This clinical study aims to assess the efficacy of TOTUM-63, a mix of 5 plant extracts, consumed at the daily regimen of three times per day on glucose and lipid homeostasis in dysglycemic subjects. The hypothesis is that TOTUM-63, consumed 3 times per day, is superior to placebo for decrease of fasting plasma glucose (FPG) concentration after 24 weeks of consumption.

Endoscopic Interventions in Patients With COVID-19

This is a combined study including a descriptive part about the preparations for COVID-19 and the impact of COVID-19 on the daily routine of the work in an Interdisciplinary Endoscopic Unit (IEU), and a point-prevalence analysis for possible positive SARS-CoV-2 carriers among the staff of the IEU, and finally a prospective analysis of SARS-CoV-2 positive patients who required endoscopic intervention. Results are presented in the captures: 1. SARS-CoV-2-pandemic related restructuring of the processes in the IEU, 2. SARS-CoV-2-pandemic related impact on the staff of the IEU, and 3. Analysis of endoscopic interventions in patients with confirmed or suspected SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Effects of COVID-19 Lockdown in Exercising Early Postmenopausal Women

While "conditioning" by exercise training has been widely evaluated, the available literature on "passive deconditioning" (i.e. forced deconditioning) is predominately limited to studies with or with almost complete mechanical and/or metabolic immobilization/sedation of the respective functional system (e.g. paralysis, bedriddenness). Vice versa, the effects of moderately long interruptions of dedicated types of exercise while maintaining everyday activity are rarely addressed. However, this topic is of high relevance, e.g. considering that breaks of health-related exercise programs due to increased family/occupational stress, vacation or temporary orthopedic limitation are rather frequent in everyday life. In the present project we aimed to determine the effects of 3 months of physical deconditioning due to COVID-19 induced lockdown after 13 month of high intensity endurance and resistance exercise in early postmenopausal women on parameters related to health and physical fitness.

Improving Insulin Sensitivity by Non-invasive Brain Stimulation

Efforts in curing and preventing obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D) have been elusive thus far. One reason for that is the lack of understanding of the role of the brain in the development and treatment of the disease. In recent studies, the hypothalamus was identified as part of a brain network including higher cognitive regions that is particularly vulnerable to insulin resistance. Furthermore, the central insulin response in this network predicted food craving and hunger. In this project, transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is implemented as a tool to stimulate brain networks. The investigators hypothesize that stimulating the hypothalamus-cognitive network will enhance insulin sensitivity and reduce food intake, food craving and hunger. Furthermore, the project will provide the unique opportunity to investigate novel mechanisms of insulin resistance in participants who have been extensively metabolically characterized.

A Study to Test How Taking BI 1015550 for 12 Weeks Affects Lung Function in People With Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF)

This study is open to adults with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) who are at least 40 years old. People taking standard medicines for IPF, including antifibrotic medicines, can continue taking them throughout the study. The purpose of the study is to find out whether a medicine called BI 1015550 can slow down the worsening of lung function. Participants are in the study for about 4 months. During this time, they visit the study site about 7 times. At the beginning, they visit the study site every 2 weeks. After 1 month of treatment, they visit the study site every 4 weeks. The participants are put into 2 groups by chance. 1 group gets BI 1015550. The other group gets placebo. Placebo tablets look like BI 1015550 tablets but contain no medicine. The participants take BI 1015550 or placebo tablets twice a day. The participants have lung function tests at study visits. The results of the lung function tests are compared between the BI 1015550 group and the placebo group. The doctors also regularly check the general health of the participants.
