NCT ID: NCT05947903 Not yet recruiting - Cancer Clinical Trials

Validation of the European Oncology Quality of Life Toolkit

Start date: June 15, 2024
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The improvement or preservation of quality of life (QoL) is one of the three pillars of the European Union (EU) Mission on Cancer, which underpins the needs of patients from cancer diagnosis throughout treatment, survivorship, and advanced terminal stages. Clinical studies and real-world data show that the use of Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) for QoL assessment in routine oncology practice has positive effects on patient wellbeing and healthcare resource utilization. However, full implementation of PROMs is not yet part of standard of care and is not adequately considered in cancer policies and programs. A comprehensive tool incorporating the perspective of patients at different stages of the disease trajectory and widely applicable across Europe is still lacking. The European Oncology Quality of Life Toolkit (EUonQoL-Kit) is a unified patient-centred tool for the assessment of QoL, developed from preferences and priorities of people with past or current cancer experience. The EUonQoL-Kit includes three electronic questionnaires, specifically designed for different disease phases (patients in active treatment, survivors, and patients in palliative care), available in both static and dynamic (Computer Adaptive Testing, CAT) versions and in several European languages. This is a multicentre observational study, with the following aims: - The primary aim is to perform the psychometric validation of the EUonQoL-Kit. - Secondary aims are to assess its acceptability, to validate the static and dynamic versions against each other, and to provide estimates of QoL across European countries. The EUonQoL-Kit will be administered to a sample of patients from 45 European cancer centres. The sample will include patients in active treatment (group A), survivors (group B), and patients in Palliative Care (group C). Each centre will recruit 100 patients (40 from group A, 30 from group B, 30 from group C), for an overall sample size of 4,500 patients (at least 4,000 patients are assumed to be enrolled, due to an expected lower recruitment rate of 10-15%). Three sub-samples of patients (each corresponding to 10% of the total sample for each centre) will fill in an additional questionnaire: - FACT-G (Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy - General) and EQ-5D-5L (5-level European Quality of Life Five Dimension), to test concurrent validity. - Live-CAT version, to validate the static and dynamic versions against each other. - EUonQoL-Kit, at least 1 hour after the first completion, to assess test-retest reliability.

NCT ID: NCT05937061 Completed - Food Allergy Clinical Trials

Influence of Persistent Food Allergy on Nutritional Status of Children With Food Allergy

Start date: May 1, 2019
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The goal of this single center retrospective cohort study with observational longitudinal follow up is to compare food - allergic children (egg, milk and peanut allergy) with children in control group (children without any food allergy). The main question[s] it aims to answer are: - If children with food allergy groups will have lower food intake od micronutrients? - If growth in children with food allergy is worse as in control group? - If they are more malnourished and in the food allergies group is more stunting than in the control group? - If children with milk allergy have lower intake of calcium in their diet and lower mineral bone density? Participants will be asked to do 3 day food diary and to have blood analysed (hemograme, complete blood count, serum iron status, serum protein). If there is a comparison group: Researchers will compare milk, egg and peanut allergy group to the control group (peers without food allergy) to see if the food allergy affects growth, macronutrient, micronutrient intake.

NCT ID: NCT05927337 Recruiting - Obesity Clinical Trials

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Managing Obesity in People With Chronic Kidney Disease

Start date: May 1, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

In the study Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Managing Obesity in People with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) the investigators will test whether CBT programme is effective for weight loss and weight maintenance after the treatment programme in patients with obesity, chronic kidney disease and proteinuria. The investigators will test whether subjects randomised to the intervention group and receiving cognitive behavioural therapy can achieve greater weight loss and proteinuria reduction in chronic kidney disease than subjects randomised to the control group and not receiving cognitive behavioural therapy. Both groups of subjects will be counselled by a dietician to improve their diet and reduce excess weight and to kinesiologist for advice on physical activity.

The aim of the proposed clinical trial is to determine the efficacy, feasibility and safety of electrochemotherapy in the treatment of vulvar cancer.

NCT ID: NCT05911282 Completed - Clinical trials for Ethanol Intoxication

N-acetylcysteine Reduces Acetaldehyde Levels in Binge Alcohol Drinking

Start date: June 1, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Alcohol hangover (veisalgia) is a fairly common phenomenon. The pathogenesis of veisalgia is not understood and treatment has not yet been established. Occasionally, students take N-acetylcysteine (NAC) before binge drinking to alleviate hangover. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of NAC on serum levels of electrolytes, enzymes, acetaldehyde, oxidative stress biomarkers and symptoms of veisalgia in binge drinking. In this randomised double-blind placebo-controlled study, healthy students were randomly assigned into two groups, one receiving NAC and the other placebo. Blood samples were taken before drinking, 30 minutes after 1.5-hour-long drinking and in the subsequent morning. Serum levels of electrolytes, urea, enzymes, ethanol, acetaldehyde, 8-Hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) and N-epsilon-hexanoyl-lysine were measured. The participants completed the Acute Hangover Severity Scale (AHSS) based on symptoms.

NCT ID: NCT05907161 Recruiting - Periodontitis Clinical Trials

Low Laser Therapy and Hyaluronic Acid as an Adjunct to Non-surgical Periodontal Therapy

Start date: June 9, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Periodontal disease is an oral disease characterized by microbially associated, host-mediated inflammation of the periodontium. In the treatment of periodontal disease, conventional periodontal therapy includes both surgical and non-surgical approaches. Non-surgical therapy (i.e. scaling and root planing - SRP) remains an essential part of periodontal therapy. Here, diseased root surface debridement utilizing different hand and ultrasonic instrumentation is performed to facilitate periodontal re-attachment and to reduce the bacterial mass in the periodontal pocket. In the last decade, the use of lasers (light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation) has occupied part of the dialogue within periodontology due to several proposed advantages. In the arena of periodontology, laser use, as an adjunct to non-surgical therapy, was demonstrated to enhance periodontal healing; however, it is still the matter of debate. Among laser applications, low-level laser therapy is recommended for its pain-reducing, woundhealing and anti-inflammatory effects. Hyaluronic acid is a non-sulfated glycosaminoglycan and a major component of the extracellular matrix. It is found in various body fluids, such as gingival crevicular fluid, saliva, serum and synovial fluid. Anti-inflammatory, anti-edematous and anti-bacterial activities of hyaluronic acid have been investigated in dentistry, specially in periodontology.
