Effectiveness of a Patient-oriented Discharge Summary

The discharge preparation is a difficult time to provide teaching, as older patients and their caregivers are often overwhelmed by a substantial amount of information and stressed about leaving hospital. As a result, 40-80% of patients forget or remember incorrectly the information discussed during hospitalisation, resulting in unmet needs, poor adherence to postdischarge care and increased use of health care services in the postdischarge period. The Patient-Oriented Discharge Summary (PODS) is a simple, one-page tool to be completed with key information, such as the reason for hospitalisation, warning signs to look out for, contact information, treatment plan and upcoming medical appointments. The PODS study will assess the effectiveness of the PODS on the quality of the transition between hospital and patients' home and problems and unmet needs after discharge.

This project is to develop a national registry for CP patients. Patients admitted to this registry will be examined and documented with PROs, physician-based assessments, blood tests, 3D photodocumentation and, if indicated, by skin biopsies, neurophysiological testing and radiological imaging at defined timepoints. The data collection will allow deepened insights into patient needs, different mechanisms and courses of pruritic conditions, treatment outcomes and treatment-related safety issues. In addition, the collection of clinical, biological and image-based data may be used for retrospective analyses.

Study on Regulated Cannabis Sales in Pharmacies

Though regulated cannabis sales are increasing, little is known about the individual health effects of cannabis regulation. Data from countries with a regulated market can be used to test the effect of regulation on the price of cannabis in the illicit market, and to explore its effect on social and health outcomes at the societal level, but strength of evidence for individual health and social outcomes is more limited because it must be aggregated on a state or country level. Data on individual and social outcomes should include baseline measurements before and outcome measurements after regulations changed. In this context, randomized-controlled trials are the least biased source of data on the effects of interventions. The SCRIPT study aims to investigate the individual health and social impact on recreational cannabis users who are allowed to purchase authorized, regulated cannabis from Swiss pharmacies compared to users who buy cannabis on the illicit market. Participants are randomly allocated in one of the two groups and followed-up for 6 months. After 6 months, all participants are allowed to participate in the intervention and the cohort is followed up for another 18 months. The intervention includes various offers: Participants can choose between cannabis sorts and delivery methods, and they are encouraged to shift from smoking cannabis to vaping cannabis-containing e-liquids, vaporizing cannabis blossoms or using oral cannabis. Vaping / vaporizing electronic devices are also recommended. At the same time, pharmacists offer opportunistic smoking cessation and problematic cannabis, alcohol use and further drug use counseling that conforms to motivational interviewing principles. The SCRIPT study adheres to rigorous quality criteria for the production and storage of regulated cannabis products. Only vaping / vaporizing electronic devices which are validated to reduce exposure to toxicants compared to cannabis smoking are recommended.

The SUPRAMAX Study: Supramaximal Resection Versus Maximal Resection for High-Grade Glioma Patients (ENCRAM 2201)

A greater extent of resection of the contrast-enhancing (CE) tumor part has been associated with improved outcomes in high-grade glioma patients. Recent results suggest that resection of the non-contrast-enhancing (NCE) part might yield even better survival outcomes (supramaximal resection, SMR). Therefore, this study evaluates the efficacy and safety of SMR with and without mapping techniques in HGG patients in terms of survival, functional, neurological, cognitive, and quality of life outcomes. Furthermore, it evaluates which patients benefit the most from SMR, and how they could be identified preoperatively. This study is an international, multicenter, prospective, 2-arm cohort study of observational nature. Consecutive HGG patients will be operated with supramaximal resection or maximal resection at a 1:3 ratio. Primary endpoints are: 1) overall survival and 2) proportion of patients with NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale) deterioration at 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months postoperatively. Secondary endpoints are 1) residual CE and NCE tumor volume on postoperative T1-contrast and FLAIR MRI scans 2) progression-free survival; 3) onco-functional outcome, and 4) quality of life at 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months postoperatively. The study will be carried out by the centers affiliated with the European and North American Consortium and Registry for Intraoperative Mapping (ENCRAM).

the goal of this clinical trial is to compare the measurement of cardiac output, systolic ejection volume and vascular filling in pregnant women with the new non-invasive measurement techniques of the Index of contractility monitor (ICON) and the Ultra Sonic Cardiac Output Monitor (USCOM) in pregnant women compared to trans-thoracic ultrasound as the gold standard of non-invasive techniques The Secondary objective is to evaluate patient comfort between the 3 techniques, examination time and examiner satisfaction. The main question it aim to answer is the absence or a low difference in cardiac output measurement ( less than 30 %) between the non invasive measurement methods ( USCOM/ICON) and the trans thoracic cardiac echography in pregnant women in the first and third trimester.

Unfortunately, most patients are already at a very advanced stage when they are diagnosed with lung cancer, i.e. the cancer has already spread outside the lungs forming metastases. The current standard of care therapy at this advanced stage of lung cancer includes systemic anti-cancer therapy such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy to boost the body's immune response, or targeted therapy that directly hinders tumor growth. In this study, the aim is to find out whether it is better if, after a good response to the standard therapy, the remains of main tumor and the metastases are additionally treated by surgery and/or radiation.
