clearance as main outcome) is measured at baseline and 1 month after treatment start.
Capsaicinoids (the active ingredient in hot peppers) have been shown to cause a moderate increase in energy expenditure (50 kcal/day) as well as reductions in appetite, energy intake, and (visceral) adiposity. As such, there is considerable interest in capsaicinoid for weight loss supplements. Owing to the fact that these changes are believed to be driven by catecholamine release and alterations in fat oxidation, there is growing belief that capsaicin may also offer potential ergogenic benefits (performance enhancement) during exercise, similar to the affect of caffeine, which works through similar pathways. Of particular interest are the recent findings that free-fatty acids in the blood are elevated 2-2.5hrs post ingestion, yet changes in typical cardiovascular or sympathetic nervous tone indicators (heart rate, blood pressure) were unaffected, suggesting some of the negative consequences of other stimulants may be avoided. At present, however, more in depth investigations of the effects on endothelial function, vascular autonomic tone and inflammation are lacking. Although there are some indications that capsaicinoid ingestion may alter factors associated exercise performance (such as increased fat oxidation for glucose sparing), to date these studies have primarily used very low exercise intensities wherein these effects are typically unnecessary, and results are not generalizable to the typical race intensities of endurance sport competition. Performance measures have also been a noticeably absent outcome from research to date. Hypotheses: 1), Exercise performance will improve, at a level similar to those demonstrated for caffeine ingestion 2) ratings of perceived exertion will go down with the effect of causing intensity to go up 3) During sustained aerobic activity approaching the aerobic threshold alterations in substrate use will be minimal (but possibly meaningful in regard to performance); alterations at rest will be more pronounced. 4) acute alterations (6o min post single dose) in blood pressure, HRV, arterial stiffness and RMR will mirror the effects observed for more prolonged exposure in phase 1.
