Filter by:A mixed-methods sequential explanatory design study. The first quantitative phase will be a multi-language survey that includes questions related to pain status, patient beliefs, pain interference/social support, and perspective on healthcare utilization. Latent class analysis (LCA) will be used to generate experience-based subgroups in CMP. The second qualitative phase will use focus group will elucidate, confirm, and more richly describe the findings from the first phase.
This will be a multistate, multicenter clinical study to determine the efficacy and safety of medical cannabis for a wide variety of chronic medical conditions.
11-20% of patients undergoing abdominal surgery develop chronic abdominal pain. Adhesions are a common cause of chronic pain following surgery. Adhesions develop after up to 90% of laparotomies and 70% of laparoscopic surgeries. Obviously, not all adhesions cause pain. It is still poorly understood why adhesions cause pain in some patients, while other patients with adhesions experience no pain. In this study we explore possible mechanism through which adhesions might cause pain. For this purpose we will assess expression of molecular mediators (such as TRPV-1, SP, and the neurokinin receptor), histological characteristics, and fecal microbioma that might be associated with pain.Expression of these factor will be compared to sample from 30 patients with chronic pain attributed to adhesions, and 30 patients undergoing a reoperation with adhsiolysis for reasons unrelated to pain.
Endometriosis is dependent on angiogenesis (the sprouting of new blood vessels) for its growth and maintenance, but the side effects of currently approved angiogenesis inhibitors make these agents inappropriate for use in reproductive-age patients. This obstacle will be overcome by performing a randomized, double blind clinical trial aimed at repurposing an existing drug, cabergoline, as a safe, alternative angiogenesis inhibitor for adolescents and young women with endometriosis. This trial proposes a novel, non-hormonal, non-surgical therapeutic approach aimed at alleviating the pain and suffering associated with this common chronic disease that currently has limited treatment options.
This Registry study will prospectively evaluate the long-term effectiveness, safety, and tolerability of the StimRouter Neuromodulation System, along with evaluating the technical performance of StimRouter, surgical outcomes, health-related quality of life, concomitant medical use, and subject's impression of improvement.
