NCT ID: NCT05304585 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma

Chemotherapy for the Treatment of Patients With Newly Diagnosed Very Low-Risk and Low Risk Fusion Negative Rhabdomyosarcoma

Start date: August 4, 2022
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Rhabdomyosarcoma is a type of cancer that occurs in the soft tissues in the body. This phase III trial aims to maintain excellent outcomes in patients with very low risk rhabdomyosarcoma (VLR-RMS) while decreasing the burden of therapy using treatment with 24 weeks of vincristine and dactinomycin (VA) and examines the use of centralized molecular risk stratification in the treatment of rhabdomyosarcoma. Another aim of the study it to find out how well patients with low risk rhabdomyosarcoma (LR-RMS) respond to standard chemotherapy when patients with VLR-RMS and patients who have rhabdomyosarcoma with DNA mutations get separate treatment. Finally, this study examines the effect of therapy intensification in patients who have RMS cancer with DNA mutations to see if their outcomes can be improved.

NCT ID: NCT05303493 Recruiting - NSCLC Stage IV Clinical Trials

Camu-Camu Prebiotic and Immune Checkpoint Inhibition in Patients With Non-small Cell Lung Cancer and Melanoma

Start date: June 29, 2022
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

Modulating the gut microbiome to improve response to immune-checkpoint inhibitors is an active area of study. Prebiotic substances (compounds which positively shift the gut microbiome) are a reliable and safe method of gut microbiome modulation. Data suggest that the berry Camu Camu (CC), also known as Myrciaria dubia has prebiotic potential to enrich Akkermansia muciniphila, a bacterium shown to alleviate metabolic disorders and improve ICI efficacy in preclinical models. Our primary objective is to assess the safety and tolerability of CC prebiotic in patients with advanced NSCLC and melanoma in combination with standard-of-care ICI.

NCT ID: NCT05302245 Recruiting - Caregivers Clinical Trials

A Longitudinal Examination of Unpaid Caregivers of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Survivors in Nova Scotia

CaringForwrd
Start date: October 30, 2020
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The purpose of the present study is to follow unpaid caregivers of ABI survivors in Nova Scotia over time to learn more about their experiences. The study is funded by the Government of Nova Scotia (i.e. Department of Health and Wellness). The present longitudinal cohort study will help increase knowledge about ABI caregivers at a provincial level. Findings will also be used in developing future interventions to help caregivers in this population. The goals of the research study are: 1. To understand the natural experiences of unpaid caregivers over time. More specifically, the investigators hope to learn about the experiences of unpaid caregivers of acquired brain injury survivors in Nova Scotia. 2. To examine the connection between study demographic variables (e.g. the amount of time spent caregiving in hours per week), and psychological outcome variables (e.g. caregiver burden). 3. To learn about the relationship between psychological outcome variables (e.g. psychological distress and savouring). 4. To provide a platform for future studies using the Trials within Cohort (TwiC) study design.

NCT ID: NCT05300737 Recruiting - Ischemic Stroke Clinical Trials

Symptomatic Carotid Outcomes Registry

SCORE
Start date: August 1, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

The purpose of this study is to build upon trials done over 30 years ago, which did not include statins, new antiplatelet agents, and newer antihypertensive medications. Since the landmark trials (NASCET, ECST), there have been new developments in medical stroke prevention, which creates a gap in knowledge. The aim of this study is to evaluate that clinical care with Intensive Medical Therapy (IMT) alone, the one year stroke rate in patients with symptomatic carotid stenosis and low risk clinical features will be <5%.

NCT ID: NCT05300711 Recruiting - Colorectal Surgery Clinical Trials

Preventing Ovarian Cancer Through Oportunistic Salpingectomy at the Time of Colorectal Surgery

Start date: June 20, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study aims to evaluate the feasibility, safety and cost-effectiveness of opportunistic salpingectomy (OS-the removal of the fallopian tubes) at the time of colorectal surgery to prevent ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer is the fifth cause of cancer-related mortality in females in Canada. OS can prevent the most common and lethal type of ovarian cancer, high grade serous carcinoma (HGSC). OS during gynecologic surgery (hysterectomy or instead of tubal ligation) is safe and effective. However, rates of hysterectomies and tubal sterilization are decreasing. This research team aims to extend the prevention of ovarian cancer by expanding to offer OS during other surgeries in the pelvis where fallopian tubes are accessible, beginning with colorectal surgery. This study will examine: 1) the feasibility of OS at the time of colorectal surgery; 2) the safety of OS at the time of colorectal surgery; 3) the cost-effectiveness of OS at the time of colorectal surgery. The hypothesis is that OS will be well accepted by individuals with fallopian tubes undergoing colorectal surgery, and that the vast majority (around 90 percent) of attempts to remove both fallopian tubes will be successful. It is expected that there will be 10-20 minutes additional operating room time for completing OS and that there will be no increased risk of complications when OS is included in a colorectal surgery. The researchers also hypothesize that OS at the time of colorectal surgery will be cost-effective because of the reduced number of ovarian cancer cases and associated treatment costs.

NCT ID: NCT05300503 Recruiting - Hypertension Clinical Trials

Evaluating the Use of a Remote Telehome Monitoring Hypertension Program for Patients Receiving Virtual Care

HTMTHM
Start date: August 4, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

High blood pressure or hypertension (HTN) is very common and can lead to serious health issues and even death. Medications and lifestyle changes can be used to treat HTN. During the Coronavirus Disease-19 (COVID-19) pandemic, a lot of the care provided by doctors has become virtual, meaning that patients can be assessed by a doctor over the phone or video call without needing to go to a clinic or hospital. Although this is convenient, a lot of people cannot get their blood pressure (BP) checked in a reliable way when they are at home. As a result, it is possible that their BPs are too high and that they are not getting the right medications or the right doses of medications to treat this. The Investigators are performing this study to see how patients are managing to check their BP's at home, during this time when a lot of the care is virtual. The Investigative team understands that many patients diagnosed with HTN don't have a home BP cuff, or might not know how to properly use it, or might not share the results with their doctors. In people who have high BP, we want to see if a special BP cuff and special monitoring program can help to get their BP's under better control, and to prevent negative effects related to HTN.
