Filter by:Background: Terminally ill patients often experience significant psychosocial distress having depressed mood, death anxiety, pain, and an overall poor quality of life. Recent evidence from pilot studies suggests that serotonergic hallucinogens including lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and psilocybin produce significant and sustained reductions of depressive symptoms and anxiety, along with increases in quality of life, and life meaning in patients suffering from life-threatening diseases. Additionally, serotonergic hallucinogens may produce antinociceptive effects. Objective and Design: The study aims to evaluate effects of LSD on psychosocial distress in 60 patients suffering from an end-stage fatal disease with a life expectancy ≥12wks and ≤2yrs in an active placebo-controlled double-blind parallel study. Patients will be allocated in a 2:1 ratio to one of the two intervention arms receiving either two moderate to high doses of LSD (100 µg and 100 µg or 100 µg and 200 µg) as intervention and two low doses of LSD (25 µg and 25 µg) as active-placebo control.
The goal of this re-measured quasi-experimental study is to evaluate the effect of Group Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT-G) intervention given to caregiver family members of people with schizophrenia on caregiver burden, perception of social support and stigma, adherence to treatment in people with schizophrenia they care for, and emotional expression in both caregivers and people with schizophrenia they care for. The main hypotheses it aims to test are: 1. IPT-G intervention will reduce the caregiver burden of caregivers of individuals with schizophrenia. 2. IPT-G intervention will increase the perceived social support levels of caregivers of individuals with schizophrenia. 3. IPT-G intervention will reduce the level of stigma of caregivers of individuals with schizophrenia. 4. IPT-G intervention will reduce the level of emotional expression of caregivers of individuals with schizophrenia. 5. IPT-G intervention applied to caregivers will increase the level of adherence to treatment of individuals with schizophrenia they care for. 6. IPT-G intervention applied to caregivers will reduce the emotional expression levels of individuals with schizophrenia they care for.
The death of a spouse is considered one of the most stressful and impactful life events and is associated with increased morbidity and premature mortality. Early identification of individuals who are most at risk for poor health outcomes following bereavement is an important aim of precision medicine and disease prevention initiatives. A better understanding of caregiver burden and bereavement-related distress and its implication for health is a clinically-relevant step toward the development of treatments that improve health outcomes in bereaved spouses. This study aims to map profiles of individual differences in short- and long-term adjustment to loss, according to psychological (e.g., depression, stress, grief severity) and biological markers (e.g., inflammation, cortisol) over time.
The purpose of this study is to examine relationships between contextual stressors and stress moderators, depression symptom experience, resilience, frailty, and quality of life among older sexual gender minorities cancer survivors and their care partners.
The purpose of the Aim 3 study is to conduct a pilot randomized controlled trial to assess feasibility and preliminary effects of the TPA4You intervention.
Learning Skills Together (LST) is a 6-week psychoeducational intervention focused on complex care (nursing) tasks completed by family caregivers to persons living with Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias. This study aims to test the efficacy of LST at reducing caregiver depression and negative appraisal of behavioral symptoms of dementia by building caregiver self-efficacy. To do this, eligible participants will be randomized into an intervention group (LST) or a control group condition focused on healthy living for family caregivers. Participants will be asked to complete surveys before and after participating in the intervention or the control condition to determine whether change in hypothesized outcomes can be attributed to the intervention condition.
In this study, musculoskeletal-related pain, posture, spine function, the condition of the low back and neck regions, musculoskeletal system disorders, fatigue, and quality of life will be examined in caregivers of rehabilitation patients.
The goal of this clinical trial is to test the effectiveness of an adapted mindfulness and compassion-based intervention (IBAP) in reducing parental burnout in Chilean mothers who telework while living with children under 18 years old. The main questions it aims to answer are: - Can the intervention reduce symptoms of parental burnout in the short term (3 months) and medium-term (6 and 9 months) compared to the control group? - Can the intervention improve work engagement in the intervention group compared to the control group? Participants will be randomly assigned to either the intervention group or the active control group. The intervention group will receive the IBAP program while the active control group will receive a relaxation audio guide. Both group will receive parental burnout educational material, invitation to a Whatsapp group and a weekly email reminders. Parental Burnout (PBA) will be measured at baseline, 3, 6, and 9 months, and work engagement will be measured at the same time points. Researchers will compare the intervention group to the active control group to see if the IBM program is more effective in reducing parental burnout and improving work engagement,
The constellation of long-term psychological, physical, and cognitive impairments arising after a critical illness among family members of ICU survivors has been labeled as "Post Intensive Care Syndrome - Family" (PICS-F). Despite PICS-F awareness, the long-term issues faced by ICU family members remain poorly understood with several gaps in knowledge remaining such as the role of protective psychosocial factors, caregiver burden, or family satisfaction in the development of the syndrome. This single-center, longitudinal exploratory study, aims to determine the incidence of each PICS-F impairment (psychological, physical, and cognitive) and to identify factors (during ICU stay and after hospital discharge) associated with the development or prevention of the PICS-F impairments among family members of ICU survivors of a public hospital in Chile.
In this randomized behavioral intervention, head and neck cancer (HNC) survivors and their caregivers (N=176 HNC survivor-caregiver dyads) will be randomized to either Survivorship Needs Assessment Planning (SNAP) or Usual Care (UC) groups to examine the effects of SNAP on outcomes. SNAP includes two sessions with a needs assessment and tailored care plan and a supportive mobile app after completion of radiation to promote uptake of recommended medical and supportive care. The study aims to evaluate the effects of SNAP on symptom severity in patients and caregiver burden in caregivers. Secondary outcomes include psychological distress (anxiety and depression), healthcare utilization (receipt of recommended care) and unmet needs and self-efficacy in HNC survivor-caregiver dyads. Participants will complete surveys at baseline, 6 months, and 9 months post randomization with validated PROMs, and receive intervention modules at the end of radiation and month 3. Participants in the SNAP group will also receive mobile app support.
