Filter by:This study aims to pilot test a culturally tailored behavioral intervention called "WECARE" to enhance caregiving mastery and improve psychosocial wellbeing of Chinese American family caregivers of persons with Alzheimer's Disease and related dementia.
The purpose of this study is to determine the feasibility and acceptability of delivering the KINDER intervention to family caregivers to persons living with dementia. Further, the investigators will examine the preliminary efficacy of the KINDER intervention at improving caregiver resourcefulness, relationship quality, and quality of care, including reduction of potential verbal-type elder mistreatment. During this study, participants will be asked to complete two (2) 30- to 45-minute surveys asking about their demographic information, caregiving situations, and relationship with the care recipient. The first survey will be sent within two weeks of beginning the KINDER intervention, the second will be sent within one week after participants complete the KINDER intervention so we can compare outcomes.
Family caregivers for persons with dementia report high levels of depression, stress, and burden. Caregivers' limited time, transportation constraints, and unpredictable schedules make on-line, self-guided interventions more accessible and scalable. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an established and effective in-person therapy, well-suited to the dementia care giving context where caregivers cannot minimize stress exposure, and report difficult thoughts and emotions. ACT for Caregivers is an on-line self-guided ACT intervention that showed effectiveness in a Stage I pilot (n=52) with participants reporting decreased depressive symptoms, stressful reactions to caring, and caregiver burden, and increased quality of life and positive aspects of caring (all p <.05). Learning from the pilot, the current Stage III intervention will shorten the program from 10 sessions to 6 sessions. The investigators introduce a wait list randomized control trial (RCT) design with fully longitudinal mixed methods to evaluate ACT for Caregivers. Data will be collected at pretest, post-test, and 6-weeks follow-up. Study aims are: 1) to evaluate ACT for Caregivers in a larger sample using an RCT, 2) to understand user experiences and the process of change by collecting short response data from all participants at all time points and interviewing a subset of participants in-depth at two time points, 3) to integrate quantitative and qualitative findings and examine areas of convergence and divergence. This project offers a promising prevention and intervention program to support family caregivers that is scalable, at low cost and with high impact.
• Brief Summary: In order to benefit from the opportunity of education anytime and anywhere with distance education, individuals need to use mobile devices such as mobile phones, tablets, PCs, which provide the opportunity to access educational content independent of time and place. For these reasons, new searches for the delivery of health services are on the agenda and mobile health applications are seen as a solution to most problems faced by the health system and hospitals. Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) is a nutritional method that was first described by Gauder et al. in 1980 and is used in patients with impaired oral intake and intact gastrointestinal tract for various reasons. Caregivers play an important role in the home care process of patients undergoing PEG. Caregivers may encounter social, physical and psychological problems while applying their care. In line with all these reasons, the training to be given to the patient or his/her relative/person who will perform the PEG implantation is very important. Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of mobile application use in training given to caregivers of patients with PEG on the competence, satisfaction and care burden of caregivers.
The WELL program is a multi-strategy early childhood education (ECE) center-based intervention focused on ensuring that formal ECE providers prioritize their own self-care and well-being and have access to resources and supports that improve their skills to have stable and responsive relationships with young children in their care. The overarching goals of this proposed project include: - To utilize Head Start-University partnerships to investigate constructs within the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Worker Wellbeing framework (e.g., Workplace Physical Environment and Safety Climate, Workplace Policies and Culture) among Head Start staff (n=360 Head Start staff) that are most associated with overall well-being. - To adapt and refine the WELL program to target specific constructs that are most significantly related to overall well-being among the ECE workforce identified in Aim 1 and then to test the effectiveness of WELL (n=36 Head Start centers; n=360 Head Start staff). - To collect data to inform the implementation and dissemination of the WELL project research findings and products and initiate translation activities to achieve large-scale adoption.
The purpose of this study is to determine how feasible it is to deliver an online course to reduce out-of-pocket costs of caregiving and reduce financial stress among Latino family caregivers to a family member living with dementia. The investigators hope that that the results of this study will help to reduce high these out-of-pocket costs and improve financial wellbeing for Latino family caregivers. Caregivers will be asked to to participate in 3 online surveys, in addition to participating in 5, 1.5 hour group-based Zoom learning sessions.
The measures to control the transmissibility of the Covid-19 pandemic have changed the daily routines of the population, increasing sedentary lifestyles, decreasing outdoor physical activity and limiting contact with neighbors, family and friends. This could be having negative consequences for the health of vulnerable people. The investigators want to know how this situation has affected the health of people aged 75 years or older and their caregivers and how the circumstances experienced may mark new care needs. To this end, will be analyzed clinical data, follow up people who have become ill with COVID-19 and those who have not, and interview groups of caregivers and patients to hear about the personal impact of the pandemic on them. This will allow us to explore what changes are needed in health care to achieve an improvement in the health and quality of life of this population. CUIDAMOS+75 seeks the commitment of the population and of the different people in charge of the health services from the very beginning.
The study uses the Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation and Maintenance (RE-AIM) framework to assess the Carer Matters programme for dementia caregivers in Singapore. A parallel mixed-methods study design is applied to assess the programme's feasibility and effectiveness.
