Filter by:Methods: The study population consisted of all adult women living in Sabzevar city (Iran). Using cluster sampling, 365 women were selected as the study sample. Participants completed Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory, Sensitivity to Punishment and Sensitivity to Reward Questionnaire - Revised and Clarified (SPSRQ-RC) as well as Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function (BRIEF). Data analysis was conducted using correlation and regression tests.
The purpose of this research study is to establish if a novel high-speed yoga program which incorporates visual cues can make a positive change in the participant's ability to make decisions and move as measured by several cognitive, balance and functional tests. It has been shown that yoga can improve balance and movement in those diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
In this project, the investigators will extend prior results of parent-reported executive function growth and symptom reduction in children receiving home-based treatment with the Collaborative Problem Solving treatment approach (CPS), with a particular focus on examining children who have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The investigators will examine executive functioning (EF) of children who are receiving CPS, measuring EF with parent-report and objective computer-based tasks, at two timepoints: at the start of treatment and approximately four months later, and will collect symptoms at these plus three additional timepoints: at discharge, 6-months after discharge, and 12-months after discharge.
This study will use technology to deliver effective treatment for cognitive problems associated with TBI to Veterans at home, which may result in improved daily functioning and increased access to health care for the growing population of aging Veterans with history of TBI. The successful completion of this project may also increase older Veterans' ability to participate in research through increased understanding of the effect of in-home research opportunities on recruitment and retention. Additionally, the evidence gathered from this study may be used in future research studying home-based cognitive rehabilitation treatments for Veterans using telehealth technology.
Main objective: to evaluate the executive functioning of the HIV exposed uninfected children (HEU) versus children from the same socio-economic and cultural environment, not infected or affected by HIV. Secondary objective (s): to evaluate Intellectual Quotient, Child development, Behavior, Language and investigate link between executive functioning disorders, exposure to ARVs, HIV and family environment.
Brief Overview: Children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer will experience problems with learning, memory and attention during and after completing their cancer therapy. There are many factors that contribute to this problem, but investigators have recently identified that chemotherapy agents used in treating Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) may disrupt normal brain development. A novel device has been developed that may help correct this disruption. Direct Current Stimulation (DCS) uses a very low level of constant electrical current to stimulate specific parts of the brain. It has been used in patients with stroke to great benefit. Our study at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is designed to see if this technique will benefit survivors of childhood cancer. Specifically, investigators wish to see if stimulating one part of the brain gives a greater benefit than stimulating another part of the brain. Primary Objective Evaluate the feasibility of conducting repeated on-site Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) in children who are long-term survivors of Secondary Objectives - To estimate the potential efficacy for powering a future larger study using tDCS to improve cognitive performance in children by suppressing over connected neural hubs in long-term survivors of childhood ALL. - To compare the performance of anodal stimulation of the frontal lobe to cathodal suppression of the superior temporal lobe on cognitive performance.
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a neuromodulation device that is FDA-approved for use in treating depression and obsessive compulsive disorder. TMS works by applying a safe, electromagnetic field on the scalp, which can either increase or decrease neuronal communication and activity (depending on the mode of stimulation). Although it is only approved for two disorders, there has been substantial research into the potential of TMS to treat a wide range of neuropsychiatric disorders, including substance use disorders (SUDs). This project aims to develop an initial TMS protocol in a sample of healthy controls and to establish the feasibility and efficacy of using repetitive TMS (rTMS) to impact several carefully-selected cognitive, behavioral, and physiologic measures. This pilot project will enable the research team to gather baseline data using this new method and to plan longer-term programmatic studies focusing on populations with SUDs. The overarching aim of this project is to develop an rTMS protocol for use in the human laboratory setting with both healthy controls and individuals with SUDs. The investigators also hope to learn about the impact of high frequency rTMS over the DLPFC on multiple aspects of functioning including: cognitive control, impulsivity, thermal pain sensitivity, motivation, and mood.
Objectives: - First, to determine if patients with a history of AF have acute measurable changes in cognitive functioning while in an episode of AF. - Second, to collect basic insight into what specific physiologic (blood pressure, pulse oximetry, heart rate, temperature) and pharmacologic (antiarrhythmic medications, rate control medications, anticoagulants, antiplatelet medications, etc.) factors minimize the neurological impact on patients while they are in AF. It is hypothesized that when using a tablet-based cognitive testing software - Cambridge Cognition (specifically to assess executive function, learning and working memory: Rapid Visual Information Processing test, Spatial Working Memory/Spatial Span Task tests, One touch Stockings of Cambridge test, Cambridge Gambling Task, Multitasking Test/Intra-Extra Dimensional Set shift tests) - a significant difference will be noted between how the patients perform while in atrial fibrillation compared to the patients' performance while in normal sinus rhythm.
Empirical research shows that deficits in executive/monitoring abilities (inhibition, error detection, problem solving) following acquired brain injury produce serious impact on patient's daily life performance. The authors developed an intervention method aimed at improving "on-line" error detection and correction abilities during performance of naturalistic action. Patients will be asked to complete two significant everyday activities (e.g. making a sandwich and setting the kitchen table for four people) while increasing the level of monitoring requirements as their performance improve. Monitoring requirements increased by presenting new semantically and physically related distractors and increasing the number of conflicting/problem solving situations. The treatment involves a metacognitive contextual intervention program based on providing systematic online/offline-feedback on their own performance, with emphasis on making the patient aware of how to deal with distracting/conflicting situations that were previously failed. The authors predict that errors committed and addressed through the feedback sessions (errors, actions towards distractors, failures to detect/solve conflicting situations) will be reduced on post-intervention performance compared to baseline. The authors also expect behavioral improvements to generalize to trained tasks but adding new distractors/conflicting situations or even to untrained tasks.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of play and competition-based cognitive therapy (PCB-CT) on executive function and occupational routines in children with dyslexia. Method: In this randomized control trail, 64 children with dyslexia (between 7-12 ages) were randomly selected from the 162 clients who applied to the clinic. Children were divided randomly into a treatment group and a control group. Children in the intervention group was given cognitive therapy for 10 weeks, 3 days a week for one hour sessions while no therapy was received to the control group. In order to evaluate the cognition of the children Test of Visual Perceptual Skills-3 (TVPS-3) and Dynamic Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment (DOTCA-Ch), to evaluate executive functions the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function (BRIEF) and to evaluate occupational routine The Executive Functions and Occupational Routines Scale (EFORTS) were used. The evaluations were done at baseline, after treatment and the end of the 3rd month for both groups.
