Compression Garments in the Community With POTS

Compression Garments are a commonly prescribed treatment in Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). The effectiveness of a proof-of-concept compression garment has been demonstrated in an acute laboratory setting. It is not known if commercially available compression garments that participants wear in their every day lives are effective at improving heart rate and reducing symptoms in POTS. This trial will evaluate the use of commercially available waist-high and abdominal compression garments in adults diagnosed with POTS in a community setting.

Safety, Tolerability, and Efficacy of AXA1125 in NASH With Fibrosis

This study will compare the effects of AXA1125, an orally active mixture of amino acids, compared to placebo, on improving fat and inflammation (steatohepatitis) as well as fibrosis in subjects with non alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). as well as the safety and tolerability of AXA1125. Subjects will take one of two different doses of AXA1125 or a placebo twice daily, and a liver biopsy will be done at the beginning and end of the 48-week study.

It will also test how safe the drug is for participants. Participants will have cancer that has spread in the body near where it started (locally advanced) and cannot be removed (unresectable) or has spread through the body (metastatic). It will also study what side effects happen when participants get the drug. A side effect is anything a drug does to your body besides treating the disease.

Somatotopy in Parkinson's Disease

This study aims to assess changes in connections within the brain in Parkinson's disease (PD). We will invite up to 10 people with PD to participate in this study and complete several brain scans using PET (Positron Emission Tomography) and fMRI (functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging) on the Hybrid PET/MRI scanner. We will also invite 10 participants without PD to complete the same scans for comparison. "Somatotopy" refers to how areas of the brain are organized according to the body part they affect. The striatum is the brain region that coordinates complex thinking and movement. Plasticity refers to changes in connections within the brain, which can happen to make up for changes that are related to PD. In this study we will use PET and fMRI imaging together to investigate changes in the striatum in people affected by Parkinson's disease. The hybrid PET/MR scanner allows us to perform simultaneous PET and MRI measurements to investigate this.

TRIple Negative Breast Cancer Markers In Liquid Biopsies Using Artificial Intelligence

Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is the most aggressive of breast cancers and it is usually treated with chemotherapy even before surgery. In many cases, the chemotherapy completely "melts" the tumor and these patients do well. When the tumor is not eliminated by the chemotherapy, the patient receive more chemotherapy after surgery to decrease the chances of it coming back. Yet many of these patients don't need that extra chemotherapy and will do well in any case. One of the most exciting recent developments in cancer is the use of "liquid biopsies". It turns out that the tumor's DNA, RNA and proteins can be detected in small vesicles found in the patient's blood. Thanks to advances in Artificial Intelligence, there is now informatics tools to integrate many types of molecular information. Our industrial partner, MIMs, will apply novel informatics tools to generate a test using all the molecular information obtained from blood vesicles and tissue that will be able to find out early if tumor has spread outside of the breast, and how much tumor is left after surgery. The goal is hope to develop a multi-dimensional test for TNBC patients that can be used to decide how much treatment they need and if treatment given after surgery is working.

The Thoracic Peri-Operative Integrative Surgical Care Evaluation Trial - Stage II

Despite enormous advances in thoracic surgery and oncology, two critical issues concern patients undergoing curative-intent surgery for lung, gastric and esophageal cancer: first, a majority (~60%) of patients experience minor and major adverse events occurring during and in the days following surgery; second, patients worry about the significant risk of cancer recurrence and mortality months to years after surgery. These issues, combined with side effects of chemotherapy and radiation, have detrimental effects on health-related quality of life (HRQoL). On a deeper level, there is the problem of an ongoing failure to integrate and evaluate the best of what complementary medicine has to offer surgical oncology care. Too many clinical trials focus on single agent therapies, rather than broad multi-faceted individualized and integrative care interventions that are used in real world settings. The Thoracic POISE project has the overarching goal of improving care for thoracic cancer patients by impacting HRQoL, reducing surgical adverse events, prolonging overall survival and pioneering integrative care delivery.
